• Died at the age of 90 and had 2 sons.

BIOGRAPHY

• In 1928, Hoover was nominated as the Republican candidate for president on the first ballot with Charles Curtis as his running mate.

• He approved "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the National Anthem.

• He was the President when the Great Depression took place.• He was the first President that was a millionaire.• President Hoover was one of two Presidents who did not

accept a salary for being President. He donated his salary to charity.

About Herbert Hoover

• In 1914, Hoover put other men in charge of his mining business and gave all his time to Belgian relief during World War I.

• After the crash, Herbert Hoover ordered federal departments to speed up construction projects, cut $160 million in taxes, and doubled the amount spent on public works.

• When the Hoovers wanted to speak privately while in the presence of White House guests, they spoke Chinese.

• In 1946 Hoover traveled to 38 countries, documented food needs, located surpluses, and arranged food shipments to countries in need.

• Only six of the 48 states voted for Hoover, and he was defeated by Roosevelt.
