Where else can you witness the hand-shearing of sheep, as it was done in the past without using electricity? Celebrate spring at Born to Be Shorn, on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a NEW location, Fosterfi elds Living Historical Farm, Morris Township. Bring the entire family to a truly unique and fun experience. Meet the baby lambs, and watch as an expert sheep shearer skillfully gives each sheep its own ‘haircut’ to remove its woolen fl eece, which has grown thick since last spring.

Be amazed by the various steps that turn the cut fl eece into woolen fi bers and fashions. Watch as plain fl eece turns brilliant natural colors as it is dyed in a pot over an open fi re. Enjoy hands-on activities, such as weaving, spinning, or making a fi ber craft to take home. Make the day truly memorable with a tour of the Foster family home, The Willows, the 1854 Gothic revival-style mansion.

Admission for Born to Be Shorn is $8 per adult, $7 per senior (65+), and $6 per child age 3 -16, FREE per child age 3 & under, and Friends members are half-price with a current membership card.

For more information, please visit morrisparks.net, call 973.326.7645.

WORKERS ON THE FARM: 1900s Immigration Experience Imagine what it took to start a new life in a new country in the late-nineteenth and early twentieth century. Experience

a day in the life of immigrant farm workers and house servants who worked for the Foster family at Workers On the Farm: 1900’s Immigration Experience on Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Fosterfi elds Living Historical Farm in Morris Township.

Spend an exciting day, and learn about the ordinary people whose extraordinary American journeys led to their employment at Fosterfi elds farm. Compare the traditions and experiences of immigrant workers from different places, such as Ireland and England, as well as how their life experiences compared to the Fosters.

Spend the day as a farm worker, and lend a helping hand with planting, animal care, and other barnyard chores. Roll up your sleeves to weigh eggs, plant seeds in fl ats, and pump water, and learn the process of churning cream into butter. Stop by the Carriage House to assist ‘Andrew Gibbons,’ the coachman, with his chores, and chat with him about his job.

Listen to music and performances that celebrate Irish-American culture, and follow the enticing aromas to the Farmhouse kitchen to learn about Irish-American foods. In the cozy Farmhouse parlor, hear stories about the farm family’s journey from England. At 1 p.m., join the ceremony of sharing stories, poems, and music honoring the late-nineteenth and early 20th century immigrants who made signifi cant contributions to the development of Fosterfi elds.

In contrast to the Farmhouse, The Willows, is where the Fosters lived. Experience the Willows through the eyes of the servants, as actors portraying the servants will begin performances starting at 1:30 p.m. Become a servant, and help with various spring cleaning duties, such as washing laundry, beating rugs, stacking wood, and polishing silver.

At the Visitors Center, make a craft to remember your special day at Fosterfi elds, and meet with community representatives from cultural groups that display proud Irish-American heritage today. Learn about the reasons so many Irish found refuge in Morristown. Be sure to try out all of the fun interactive displays!

Admission is $8 per adult, $7 per senior (65+), $6 per child age 3 - 16, and FREE per child age 3 & under. Friends members are half price with a current membership card.
