Transmedia RPG
Design
What is it?Zodiac is a learning game systemwhere players learn about artificialintelligence concepts like search, optimization, & machine learning.
Zodiac is being developed by a teamof world class learning gamedesigners and AI researchers, and isintended to teach Chinese highschool students about AI throughgameplay.
• Designing and developing aprofessional-level learning gamein an 18-month timeframe
• Raising $1 million in initial startupfunding
• Set to be released throughoutChina as a part of AI curriculumFall 2019
• I manage the creation of all elements of Zodiac’s design anddevelopment, from its conception through release.
• I am part of an executive planning team that works to meet investormilestones, develop the fundraising and marketing strategy, and ensurethe game’s timely progress.
• I work with a team of more than 20 learning designers, AI experts, andgame developers to integrate the learning and gameplay content, inorder to foster an engaging and meaningful learning experience.
• I perform market research and user testing on all game elements toensure that our target audience will be engaged by the game content, and will successfully learn through play.
Plant Tracer
What is it?Plant Tracer is a web and iOS app
that is used to measure and record
the movements of plants to support
research on mutant genes by
recording time-lapse videos.
Plant Tracer is used to support
undergraduate biology students with
course projects, as well as
supporting NSF-funded research on
plant evolution and mutation.
My Role – Design Coordinator• I managed all elements of the design phase of the Plant Tracer website.
• I created a design document and mockups based on the client’s needs,
then worked alongside visual designers and web developers to execute
that design across all aspects of the website.
• I created the tutorial and learning design to ensure new users could
utilize the app for their classes and research.

My Role – Program Designer• I designed the curriculum and content thatstudents would learn during the program.
• I implemented gamified program elementsincluding class activities, a social leaderboardsystem, unlockable prizes, and opt-in guestlectures.
• I created a learning support system, includinga Slack channel, Trello Boards, and otherfeatures to supplement classroom lessonsand engage students in social learning.
What is it?The Coding for Game Design
program is for international high
school students to learn coding and
game design methods from NYU
designers and developers.
Students spend two weeks learning
a game development app by making
and customizing their own games.
Each game students create teaches
a different part of coding and game
design techniques.
My Other Role –Lead Instructor• I taught daily interactive lessons on game design principles and
techniques.
• I supported coding instructors during lessons on computer science,
specifically coding HTML and Javascript.
• I worked with the students throughout the day to ensure they
understood lessons and made progress on their projects.
• I planned and facilitated activities including VR game testing, a
Dungeons & Dragons campaign, and visiting the Future Reality Lab.
• Currently planning and developing the second iteration of the camp,
including a host of new features, as well as a new curricular framework.
Boss Level: Transmedia RPG
Design
What is it?Boss Level was a week-long end-of-
semester workshop where middle
school students learned about
viruses and biology content by
creating role-playing games with
that content.
Students learned how to play and
create RPGs, and then worked in
collaborative groups to make their
own games. Each student had a
specialized role as they worked
together to create characters
enemies, and environments where
they interacted with science content.
Boss Level: Transmedia RPG
Design
• I created the curriculum and content for the
Boss Level, and developed a simplified RPG
system for students to use when creating
their games.
• I designed a student activity framework,
where each student took one of four roles to
foster teamwork, social learning, and
creativity.
• I led lessons and activities throughout the
week to guide students through the game
design and science learning processes.
• I iterated the design of the workshop across
three sessions, and helped author a
research paper based on our findings about
transmedia science learning.
