Congratulations to the Class of 2018!

Announcements

Following a relaxing and restful winter break, the faculty and staff of CATS Boston welcomed over 40 new students to CATS Boston, as well as all of our returners. This was particularly exciting for us as the good news about our school is spreading and we have now set a new record for student numbers, with over 430 enrolled. Few American high schools can say that they are experiencing such growth.

To accommodate our growing numbers, you may already be aware that our school is building a new dormitory that will house an additional 90 students and we will be expanding our homestay program for those students who are looking for a deeper American cultural experience. These additions continue alongside our commitment to provide the best academic and athletic facilities possible, and I will be speaking about new projects in future newsletters.

We were especially excited upon our return to learn about Early Decision/Early Action college acceptances among our senior class. Their hard work and preparation has been rewarded with acceptances to over 30 colleges and universities, including: Purdue, Indiana, Wisconsin, Stony Brook, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Iowa, UMass Boston, and Tulane to name just a few.

They have also been awarded many thousands of dollars in scholarships that will make their higher education experience more affordable. Congratulations!

The Spring Semester is only two weeks old and there are so many events and activities that we have planned in the coming months that it would be difficult to cover them all. As an example, however, as part of our CATS Boston observance of Martin Luther King Day, a student-driven project was initiated to open a dialogue between students, teachers, and staff about discrimination in our societies, at large; and about discrimination’s counterweight inclusion.

The kick-off was a student-produced video available on our YouTube channel that I encourage you to watch. It’s powerful!

CATS participate in DECA district competition Maya Stoilova, one of our current

students, gives us an introduction to

the CATS Academy Boston DECA Club. It has been an exciting year for the DECA club, having achieved a lot in the past two months. We attended a conference at Bentley University and started the Stock Trading Challenge, a competition the whole school is able to enrol in.

Students took part in the virtual challenge, where every participant worked individually on a project that was a simulated model of a business company. Students had to run their own simulated corporations on the Internet. This helped us to improve our skills in all spheres of business, such as marketing, management and finance.

Additionally, the DECA members like to collaborate in the organization of new fundraising events for the CATS community such as donut and pizza sales. This helps our members develop a better understanding of business and brings us enormous success.

Every meeting starts with our mission, to have a significant imprint on the school’s community by organizing and participating in competitions and fundraising sales. These events allow us, and the surrounding community, to challenge ourselves daily, to collaborate with one another, and last, but not

least – to have fun gaining important knowledge for the future, especially in areas of finance and marketing.

The club is organised into different functional committees including marketing, finance, hospitality and management. These committees encourage students to develop and focus on areas and projects they are interested in.

Our DECA president Minh Tran says “This year the club will successfully bond the school’s community together by organizing interactive activities and cheering on our spirit by winning awards from regional and hopefully national competitions”.

CATS Academy Boston DECA Club get together weekly to explore new challenges, plan events and prepare for competitions in Massachusetts.
