Avid Boyd Street Reader L writes:

Its sophomore year o college and it being the rst time in my lie with complete reedom, Im ready to party. I invited our

riends, two girls and t wo guys, over or the weekend. We ound a party with a ree Lone Star keg and we got to drinking. The rest

o the night is a blur due to drinking way too much beer way too ast. The strangest memory I had rom that night was ater we

returned to my apartment or the evening. My riend, who had previously passed out in my room, randomly stood up and star ted

spinning in circles. What are you doing? I asked. Ugh wheres the bathroom? she slurred. Greatttt, I bet shes going to puke the

rest o the night, I said to mysel and pointed her in the right direction.

I woke up the next morning to my riends pounding on the door and screamingWafe House! While we were getting ready to go

grab some hangover ood, one o my riends couldnt help but mention how bad my room smelled. I opened a window and orgot

about it since I was still hazy rom the night beore and didnt want to deal. I gured the smell was probably rom my riend puking

in the bathroom and I would clean it up later. Ater we returned rom breakast I went to check out the smell. It was weird, my

bathroom wasnt a mess, so I took out my trash, I sprayed air reshener, but nothing changed. Ater TWO weeks o this smell I hap-

pened to open my closet. To my surprise... *

Since 2004, World o Warcrathas been the undisputed kingpin o MMOgaming, or its ans, its detractors and even those deconstructing thegenre. Although other games, such as City o Heroes, Lord o the R ingsOnline and DC Universe Online have made signicant grabs into the

subscriber base, none o them have been able to unseat the dominant orce inthe genre. WoWs subscriber base has been on the decline recently, promptingBlizzard to make the game ree up to level 20 and utilizing other methods toget people playing, but the newest challenger may be the one that nallytopples the MMO giant--Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The game, set in the Star Wars universe thousands o years beore the lms,is set in a cold war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Players

can choose rom eight classes across both actions, and customize their playstyle as a tank, a healer or just a normal ghter. The bare bones mechanicsare almost exactly the same as WoW, but the big dierence is where BioWarereally works its magic: eight ully-voiced storylines, one or each class, withcharacter decisions being chosen through a system much like another oneo BioWares smash hits, Mass Efect. These stories help to create a real senseo immersion beyond logging on to a character and leveling up to take onstronger baddies. (That action is still there in ull, so no ear i youre into it.)This wasnt the rst attempt at a Star Wars MMO (that honor goes to SonysStar Wars Galaxies, set in the same time period as the movies and not quiteas successul), but SWTOR certainly stands out on its own. Beyond the mainquests, theres still plenty o player-vs-player (PvP) action, both in the gameworld and in specialized warzone maps that one could play in. Flashpoints(similar to dungeons in WoW) and heroic quests encourage teamwork andconnecting with riends, as well as strategy and tactics to advance through

the questline. It also wouldnt be Star Wars without some space combat, andthere are optional mini-game, rail shooting space missions that split theaction up a bit and garner some nice XP bonuses.

A game oSWTORs scale would take months to make a ull, comprehensivereview, so Ill just say its a great game and leave it at that. What interests memost about its release, however, is how BioWare, LucasArts and EA eectivelybuilt upon the template that WoWset up and combined it with some o thebest narrative aspects o single-player gaming, and it makes me wonder howgaming can change in the uture. Consider that i an MMO can have a storylinethat could rope in gamers who gear more towards the single-player, story-driven game, it could perhaps change the way they look at gaming. In some

ways, SWTOR (and WoWand every other MMO) already unctions as its ownworld. I said world can be just as appealing or its narrative as its inevitablerun up to level 50 and endgame content, that could speak volumes or whatgaming could do in the uture.

That isnt to say that every single-player game should start to adapt MMOcharacteristics, or that every MMO needs to become exactly like SWTOR,though that will likely begin to occur to some degree. Another thing toconsider, though, is whether or not that this game represents the highestlimit that a MMO can reach: now that several actual storylines have beeninterwoven, what more can be done to improve the genre? There will alwaysbe improvement, as there always is with most innovations, but its dicult tosee what orm that will take at this point. While there may not be the culturalimpact that WoWbrought in, it could be the game that nally topples thegiant.

    >> In order or any Japanese RPG to work, it needs bothcrazy hair and large swords. Well done, Square Enix.

    Web 3.0 By AJLansdale

    >> When people think o Japanese RPGs, the Final Fantasyseries is almost always the rst onethat comes to mind. Most o the series has been pretty good historically, though complaintshave been levied at its rather linear progression compared to its Western competition in recentyears. Square Enix attempted to rectiy this, and theyve done a pretty good job o this, almostbringing Chrono Trigger to mind with the time travel elements here. However, the storysuers as a result, lacking a lot o real emotional punch that previous iterations have had. Itsdenitely worth looking into, though, especially i you played the rst Final Fantasy XIII. (Whata weird numbering system.)

    RPGFinal Fantasy XIII-2

SoulCalibur V>> The tale o souls and

swords is back in ull orce, physics and all. The gameisnt drastically dierentrom its predecessor, exceptthat Ezio rom AssassinsCreed replaces the Star Warscharacters rom the previousgame, which is a nice (andmore logical) choice. Thegameplay is fuid and workswell, but the learning curveis pretty steep or noobs tothe series, or the ghtinggenre in general. The single-player is a laughable, two-hour waste o time thatdoesnt help a players skills, which is rustrating at itsend, but the multiplayer isstill un and intuitive. I youcan pick up the skill to playand have some people toplay with, youll like this.Otherwise, just play it at ariends.

    >>

    >>Thankully, theyve made some improvements since launch as ar as the servers go.

Old Republicand the State of MMO GamingBioWares new MMO seems like a worthy successor to WoW, with an actual storyline and a deluge ocontent at launch. CouldSWTORbe just another MMO, or could it change gaming altogether?

Heres the deal: Mel Guapo has the wintertime blues. These short, overcast days arekilling me. Like a wizard, the gloomy weatherhas cast a shadow upon my very soul.

But there is hope. I have seen it. These unlikely springdays weve had recently have given me a renewedburst o energy to make it to the summer, or you see, Ihave a conession to make: Im a Summer Sizzler.

I you dont know what summer sizzling is, Iapologize. Im not sure that I can describe it in words.Summer sizzling is a liestyle; its a culture. Its aboutgetting out. Its about hot days and late nights andletting things happen to you.

Actually, now that I think about it, you cant reallytalk directly about what summer sizzling is. Youhave to talk AROUND it. I can describe things to youthat DEFINITELY ARE or DEFINITELY ARE NOT summersizzling, I just cant describe its essence with words.

Its like the sun: you cant stare directly at it. To talkabout summer sizzling would be like staring at aneclipse, only instead o going blind you go mute.

What I CAN tell you about summer sizzlingHOWEVERis that now is the perect time to startplanning the perect summer sizzler, and everysummer sizzler necessitates the perect summersoundtracks. And i you know Mel Guapo, then youknow that I like to Keep it Local.

So let me tell you about one o my avorite localbands that is DEFINITELY making my Summer Sizzlersoundtrack: The Boom Bang. East meets west with TheBoom Bang, bringing the coasts punk sounds togetherin the heartland, right here in Norman.

The Boom Bang released their debut 7 EP BummerCamp in 2010 and have been kicking ass since then, releasing a ull-length around this time last year, and most recently releasing a split 7 with OKCs TheCopperheads (another one o my avorite local bands),showcasing two new tunes Jabroni Ramoney andSugar Ray Romano.

The Boom Bang combine the aggression o the East

Coasts Ramones with the West Coasts verbed-outand laid-back boredom. Weston Lorance on bass andCharles Whetstone on drums hold it all down andprovide a battleeld or Tommy McKenzies guitarand James Smiths croons to hack it out. When Tommypushes, Smith pushes back.

These guys are bored and trying to have un and justdont give a sh*t. And thats what summer sizzling isall about. And theyre also all about pizza parties. ANDTHATS DEFINITELY WHAT SUMMER SIZZLING IS ALLABOUT.

I was ortunate to get to talk to The Boom Bangsguitarist, Tommy McKenzie, over the phone rom the

    road on their current tour.

MG: I am writing a piece about how The Boom Bangis making my Summer Sizzler soundtrack. Where doessummertime t into The Boom Bang?

TM:You think o summertime, you think o un. You cango to the river with your buddies. You can go on a rat.Its related. I dont know. I think were a un band. I thinkeverybody should be a un band.

MG: Are you a Summer Sizzler?TM:Id say so. I like sizzling.

MG: What is sizzling? Thats the question, isnt it?TM:Sizzling can be about anything, you know? I think

sizzling is just having a good time. I you want to get downto brass tacks about it.

MG: Would you say its a liestyle?TM:Uhhh, I think its a liestyle, but you could also sizzle

moderately and still go along your day.

MG: Thats true. Thats very true. Thats a good point.TM:Sizzling is just un. Having a lot o un.

MG: Having un and taking it easy.TM:There we go, yeah. Just chilling out.

MG: Yeah. I youre going to do activities, probablysmall activities. You know? Sitting on a porch: thats anactivity. Chatting with your buddies. Drinking a beer.

TM: Yeah, that sounds great right about now.

MG: Exactly. Just imagine, like, 85 degrees. Sitting on apatio somewhere, drinking a beer. Mmmmm.

TM:Just relaxing. Relaxing is sizzling, too.

MG: How would you describe The Boom Bang in threewords?

    TM: Always Palling Around.

MG: As a control question, how would you describe theStatue o Liberty in three words?

    TM: Smaller in Person.

MG: How would you describe Norman in three words?TM: Its Always Sizzling.

MG: How would you describe The Boom Bang in FIVEwords? But you have to use diferent words than thethree words beore.

TM: Everyones Louder Than Everyone Else.

MG: Thats kind o a Zen thing. I like that.

MG: What are all the ways that Norman is the best?TM: Norman is the best because I think anybody can

nd comort there. You just have to pursue it. Theres a loto really good music going on. Theres so many diferent

places o direction to go rom. And its because in a waytheres not a whole lot IN Norman. So it makes this weirdeclectic thing. I dont know i Norman has gone through

phases or not, but right now so many people are makingmusic, and other people are wanting to make musicBECAUSE o that. Not like copying of o anybodys sounds, but you can kind o see how much un playing music is.

MG: Describe The Boom Bang in a hand gesture.TM: Hmmm, okay. Hands. (Tommy thinks or a while.)

    Two thumbs up.

MG: Alright. Thats two hands, but thats ne.TM:Oh, good.

MG: What are some o your avorite places in Norman?TM:Blu I really like McNellies a lot. I work there. Its

really, really good beer. Thats another good place to go inthe summer. You know, we

At this point in the interview, I (Mel Guapo) personallybelieve that a ghost passed through the tape o myrecording machine. You can hear some strange noiselast or a second or two and it blurs out both o ourvoices. Check it out. You can listen to the entirety o thisinterview online at www.BoydStreet.com/MelGuapo

Theres a lot o great stuf, as well, about the origin othe name The Boom Bang.

Imust give credit or the idea o this article to two people,Jake and Dr. Gary Chapman. Jake is the Boyd Street editor.Dr. Chapman, hes a marriage counselor and is probably nowa multi-millionaire because o his novel The 5 Love Languages.

The subject here that Im talking about is love ... and Im going totell you about in ve dierent languages, or something like that.

This Dr. Chapman man helped inspire the articles content, butIm telling you what it was only a matter o time beore I stumbledonto this idea o people thinking o love as something dierentthan what I think love is. I think everyone who is close to me

in my lie speaks to me in a dierent love language and I cantbelieve its taken me so long to reach this obvious conclusion.Ater a while all their languages run together and they might aswell be speaking in tongues to me. Right beore I heard about LoveLanguages, (and I might be the only one who didnt know becausehes sold millions o copies) I was on the brink o discovering howto communicate with my boyriend- because without a doubtwe dont speak the same tongue. Same goes or my parents. Andmy sister. And my boss. And oh-my-gosh. How in the world isit possible to keep everyone in your lie happy? How do you leteveryone know theyre loved?

Lets start here, with the languages, or categories, that peopleuse to give and receive love. According to the doctor, there are veo them: Words o Armation, Quality Time, Receiving Gits, Actso Service and Physical Touch. All o the titles pretty much sum upones love agenda.

I they need to be rearmed with words youve got a Words oArmation person on your hands. I they just want to BE with you

physically next to you at almost all times, youve got a QualityTime kind o person. I they want gits and physical symbols oyour love, they speak the language o Receiving Gits. I the words,Can I do that or you? make him/her light up like a birthdaycake candle, that person speaks in Acts o Service. And nally ihugs, kisses, hand-holding, spooning and other random acts otouching make this person eel warm inside, youve got a PhysicalTouch kind o lover.

I personally know someone who ts into each o the categories. So eventually, being the complicated person that I am, I wanted toknow where I t in. Sure enough, the doctor has provided a website

or people to gure out their score (http://www.5lovelanguages.com/assessments/love/). In the rst test I took, I scored as shownbelow (the highest or any genre is 12).

The test results show that I eel most lovedwhen the person Im with does somethinglike the dishes or me. Reaaaally? Apparentlythe key to my heart lies in the words, Whatcan I do to help you? BINGO. This is correct. You know why this is correct? Because oneo my ondest memories o my relationship

is when my boyriend went to my house the day we were leavingor a road trip and packed a bag or me and or my dog and thentook my dog and the bags back to his house, allowing me leavework and meet up with him immediately. THAT is huge. Like i Ihad one day to pick to relive over and over again, that day might

just be it. Now i you asked him what his avorite moment wouldbe ... well, I dont know. Actually I probably do know, it probablyhas something to do with touching.

Anyway, just to be sure, I took the quiz again and it yieldedbasically the same results:

Okay, Im armed. Now that Im ully awareo the languages Im speaking. I just needmy relatives and loved ones to take the testand let me know their score, too. Wouldntit just be nice? One day I hope I get a phonecall rom my mom where she says, I speak inReceiving Gits, and although you called me

three times on my birthday it didnt mean a thing until I received

the card and fowers you sent me even though they were a daylate.Yes, thatd be nice. Until then, Ill keep dreaming. But the least

you could do is go online and take the quiz or yoursel. Hey,the knowledge just might pay o one day. Sure, honey you canvacuum the foor.

    Dear Elizabeth,

I recently started crushing on thisguy, but I know my best riend alreadylikes him. When Im with him he firtswith me more than her. I dont wantto make her mad, but I really like thisguy. What do you think I should do?- Janie

    Dear Janie,

Well, this is an odd situation. But you probably shouldnt have started be-coming interested in the guy your bestriend already liked. The act that sheliked him possibly made you like himeven more. This happens, but honestlyits not healthy. The drama o it all. Do

you really want to lose a riend overthis guy? He doesnt sound like a surething. When he asks you out on a datethen maybe you might really have adecision to make.

Dear Elizabeth,How do I get guys to notice me? Im

a little shy I guess. Im okay with that.Does that mean I have to be single orthe rest my lie? Guys walk right pastme.

    Dear Ashley,

No! No! No! Dont give up. Were talking

about COLLEGE here. First and oremost,

maybe make some wardrobe, makeup ad-

Im saying accentuate your beauty. Also,

go out on a limb, get involved, ask a guy

The lines between media have been blurring or along time. Films are becoming extended TV series.Musicals are becoming movies. YouTube sensationsare getting record contracts and lm spots, and

blogs are hitting the big screen.Movies have shited in popularity many times since

they were rst invented, but they have always been aavorite orm o entertainment. It makes sense, then, thatHollywood and its workers would be caught up in thiscrossing o media. Ater all, now that the media industryis becoming more one big industry than a set o smallerones, how can anyone expect to survive in it i they closethemselves o?

The most obvious crossover is between the movie andmusic worlds. I know what youre thinking: Never SayNever. But even though its impressive that Justin Bieber, ater being alive or only 17 years, had a documentarymade about his lie, theres more to this relationship than

just movies about musical artists. Look to your right, andyoull see that Taylor Swit is playing in the upcoming lm, The Lorax. Amanda Seyried, who started as the dumbcharacter inMean Girls, has started to record a ew songs.

Its not uncommon these days to see your avorite singerpop up on IMDB in at least a bit part. Why? Because theyreyour avorite singer.

I that sounds circuitous, think about it this way. Iyouve bought all o Joe Schmoes albums, and have ourcategorized playlists devoted to him on your computer,

wouldnt you at least go see a movie where he plays theyoung handsome tempter or the wise old ather? (The roledepends, o course, on your taste in Joe Schmoes.) Singershave star powerand the same goes or actors andactresses. The movie business is a business like any other, and that star power is a more eecti ve advertisement thanten Super Bowl spots.

To be air, lots o examples o this come rom the Disneystar vein, because thats how they market themselves. ISelena Gomez and Miley Cyrus can sing and speak, thenthose are two ways in which they can be valuable to thecompany. Utilizing both o those ways certainly doesntmean that their ans will love them any less.

The list o those celebrities who have lived in bothworlds, though, is much more diverse than tween girls:Clint Eastwood, Cher, Beyonc, Queen Latiah, JustinTimberlake, Mandy Moore, Toby Keith, Will Smith andmore than I have ngers to count on have straddledthe line between lm and music o every genre. Some, obviously, have been more successul or popular thanothers. Lets not even talk about Lindsay Lohans musiccareer.

Whether or not this crossover is helping or hurting thequality o entertainment produced is something that onlythe audience can decide. The question, then, is whetheror not the audience will choose quality over namerecognition. I not, then we can prepare ourselves orRobert Pattinsons new electronic music debut soon.

Crime mystery shows are probably the most-watched genre on TV today, but o all othe shows in the air, Bones is thetop-rated. Bones is currently in its

seventh season and still going strong. The premise is based on the true story oKathy Reichs, a orensic anthropologistand novelist. The problem-solving duoon the show is Dr. Brennan, a orensicanthropologist and bone specialist, and Special Agent Booth, a

ormer Army sniper. The two distrust eachothers methods, but their skills have orcedthem to work together. The tension anddisagreements between them add confict to

the show beyond just the crime-solving, andthe rest o the characters provide insight into the plot andrelie rom Brennan and Booths sparring. The shows toneis darkened by its subject matter, but the interplay betweencharacters keeps it light enough to make the audiencechuckle.

The OConnells on Lindsey farewell tour finallycame to an end. For one of Normans oldestdrinking haunts it was a nice that the run ofthe original location lasted a few more years

than originally expected. Quite a few townies andI daresay some of your parents surely made somememories there over the last few decades. In fact, for the Norman veterans, St. Pattys Day might notfeel the same for a few years. Thankfully, you canstill find a No-Name burger and come March, yourgreen beer. For a bar thats been associated withOU nightlife for so long, its kind of fitting that theymade their way to the Corner.

OConnells is a little different than most of thebars around town. Most of them serve food, andof course, all of them can get you drunk, if you sodesire, but OConnells is one of the only ones whereyou will see a family eating a meal there at lunch ordinner and the students bombarding at night. LikeI say, only a few places have managed to pull thatone off.

Speaking of the food, the menu is a treasury of barfare and its done quite well. To my knowledge, itsthe only place in town to get the aformentioned No-Name burger, which if you consider yourself a burger

aficionado and havent tried it youre missing out. Ifyou get some fried pickles with it so be it.As far as themed late night drinking goes, they

have you covered every weeknight. Though Ive neverreally seen the point of chicken wings, their wingnight on Mondays is pretty solid. In fact, its theseare the only wings in town that I ever eat. Sorry, I

just dont like wing sauce and the abomination thatis ranch dressing. Thankfully for me, their wings usea different sauce thats a little sweet and a touchspicy (but not hot) thats right up my alley. For every

other Oklahomans sake, feel free to use the ranch.Bingo night has long been a part of drinking in

this town going back to the glory days of The Vistaand its continued over here on Tuesdays. Thursdayfeatures the new sensation that has swept throughtown in the last year or two, the vaunted trivianight. Admittedly, I am yet to take part in one ofthese. Dont get me wrong, trivia is awesome, butmy team had a crushing run of six straight secondplace finishes at La Luna last year that I still haventpsychologically recovered from. And yes, it might bebecause Im crazy.

The star of this show however, is karaoke night onWednesday, because who doesnt love karaoke. Evenif youre not the type to get up there and belt outa few tunes its never not fun to watch the show.Lets be honest, you dont roll in to a karaoke nightwithout some friends so its not like you can go wronganyway. Granted, as its written in the Constitution, you will probably hear someone channel Steve Perryfor the Journey song that shall not be named, or singSweet Caroline, and at least one terrible countrysong, but thats the nature of the beast.

I recently took in a karaoke night and I must say, theyve got their system down. What you worry

about with karaoke events is poor execution. Despiteit getting increasingly busy as the night went on,our drinks were always full and delicious and thegentleman running the show had it working like awell-oiled machine. Plus, he had some Frank Sinatrain there which I certainly respect even if he isntnecessarily a go-to artist for people that werentborn to croon.

Whether you need a theme to get your drink/eaton or not, theres something at OConnells to tickleyour proverbial fancy. Also, sidebar, I automatically

enjoy any bar where the actual bar is situated inthe middle of it. It feels like youre back in Irelanddoesnt it? Actually, I have no idea, thats just whatbooks and movies have led me to believe. As always, well see you at the bar. Shots!

The ping o the bat, the smell o popcorn and the amiliar sounds o the YARDBIRDS heckling the opposing team. What all does that mean? It is time onceagain or another University o Oklahoma baseball season. Head Coach SunnyGolloway and the Sooners look to continue a trend o great baseball in his tenure

as the skipper o the Sooners. New coaches, new players and new improvements toL. Dale Mitchell Park all highlight what could be another amazing season o Soonerbaseball.

Trying to build o their third straight 41-plus wins season and the programs 34thpost- season appearance, this season the Sooners are poised to do big things. Lastyear ended with what many who ollow the program as an unsatisying ending withtwo straight losses in the Ft. Worth Regional, ater making a run to Omaha the previousyear. The Sooners started last year ranked th and moved up to as high as secondwhen they started out 16-0. Coach Golloway, the Sooners and those who ollow thebaseball team are getting used to the high expectations and look or the Sooners toproduce. This season starts on February 17th as the Sooners travel out to Malibu,Caliornia to take on Pepperdine beore making their rst home stand on the 24thagainst Hartord. This years team starts in the rankings anywhere rom 14th to 19thand has some match ups against top 25 teams in and o Big12 play.

Gone this year are senior leaders Garrett Buechele, Tyler Ogle, Michal Rocha, andCameron Sitzer. 20 new Sooners will join 15 returning letter winners and will leanheavily on the likes o a healthy Caleb Bushyhead and ellow Oklahoman Max White. The Kung Fu Panda Cody Reine and Cody Ross are seniors that need to take theleadership roles. Juniors Drew Harrison, Jack Mayeld and Erik Ross were part o the2010 College World Series team and will add experience and leadership or the newmembers o the Sooners.

Sooner ans, i you are looking or a newcomer to ollow and be interested in, I willtell you one to get excited about. I this players talent is as great as his name, the endo games could be un to watch. Damien Magnico is a junior right-handed pitcher

who comes to the Sooners rom Howard College and has been clocked well into the100 mile an hour range on his pitches. A dominant closer with the type o gas theMagnico possesses will rustrate, bae and even strike a smidge o ear into a batteras he steps into the box.

Now dont get me wrong, there is a ton o talent on this team and I am not sayingthat Magnico is the only Sooner that has a chance to have a special year. A healthyBushyhead and a reocused Reine along with the return o reshman All-AmericanDillon Overton this is going to be a un team to watch and I believe the Sooners willend up back in Omaha at seasons end. So get out to L. Dale Mitchell, ll up the stands,ll up the berms.

You can hear the Sooners on the fag ship station or Sooner baseball Sports Talk 1400,with the voice o the Sooners Toby Rowland being joined by ormer Sooner baseballplayer Ross Hubbard. Sooner ootball sideline reporter Chris Plank and assistantdirector o athletics communications at OU Craig Moran will do some ll-in work romtime to time on the broadcast as well.

There comes a time inevery college studentslie where they aregiven the opportunity

to run ree. Hello , spring break. Its a time olawlessness, a time where upstanding citizens

in destination towns hide their valuables and dontlet their 16-year-old kids stay out past sundown. Its

marvelous, and is one o the only times in a persons liewhere theyre given one glorious week o to do whatever the

heck they please. In other words ... Its party time.(Psss ... For those who dont know, spring break is March 17th-25th. Youre

welcome.)As one o my riends who graduated college two years ago put it, I partied in

college, but knowing what I know now, i I was given the chance to do it again, Idparty a whole lot harder.

Consider me your enabler. Because we here at Boyd Street have pulled together a list olocations with unparalleled party potential.

    No. 12 JamaicaThe number 12

    destination on our list,

and yes we made a list

    o 12 because were

    just that indecisive, is

Negril, Jamaica. Notonly does Negril boast

    a Seven- Mile Beach

    thats ull o party

people, but it is ull o

all-inclusive resorts and beach lined with bars. I youre looking or a

classier destination, check out Montego Bay- A place where the party

continues and the pool will probably have swim-up bar.

No. 11 BahamasFlying there would be cool. But the idea here is that you can take an all-

you-can-drink party cruise rom Florida and par ty all the way to Freeporton Grand Bahama

    Island. The good thing

    about cruises is you can

    gamble, and as long as

    you can maintain sea

    legs, you can drink as

    much as you want. No

    drinking and driving? No

    problem. Bon Voyage.

No. 10 Crested Butte, ColoradoWith slick slopes, resh snow, snow bunnies and a college-aged crowd,

    Crested Butte takes the

    cake when it comes

    to skiing over spring

    break. The slopes are

    snow board riendly

    and the people are as

    chilled as the stu on

    the ground. Sure there

    are other hot spots in

Colorado, but throughresearch and word o mouth, this sounds like the spot this year. Get a

condo or party it up at a resort. Its a win-win.

No. 9 Puerto RicoLets just say this place didnt get the name Island o Enchantment on

accident. Between a ew mojitos (the island is home to Bacardi, dont

    orget) and the island

    air this lively place

    has, theres no way you

can go wrong. Sip on adrink and relax on the

    cool waters. Party it

    up in the vibrant night

    scene, and grub on the

    avorul ood.

No. 8 Cabo San LucasWhen someone tells me

    that theyre going to

Cabo or spring break,a small part o me prays

    that they come back.

And on top o that, Ive

    never heard anyone ever

    just say theyre going to

    Cabo; they scream it

    loud and proud every

time, Immm going to Cabo! Awesome. That kind o buzz beore the

trip can only lead to an epic buzz during it. College students can do Cabo

on the cheap with an array o spring break packages and all-inclusive

resorts, or they can do it VIP style. Either way there are enough bars and

night lie options or the rich and poor college kid alike.

No. 7 Europe (yes, all of it ...-ish)I youve seen Euro-Trip, you might have an idea o what Im talking

about. More American kids than ever are taking that leap across the

ocean. And with Amsterdam sitting on the other side, who can blame

them? The question isnt what is legal to do in Amsterdam, its what isnt

legal to do in Amsterdam- Or at least in the red light district. For those

apprehensive travelers, London and Paris have no shortage o things to

do or celebratory parties, just make sure to plan ahead because it can get

    crowded.

    28/33

No. 6 Puerto VallartaEarning the number

    six spot, with 24 miles

    o coastline is Puerto

    Vallarta. A mix o laid-

    back and upbeat, let the

cobblestone streets leadyou to one o the many

    exotic watering holes

    (and discos). Im not

    sure how valid this claim

is, but Puerto Vallarta alleges that they are one o the saest spring break

destinations in Mexico. And really, the clubs here are top-notch. Word on

the street rom past spring-breakers I know is that Carlos O Brians is a

hot joint to see and be seen.

No. 5 Miami & South BeachAnywhere in Florida is really a sure thing as ar as spring break goes, but

this year Miami is buzzing. Not exactly Grand Theft Auto, but almost. This

isnt the 80s anymore, but things can still get pretty crazy. The nightclubs

are hotter than ever. Dont be surprised i you spot sponsored events by

Playboy or MTV, apparently theyve been hitting up the Miami/South

Beach area or the last ew years ... Oh darn- Sounds horrible, huh?

No. 4 CancunA college spring break isnt complete without a trip to Cancun. Party-

starved kids ock here. Margarita madness sums up this crowds state o

mind. Its an awesome un time with a non-stop party and later than latenights dancing. Deals

    to Cancun are soooo

    cheap, and the drinking

    age is 18 (there you

    go reshmen). Not to

    mention Cancun has

    all o those traditional

    spring break staples like

    Pat OBrians, and Seor

    Frogs.

No. 3 Panama CityThey have deemed themselves the Spring Break Capital or a reason.

Along with the worlds largest bikini parade and perormances by up-

and-coming artists like Yelawol, Luke Bryon, Eric Church and DJ Unk,

the music doesnt stop and neither does the alcohol. I would denitely

recommend investing in a Panamaniac card. It keeps track o all the

parties and specials -- without it, youre just one in a million partiers.

No. 2 South Padre IslandThe Travel Channel called Coca-Cola Beach on South Padre Island the

largest beach party on the planet. People rom all over the nation

recognize that South Padre Island has what it takes to hold a top spot

on the party program. Coca-Cola (and its beach) is getting in on the

action year by partnering with the city and making South Padre Island

its ofcial spot. This means there will be a 50,000-watt sound system,a water balloon contest,

    a stage, DJs and yeah

    even Nick Cannon is

    supposed to show up.

    The water might not

    exactly be blue, but

    the beaches are white

    and ull o partiers. The

    party doesnt stop in

    this town.

No. 1 Las VegasLets ace it, while the majority o cities give spring breakers the cold

shoulder, Vegas welcomes them with open arms. Come college kids,

come ... In the last ew years Vegas has undergone a party revival. Sin

City has always had a sot spot or spring breakers, but this year spring

break ever is on steroids. MTV is holding their spring break estivities

there, and with MTV comes about hal o the spring break population.

Clubs like Moon, Ghost Bar and The Playboy Club will be jam packed, and

    more than likely worth

    the wait. The Palms is

reserved by MTV party-goers but you could

    always try to get in.

    Anywhere on the strip

    will be prime partying

    territory, and the truth

    is it sounds like things

are be going to get so

crazy, you might not sleep at all. Just remember one thing ... bring your

    wallet.

Alright spring breakers, theres our list. Make us proud ... And eel ree to

send us pictures. You might even be eatured in the magazine or on the

website. The party clock countdown starts ... Now!

I I were a betting girl, Id bet that i you walked into MelsKloset on Main Street, youd be greeted with a hellorom none other than Melissa Kahn. Shes the ownerand operator o Mels, and the Kloset that youre

walking into ... you can bet its hers. With her personal

touch shining through every piece o hand-pickedmerchandise, Mels Kloset oers the Norman consumera piece o whats next, alongside quality wardrobe piecesand accessories.

Located in a 3,000-sq.-t. acility perched in the middle o atriecta o luxury, Mels Kloset sits in the middle o a ine homedecorating store and a jewelry shop close to where 24thAve NW and W. Main Street intersect. Originally located onLindsey Street, the store moved to its current spot aboutive years ago and has just within the last two and a halyears started selling clothing. Although the store will becelebrating its eighth anniversary in March, owner Kahn hasbeen in retail since she was 15 years old and even went toashion school in Atlanta.

Spending the last 17 years in Norman, Kahn worked atHarolds (way beore they went under) and even served sometime managing Brothers and Step Brothers. On to greener

pastures she started Mels Kloset, and can claim a companythat boasts hot brands and merchandise or women o allages. As she said in my interview with her, You might walkinside and see bright colors, but we cater to all ages.

Whether customers are a size S or XL, Kahn makes sure tooer sizes or all, and says, An average-size human beingcan it into our clothes and ind trendy clothes. Personally, this is a rereshing concept considering some boutiques onlyaccommodate up to about a size six, and even then the sixsometimes eels like it stands or the I-havent-eaten-in-six-months-size.

Helping Normanites keep up with up-to-the-second trends is nonominal task. Six to eight months in advance Kahn and he r selectedashion accomplice start shopping. And when I say shopping, Imean SHOPPING. She hea ds to Vegas or MAGIC, a textile, ashionand accessory exhibit held twice a year. Between Vegas and trips

to Market at Dallas Market Center the trendy ingredients thatmake up Mels Kloset every season never stop coming. With such a diverse selection o oerings at Market and at

MAGIC, its up to Kahn and her helper to determine whats going towork. Geared at clothing even Jennier Aniston would approve o,their work is cut out or them. The process o selection these pastew seasons has let Kahn with a ew avorite lines that she carries inher store, including !iT Jeans, Johnny Was, G-Wear, Yellow Box FlipFlops, 3J Workshop by Johnny Was, and rom what I ca n gather oneo her personal avorite lines, P.J. Salvage. Almost everyone whobuys a pair comes and get s a second, she adds, I used to wear theGap and Old Navy, but igured out that Id rather have one goodpair than a ew o those that arent so sot.

Yup, preach on sista. Like the P.J. Salva ge line, most o what Me lsKloset sells comes rom U.S.-based companies. This brings me onto another subject, not only does Mels Kloset bring you big brandswith a personalized touch, but it also reinorces the shopping local

experience. Just do it, I tell you. We appreciate those that shoplocal, said Kahn.

For those interested in personalized shopping Mels Kloset oersprivate parties and trunk shows. And you can even spot MelsKloset clothing at the ever- eventul Fashions Night Out event heldin September (Yes, Kahn helped initiate this national movementin Norman).

So lets see. Supporting local business? Check. Cute clothes andreasonable sizes? Check. Friendly owner and environment? Check.Check. Everyway around, Mels Kloset is deinitely a closet worthstepping into.
