of "Eyes of the Forest," which openstwo-day run at the Lomita theatre
Tuesday, June 3, Tom Mix, the star of the picture, was walking around with one of the finest "shiners" or black eyes, If you like that has been seen in Hollywood in ages. The man ner in which he acquired the optical decoration handed even Tom a laugh.
It was during a free-for-all fight that was staged in "Eyes of the For est." Just before the fray Mix ad dressed his adversaries, who included several "extras." What he said was this:
"I will give ten dollars to any man who blacks my eye. I want to make this fight a real thing. Here's your hance to wade in and get some extra
money."Tom got what he was looking for,
and a mild-mannered young man col lected the ten-spot.
"That young fellow is mighty quick," Tom admitted; "so quick I didn't see lim coming. And he's a little fellow, too."
Friday night Tom went to see the weekly bouts at a Los Angeles club. When the fighters in the final bout stepped Into' the ring Mix looked, rubbed his eyes and looked again.
"No wonder I got a black eye," he mused, feeling the Injured optic. "That fellow in the green tights Is the guy
ho hit me." It was Jack Joseph, well known in the middle west as a contender for the lightweight title.
