Dear fellow Bousteadians,

As we look back on 2017, though it was a demanding year, I am pleased to note that the Group was able to persevere through external headwinds to record robust growth.

Rising above the obstacles, your Group produced handsome results for the nine-month period ended 30 September 2017 with a profit after tax of RM749 million compared with RM404 million the previous year.

These significant results were spearheaded by the Plantation Division, where we realised gains on the disposal of plantation land. Earnings were further supported by higher palm product prices and lower finance costs. In addition, our Trading & Industrial and Finance & Investment Divisions both recorded strong profits for the nine months under review.

In line with our strong performance and the Group’s commitment to enhancing value for our shareholders, we declared a third interim dividend of 3 sen per share for the third quarter of the fiscal year, bringing total declared dividends to 8.5 sen per share to date.

Our strength is rooted in the diversified nature of our Group, our ability to seek opportunities to deliver consistent growth, our commitment to ensuring the quality of our investments as well as our driven talent pool. Over the years, this has resulted in significant successes.

Fellow Bousteadians, in our 2018 journey, it is my hope that we continue to thrive, personally and professionally, with the Group. The key is to remain vigilant and steadfast in our endeavours as a team.

Lastly, Happy New Year to all. Let us look forward to another strong year.

Thank you.

Tan Sri Dato' Seri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin

Terima kasih.

The Curve and Boustead DCP staff outingto Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

As part of the Company’s initiative to promote staff retention and

employee engagement, as well as to reward staff who have served for more than five years and above, Boustead Curve Sdn. Bhd. and Boustead DCP Sdn. Bhd. had their staff outing to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in the months of September and October 2017.

There were four trips altogether in order to accommodate shift staff and the duration of each trip was three days and two nights.

Day 1 Following our arrival at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, we were taken on a tour of My Tho district. We then took a boat trip on the Mekong River to Phoenix Island to observe how local handicrafts and coconut sweets were made. We also sampled fresh local fruit

while being entertained by a musical performance. We then rode on horse driven carriages, tasted homemade honey-tea and went on sampan rides along the river bank to observe the daily lives of the local people. We had dinner at Serai Restaurant before proceeding to check-in at the Golden Central Hotel.

Day 2

On the second day, we took a 1½ hours bus ride to Cu Chi district to visit The Cu Chi tunnels. There we saw web-like tunnels of more than 200 km in length which were used as shelters for Vietnamese guerrillas during the war against American troops.

After lunch at Shamsudin Restaurant, we visited the War Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, The Central Post Office and The People’s Committee Hall. A quick stop at Saigon Square provided us with a shopping opportunity before we returned to the hotel to prepare ourselves for dinner at Halal Saigon Restaurant.

Day 3

On the morning of the last day, we shopped at Ben Thanh market which was only five minutes walking distance from our hotel. Before departing for Tan Son Nhat International Airport, we enjoyed a hearty meal at Kampung Pandan Restaurant. We arrived safely back at the Curve at 9:30 pm that night.

Group Secretarial Department teambuilding in Bangkok, Thailand (28 - 31 July 2017)

The Group Secretarial Department visited Bangkok, Thailand for a short

but memorable teambuilding trip from 28 - 31 July 2017. During the trip, we stayed at Al Meroz Hotel Bangkok, a certified Halal hotel situated in Ramkhamhaeng Road. The objective of the trip was to strengthen staff connection outside the confines of the office walls.

Day 1

Our flight touched down at Suvarnhambumi Airport, Bangkok at 10:15 am local time and we were greeted by our Thai guide, Ms. Ratchakarn @ Pinky. After lunch, we went to Art In Paradise at The Esplanade, the first 3D Art Museum in Bangkok. We took lots of true-to-life photos and had fun trying all the tips and positions to take the best photos.

We then took a tour to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market at Ratchaburi Province. A true floating market of Thailand, we had the opportunity to see Thai villagers selling their items and products in the old Thai style long tail boats.

After lunch, we went back to the city for more shopping at the famous Chatuchak Weekend market. The 35-acre area of Chatuchak is home to more than 8,000 market stalls. Although it was drizzling heavily that evening, our team made time to shop for more souvenirs. We headed back to the hotel after dinner.

Day 3

We began the day with Chao Phraya River Tour. The staff boarded a boat for a half-day cruise along Bangkok’s narrow canals. Our guide took us to the thriving communities and quiet neighbourhoods for a canal-side glimpse of life by the water. At the end of the tour, we were given the opportunity to feed some fish outside one of the monasteries along the canal.

In the afternoon, we went to The Arts of Kingdom exhibition show at Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. We were fortunate

At night, we went back to the city centre and enjoyed some light shopping at ASIATIQUE The Riverfront. One of the largest open-air mall in Bangkok, it is situated in front of the Chao Phraya River and used to be the former docks of the East Asiatic Company.

Day 2

Early in the morning on the second day, we took a bus ride to Maeklong Railway Market at Samut Singkhram. What makes the market unique is the fact that the railway runs through the centre of the market and vendors must pull back their awnings and wares every time a train goes past. Amazingly, nothing is damaged or broken, and as soon as the train passes, vendors continue as normal. We were lucky enough to be at the tracks at the right time to see the train running through the market.

to see the actual functioning throne hall of King Rama V and the array of gold handiwork and royal crafts exhibited.

Day 4

That morning, we had a leisurely breakfast before boarding the bus to Suvarnhambumi Airport and bidding farewell to our guide. Our flight, MH 789 was at 2:15 pm and the plane reached KLIA at 5:15 pm. It was a memorable four-day trip for our department. Being the third teambuilding event after Cik Tasneem joined the Company, the staff displayed a deeper understanding of each other, evidenced by the trust and respect shared as a group, during this short adventure to Thailand.

A simultaneous fire evacuation drill was held on 22 November 2017

for Menara Boustead and Wisma Boustead involving about 1700 participants comprising tenants, fire marshals, building management team, security personnel as well as the building’s Emergency Response Team. The evacuation drill was supervised by Jabatan Bomba Dan Penyelamat Kuala Lumpur (Bomba) with the help of the Traffic Police Kuala Lumpur and Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah.

Fire Evacuation Drill at Menara Bousteadand Wisma Boustead

Bomba declared the evacuation drill a success whereby the occupants of Menara Boustead and Wisma Boustead took 23 minutes and 8 minutes respectively to completely evacuate the buildings. The maximum allowable evacuation time is 28 minutes for Menara Boustead and 8 minutes for Wisma Boustead. A ‘post mortem’ session was held immediately after the evacuation drill chaired by the Bomba Officer, Tuan PBT Abd Wahab Hj. Ariffin from Balai Bomba Jalan Hang Tuah. He stressed the importance for all building occupants to participate in such exercise with seriousness and to familiarise with

the evacuation procedure as an emergency can occur in a building when least expected. Among the things he observed were some tenants not vacating their office when they realised it was only a fire drill and the fire marshals were not able to identify the actual number of staff present during a roll call. He also observed some floor fire marshals had left their office floors without ensuring that all occupants on their floors have safely evacuated first. Boustead Property Division wish to thank all participants for making this fire evacuation drill a success.

In order to deliver the best safety and security services for the Curve shopping mall, our security personnel are required to undergo a self-

defence training course four times a year, conducted by Polis DiRaja Malaysia instructors. Having been with us since 4 June 2007, Security Assistant, En. Abu Bakar bin Che Chan has shown immense grit and determination. Despite losing a limb in a road accident in 2010, this did not deter him from continuing to work hard and take part in training sessions. Kudos to En. Abu Bakar for his dedication and perseverance!

Posing for the camera while waiting for our customers Busking our way to raise funds for Kiwanis Centre

On 1 October 2017, several Group Corporate Communication & Administration (GCCA) staff sacrificed their time to lend

a hand to the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation National Centre at its Annual Charity Food & Fun Fair, in aid of raising funds for the education of children with Down Syndrome. As early as 8:00 am, we set up our booth selling home-made pasta, muffins and other tidbits, as well as head bands and hair clips. Our staff not only ‘minded’ our booth but also ‘busked’ around the fair to attract customers. We called it a day at 3:00 pm, donating all sales proceeds to the Kiwanis Centre.

During the day we also had a chance to spend time with the children of Kiwanis. They were very engaging and we fully agree that every child is entitled to an education. This community initiative was organised to introduce the concept of volunteerism to our staff. Volunteering at this event was an eye-opener, helping us realise that even a small gesture like this can make a big impact, as well as providing a sense of accomplishment.

The BHPetrol Orange Run is back for the 12th consecutive

year! Organised by BHPetrol in collaboration with Polis DiRaja Malaysia, Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya and Affin Bank, the annual marathon on 1 October 2017 encourages Malaysians to embrace healthier lifestyles while giving back to those in need in society.

Mr. Tan Kim Thiam, Managing Director of BHPetrol said, “We are very pleased to mark another successful year of the Orange Run. For 12 years running, the Orange Run has provided a platform for people to join in the fun, stay in shape, and make a positive impact on the community by raising funds for charitable causes. It is great to see that even

after all these years, we have so many participants gathering here for such a good cause. We look forward to many more years ahead!”

In line with BHPetrol’s commitment to giving back to the community, following the completion of the run, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director of Boustead Holdings Berhad, presented a contribution of RM30,000 to Yayasan Kebajikan Dan Perkhidmatan Perubatan Malaysia, Persatuan Rumah Kanak-kanak Ini Disayangi, and Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia, with each charitable organisation receiving RM10,000.
