The TAP DC Jazz Festival is a one-week intensive experience for middle school and high school students who are dedicated and passionate about music performance. In collaboration with the TAP DC Jazz Festival and local jazz artists, the program was created to give young musicians from all genres a taste of practicing and performing alongside jazz professionals. Daily combo and private
sessions help refine technique, performance etiquette and broaden participants’ understanding of various jazz styles. Instruments for the National Jazz Camp include: Saxophones, Violin/Viola, Clari-
net, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Double Bass, Electric Bass, Drums and Steel Pan. The camp will begin with placement of students into ensembles with students. Students should be prepared to play
C Jam Blues by Duke Ellington. Advanced students may choose a jazz standard from: Blue Bossa, Autumn Leaves, Stella by Starlight and Now’s The Time. Students will be asked to play 1 major and/or 1 minor scale (2 octaves).
DC Jazz Festival’s Roberta Flack Education Program support for the Jazz Camp is made possible, in part, by the NEA Foundation, CrossCurrents Foundation, and the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. The Roberta Flack Music Education Program is a project of the DC Jazz Festival, a 501c3 non-profit service organization. © 2014 DC Jazz Festival. All rights reserved.

BGCGW’s Teen Arts Programis a positive labor of love, bringing young people together to
work on their dreams. The tremendous outreach they receive from amazing performance and visual artists who dedicate their time to this project, in some cases year after year, is
an experience to be treasured. And when we add the secret STEM ingredient into the mix (RUKA the Musical is about insects) we not only have fun, we have Summer Brain Gain!
As President & CEO I speak for our staff and Board Members when I say we are delighted to bring
TAP to life once again in summer, 2014.
