ATTENTION PET OWNERS! All Dog and Cat licenses expire annually

on December 31st and MUST be renewed

by January 31st each year.

Dogs must have a current rabies vaccination to renew or obtain a new license. Unless your dog(s) was vaccinated at the Fair Haven Rabies Clinic, a Certification of Rabies Vaccination from a veterinarian must accompany your license application. Rabies vaccinations must be renewed for 2020 if the vaccination expires prior to November 1, 2020. The license fee is $10 per dog if spayed/neutered and $13 if not. As a reminder, Borough Ordinance requires that any dog off the premises of the person owning it must be accompanied by a person and controlled by an adequate leash not more than six feet long. Dogs are not allowed to soil or damage any property

Cats seven months or older, or with permanent teeth, must be licensed annually. The fee is $7 for each cat that is spayed/neutered and $9 for each cat that is not. Please note that in order to renew or obtain a new license, your cat(s) must have a current rabies vaccination. Unless your cat(s) was vaccinated at the Fair Haven Rabies Clinic, a Certification of Rabies Vaccination from a veterinarian must accompany your license application. For your convenience, the 2020 Dog and Cat Registration form is available online or may be obtained at Borough Hall. A grace period for the license is granted until January 31, 2020 for receipt of payment and application. After that date, a $5.00 penalty will be assessed for each month late. Please make the payment in person, by mail or place it in the drop box, Borough Hall vestibule. A new license will be sent upon payment. We ask that you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of the license.

Bulk Disposal Service—Once a month, from January through October, Fair Haven residents may place bulk trash items at their curbside. The items will be picked up at no charge.

2020 Curbside Bulk Pick Up Schedule Trash Zones 1 & 2 will be have bulk pick-up on the first Monday of the month, from January through October. Trash Zones 3 & 4 will have bulk trash pick-up on the second Monday of the month, from January through October.

Please follow these very important guidelines: Bulk Pick-Up is only for residential properties All bulk items shall be placed behind the curb or edge of pavement and not in the

street. Appliance disposal will require prior scheduling through the main office (732-747-0241, ext.*219).

There will be a $15.00 fee for the appliance disposal sticker, which must be placed on the appliance. Refrigerator doors and large coolers must have the door or lid removed when placed at the curb.

E-waste disposal (TV, Computers, Game Stations, etc.) will require prior scheduling through the main office (732-747-0241, ext.*219). E-Waste items must be separate from other bulk items and please place smaller e-waste items in a separate container.

No trash bags or boxes of any kind will be accepted for bulk pick up. All metal items must be placed in a separate pile. Bulk pick up will be limited to what, in the opinion of the Director of Public Works, is a reasonable

amount of bulk, not to exceed what would fit into a small pickup truck. There will be no full basement cleanouts or whole house move outs.

No construction debris will be picked up, including: cabinets, flooring, plumbing fixtures, drywall, yard fencing or large swing sets.

There will not be bulk pick up during the months of November and December, so we can expedite leaf collection and street cleaning.

Dear Fair Haven Residents:

As I have said many times, the Borough’s Department of Public Works (DPW) provides many of the essential services that truly enhance the quality of life in Fair Haven. There is a good deal of important information in this calendar and I respectfully ask you to read through it carefully and please take note of the pickup schedules and the rules. Please keep in mind that we are simply trying to keep the Borough’s streets safe, clean, and generally free from debris, which is both environmentally friendly and esthetically pleasing. That goal is simply unattainable if some of our residents continue to brush and leaves to the curb, without any regard for when they are scheduled to be picked up. In the interest of community pride and environmental friendliness, we are asking for the cooperation of all residents, as we strive to deliver DPW services in an effective and efficient manner, while also keeping our streets as clean and safe as possible, all year long.

I thank you for your anticipated cooperation and welcome your suggestions for enhanced services throughout the year.

Best regards, Theresa S. Casagrande, Borough Administrator

T he Fair Haven Fire Company is an all volunteer organization that has a proud history of providing emergency services for the Borough of Fair Haven and surrounding communities. The Fire Company has grown over the years to include the Fire Department, First Aid Squad, Fire Police Unit, Water Rescue Team and Auxiliary that provide all aspects of emergency services.

The annual Fair Haven Fire Company Firemen’s Fair is the largest firemen’s fair in New Jersey. The firehouse grounds are transformed into blazing lights, sounds and activities! For future firefighters there is nothing like a ride on a real fire truck! Children are safely seated on one of Fair Haven’s first-line pumpers and taken on a ride around several blocks in Fair Haven. FOOD is one of the main attractions, with a sit-down dining room featuring all local specialties including seafood, burgers, hotdogs, cotton candy, just to name a few. In addition to being the Fire Company’s main fund-raising event, the Fair serves as an “end of summer” event for members of the Fire Company and other volunteers who pitch in to work at over 30 booths and other activities.

FAIR HAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME PREVENTION

Under our Crime Prevention Unit there are several programs designed to help keep our residents safe.

For more information on any of these programs, please contact Sergeant Sherri Lambert at 732-747-0241, extension *330 or [email protected].

MCGRUFF SAFE HOUSE: A McGruff Safe House is a temporary haven for children who find themselves in a frightening or dangerous situation. Each McGruff Safe House participant has a sign that is displayed in their window and agrees to help children who need assistance as they go to and from school and play in their neighborhood.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH: This is the first step for community organization against crime. The Neighborhood Watch Program is organized to enable the police and community to work together to make more areas free of crime and keep our children safe. Some of the benefits of Neighborhood Watch are free home security surveys done by the Police Department as well as informative presentations on topics such as identity theft, internet safety and other pertinent safety tips for back to school and holiday shopping.

WELL BEING CHECK PROGRAM: The Well Being Check Program is something the Police Department set up to check on our senior residents. The program is designed to let the seniors know that there is someone looking out for their well being, without taking away their independence.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: This nationwide event is a great night for friends and family members of the community to get together and get to know the officers of the Police Department.

SNOW & ICE REMOVAL The Borough of Fair Haven has approximately 54 miles of roads to plow as well as public facilities. Plowing generally begins when snow accu-mulation reaches two inches or sooner if the roads are determined by the Police Department to be hazardous.

SHOVELING Borough Code 14-6.2 states that no person shall sweep, throw or deposit any snow or ice in that part of the street which has been or is being plowed, swept or cleared by the municipality for the passage of traffic. One major problem comes when snow and ice are shov-eled or blown back onto the street after the road has been plowed. Snow that has been deposited onto the street could refreeze and cause a hazardous condition for you or your neighbors.

SIDEWALKS Property owners, tenants or occupants must clear the sidewalk in front of their property of all snow and/or ice within 24 hours after the end of the snowfall or the formation of ice. The path cleared must be a minimum of two feet in width (Ord. 14-6.1).

FIRE HYDRANTS If there is a fire hydrant in front of your home or business, please clear the snow around the hydrant.

ON-STREET PARKING Borough Code 7-10.1 states whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets and highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated. The parking prohibi-tions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traf-fic.

Please be patient. This is especially important during blizzards and extended storms when the Borough must stagger crew hours and are often needed

to assist the Police Department, Fire Department or First Aid with snow related accidents and emergencies.
