Bottom-Line Love Impact for Living – by Scott and Nathan Whitiker
“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell …. nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. ROMANS 8:38 – 39 I saw a photograph a missionary took not too long ago of a beautiful little dark-haired, dark-eyed girl near her village in a Central American country. I heard about her brief life story up to that point – that her mother and father were gone, and she was bouncing around from relative to relative. Without a family to support, protect, and nurture her, you couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for her. It seems pretty bleak. As I looked at her picture and reflected upon millions of other children like her around the world who are alone and unloved, one thought kept penetrating my thinking: God loves her. But where is a family that can show her the tangible love she needs, to demonstrate to her in a real way that nothing can separate her from the love of God? No matter what we are going through, God loves us. No matter where we are or what is happening to us or around us, God’s love is always there for us. That’s an amazing, comforting, and absolute truth. But what about that little girl? Does she know it? What can we do to show her – and others like her – that love, day after day? There are those in ministry trying to demonstrate that love by providing food, clothing, and shelter, along with God’s love and His Word to children like that little girl in Central America. Missionaries trying to be family to others such as her. To show them what we know, that during those times when we feel unworthy or aren’t even seeking the Lord, He is there. Loving us. During those times of ultimate tragedy, heartache, disappointment, or despair, He is there, loving us, holding us. During those times when we are lost and have no idea what the next hour, let alone the next day, will bring – He is there, loving us, holding us, carrying us. I’ve been there, and so have you. And when you are in your better moments looking back, you can see that He was there. He is not a “here today and gone tomorrow” God. Thankfully, nothing can separate us from the love of God! Believe it – we are members of His family forever. Help others like that little girl to believe it too. UNCOMMON KEY- Everyone has been there – not knowing which way to turn or whom to turn to. Right now, take a moment to thank God that He is there in your certain times as well as the uncertain ones – loving you, holding you, and carrying you.” Comments from Father Bill In early January I was in Saint Paul, Minnesota attending two hockey games, involving my favorite team the Wild. Dinner both nights was at a tiny diner which opened in 1937 in New Jersey. Ownership decided to transport it to Minnesota a few years later, to the state of 10,000 lakes. Just oldies music was played in the backdrop. Two from the 1970’s were: “Walking In Rhythm“ by the Blackbyrds and “It’s A Shame“ by the Spinners, both melodies so pretty yet describing how heart-wrenching human love can be. Anyone who has had their heart raked by a breakup, as I have, knows well how tentative and conditional it can be. The essay conveys deeply that God has a level of love for all that no person can possibly match. In fact, pet owners may make the claim that their buddies manifest that heavenly love better than human beings can rival. Father Bill
