Fruit and Veg Month Last week we started our journey with fruit and vegetables. Students and parents are to be congratulated for their support of Fruit and Vegetable month with the wonderful variety of fruit and vegetables that are in lunch boxes. Students in K-1-2 have enjoyed trying Suma Citrus and Dragon Fruit as part of their classroom activities. We are looking forward to seeing the fruit and vegetable sculptures next week. Please remember to avoid including Kiwi fruit, Mango or Coconut.

Mrs Guisard and Mr Fogarty introduced the children to a new fruit ‘Sumo Citrus’ which is derived from a pomelo, naval Orange and mandarin. The students enjoyed the taste of this new fruit.

The Sumo Citrus mandarin/orange originated in Japan over forty years ago. (it is one of the largest mandarins) and its distinctive topknot, like a Sumo wrestler's. Now Australians can enjoy locally grown super sweet, easy to peel Sumo Citrus mandarins from August to September each year, the mandarin-orange hybrid is enormously good to eat! Student Individual Health Care Plans A reminder to families of students with health care needs that Individual Health Care Plans sent home in Week 5 and have not yet been returned to school are overdue.

Student Interviews with Mrs Campbell Mrs Campbell is interviewing students across the school for their views and thoughts on Borenore Public School and their aspirations beyond school.

Timothy What is the best thing about going to Borenore Public School? That I see my friends and I can play with them.

If you were Principal for the day what would you do? I would be crazy and buy whatever I want with the Principal card and eat snacks.

What do you want to do when you grow up? Be a pizza chef and pizza delivery man.

How would your teacher describe you? Tim is a smart little kid and he has excellent behaviour.

If you were an animal what would you be? A leopard because they can climb trees, run really fast and

they are strong so I will stay alive.

Jaxon What is the best thing about going to Borenore Public School? Lots of things to do and you can play with lots of friends.

If you were Principal for the day what would you do? Make everybody do maths for the whole day and I would be strict. If kids are naughty I will put them in a room full of spikes!

What do you want to do when you grow up? Be an Archaeologist because my favourite movie is ‘Indiana Jones’ and he is an archaeologist.

How would your teacher describe you? He is naughty in the classroom and wild and savage in the playground!

If you were an animal what would you be? A Kraken (a legendary sea monster that looks a bit like a giant octopus) because I will be the only one of my species and I can do whatever I want.

Brianna What is the best thing about going to Borenore Public School? I like seeing my friends and getting my work finished fast. I love my teachers.

If you were Principal for the day what would you do? I would have a little less work but the same kind of work and I would have free time for kids that finish their work.

What do you want to do when you grow up? I want to be a lawyer because I am quite good at arguing and it pays well.

How would your teacher describe you? If she is focused she works quickly but sometimes she can be noisy.

If you were an animal what would you be? A monkey because I would be able to have 4 hands instead of

2 feet and I could hang upside down. I could write with my feet!

Hot Chocolate Day Hot Chocolate Day will be this Friday and not next week.

Being Sun Smart Now that the weather is warming up it is important for students to wear their hats when outdoors. The skin on your face, neck and ears is much thinner and more sensitive to UV damage than the rest of your body. It needs more protection than sunscreen. Our school hats comply with the cancer councils recommendations of:

A hat with a brim of 7.5cm shades the face, ears and neck and can prevent more than 50% of UV rays reaching the eyes.

Darker colours absorb UV rays better than white or pastel colours of the same fabric.

Kind Regards Mel, Debbie, Melissa and staff
