BOT News We held our monthly Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday 18 June and the following are snippets from the meeting. Jude has taken over as staff representative on the Board with Wendy away. Tenders closed yesterday for the pricing of the covered decking outside Rooms 1 & 2. This will open up the classrooms and allow for extra teaching space.

We have some extra teacher time so we have Natasha Gall working Monday –Wednesday and Uta Schroder-Gay Wednesday afternoons and Thursdays . All the teaching staff and teacher aides have been enrolled in a Heart Saver first aid course on Tuesday 28 July. The BOT have agreed to close the school for the day while the training takes place. Mark and Jude attended the Rural Teaching Principals Conference in Queenstown recently. The focus of the conference was Modern Learning Environments. It was a great opportunity to listen to what was said and reflect on how things may or may not fit into our school environment. Mark is to prepare a lockdown procedure for the school,

Early next term staff will visit recommended Nelson schools to look at how they use information technology in their classrooms to help lift achievement. After the visit and discussion with an Education IT consultant, a technology plan will be put to the Board for consideration.

The term is fast closing down and as usual the end of term seems to bring a lot of sickness. There have been quite a lot of absences over the past few week. Thanks to those who let us know when your child is away as it saves time with follow up calls.

Room 5 presented an orginal

poem about dwarves

Blacksmithing.

Being a Turtle I’m flying through the water with the sparkling jellyfish and

smooth scaled sharks, the jeweled blue bottle jelly fish and the

dolphins happily playing. I move deeper, driving through the

waves. I have 5 minutes of air left !!. I look at the silky sperm

whales. I go up for air. I look at the shining sun! I go to the

lands edge to feast on the reefs’ corals. I love the ocean.

I am a turtle.

By Jules

I am turtle I am turtle

Waiting in my egg,

Hatch, little turtle, hatch.

I am turtle,

Shoveling through the sand,

Shovel, little turtle, shovel.

I am turtle, dodging gulls,

Dodge, little turtle, dodge.

I am turtle,

Soaring through the waves,

Soar, little turtle, soar.

I am turtle,

Watching shimmering fish,

Watch, little turtle, watch!

I am turtle,

Grazing on the coral,

Graze, growing turtle, graze.

I am turtle,

Called by the moon,

Listen, big turtle, listen,

I am turtle.

By Lola H

I am a Turtle I am a turtle. My eyes are as black as coal. My shell is as green

as grass. I am buried. Hatch, little turtle, hatch. Finally I am

free! I drag my leathery tummy across pebbly sand. I reach the

water. I avoid sharks, dolphins and other hungry fish. I must

hide from the nets of the fishermen. I go to secret places and

feed on sea grass. It is time!

I am twenty years old. I scramble to the beach. Then I pull

myself into the sand. Heavy, and slow in the bright moonlight.

I find the perfect place where the sun shines and the trees

shade my eggs. And then I crawl back the sea. I am Turtle.

I swim through the waves, swim through the surf, faster and

faster,

Surf, big turtle surf! I am Turtle.

By Lily W

I am Turtle Swish, the moon light shimmered as I swished through the

glamorous sea. The sea is as dark as a blueberry, but I can see

the moon. I am facing a shark. I had better beat it or I will be

shark meat!

I have two minutes of air left. I blow bubbles with my nose. My

shell is blue in the moonlight.

I bury my eggs in the shimmering sand.

They have hatched. I have to get food straight away.

Breakfast Quiz

Well done to our two breakfast quiz teams who went along to the town library today. They all had a great time

and really enjoyed their breakfast and the quiz. It was a close competition, with the end placings coming down

to the general knowledge round. Our teams came 2nd= and third, brilliant effort and well done.

The best thing about the quiz was the breakfast! At first I was very excited and after breakfast we got straight into the first round. The quiz went very quickly. Next Year I will read the books over and over again! Tane It was really fun and quite tense because it was so quiet. If I was doing the competition again and I’d finished all the books I would then start reading books like Harry Potter and Nursery Rhymes for the General Knowledge Round. The best bit of all was the breakfast! Rhys I was happy about how prepared we were and I didn’t find the questions too hard. It was really important to whisper the answers quietly so the other teams didn’t hear. Next time I would like to start the books earlier. Pippa
