Objective: Design a wellness center for under privileged women and children in the Indianapolis, IN area. Inspiring designs are the visual drivers that help fuel the incoming clients to continue and succeed at their journey in self-improvement. The center provides services to promote physical activity, healthy eating, mental health, and education.

Concept: Tree houses have been a place of healing and refuge for centuries. Re-creating that natural feeling of comfort in the wellness center lays a foundation for patrons to build upon in their progression. Whimsical adaptations of structures found in nature are applied throughout the center encouraging exploration. Willow saplings, stacked wood, and canvas bring in the textures of the forest. The multitude of windows and skylights in the structure poor in light and directly connect the indoor and outdoor atmospheres. Bright and lively colors give the space and active edge on simple contemporary furniture. The hard work accomplished inside feels like play with the fresh and intriguing design of the center.

Objective: For an actual company in West Lafayette that was looking for ideas. Update the existing headquarters for a pharmaceuticals testing company. The company was going through many changes and was looking to re-brand and promote the credibility of their techniques. Budget consideration was very important.

Concept: The combination of technology and organics found in the company’s processes drove the design. A mixture of high-tech glossy and rough irregular materials mimic the elements in science. The complimentary blue and orange of the logo is pulled directly from nature and used as a branding technique throughout the facility.

3. Installation of collapsible bleachers provides fun seating for the informal company meetings once a month. The system reduces wasted space for chair storage and setup time.

2. The arced carpet tile serves as a stage for whomever is speaking. The carpet directs viewers to the speaker and the whiteboard panels on the folding wall behind.

Hallway elevation with the cell structure like screens that hang in front of the walls and windows. The color coded door surrounds signify different departments and areas throughout the building.

1. The indoor garden livens up the space and provides fresh air in the lobby. The plant textures also help to soften the noise reflect off the hard surfaces.

4. This collaborative space was important to the client, they wanted to encourage their employees to work together and think freely. The multiple groupings and technologies form a fun and creative space for ideation.

Concept: Accustomed to more arctic climates, Burton Snowboards is opening a new research and development facility in Ventura, California. The aesthetic represents the great transition for the company with the idea of sun and snow. Bright warm colors found in the California sunshine liven up the arctic white office. A mixture of materials such as sleek glass and rustic wood represent the fusion of Vermont and California ideas. There is an essence of outside versus inside within the space because of the relation of the warmer home-like private spaces amongst the breezy open office space and cafe. Low height furniture and glass walls bring in the sunlight adding another dimension to the office. The bold design inspires the creativity that fuels the development of the great products Burton is known for.

Objective: Design a research and design office for Burton Snowboards in Ventura, California that reflects their Headquarters in Vermont as well as incorporate the essence of California. Burton is an innovative company, create active and adaptive spaces for collaboration. The company loves bringing in people to tour their facilities. Thought to what should be seen and what should not is very important as well as noise control. Branding is essential in this project, Burton is very proud of their heritage and has history walls in all of it’s offices. A space to share this information and host large groups of people is important.

Tapered base adds a weightless detail and reduces the footprint.

Simple cut-out pulls provide customers access into the drawers for purchasable products.

Illuminated glass top displays only the testers to eliminate excess clutter.

The specialty product gondola stands out as being the only round shape.

Metallic bronze legs in their repetitious pattern come forth from the stark black and white space.

Smoke glass tops add drama and emphasize the products.

Modularity and simplicity inspired the wall system.

The panels and drawers hang off the beveled black wood squares.

This makes the entire wall completely adjustable and allows for easy swapping of stock by just removing a panel to refill or relocate.

Objective 1: Create a creative new look for the Sephora store model while still incorporating the traditional color palette and branding elements. Develop methods to improve store performance and integrate technology.

Objective 2: Create new gondolas to store and showcase the products for purchase. Design to reduce the cluttered and overwhelming look of makeup departments.

Low gondolas in the middle of the space facilitate a clear view across the store. Illuminated stone textured panels stand out as the focal point from the entrance inviting customers in. Bronze gondolas for promotional products contrast against the sparkling white terrazzo floors directing the attention of buyers to the hot trends. The tall black pillars house Sephora’s perfect match makeup technology on Ipads as well as designate the customer service center. Minimal checkout space is provided because of the added checkout feature on the Ipads that associates are encouraged to use throughout the store. Also within the hub, the centrally located beauty bars offer some privacy away from other shoppers while still having access to all elements of the store.

Concept: My biggest goal was to recreate the sense of community that can be lost after a natural disaster, both physically and metaphorically. Utilizing concepts from park planning, I created large communal spaces encompassed with smaller private dwellings. The family “pods” connect together to form the open community spaces with the warehouse that each have their own identity and purpose. Organic fabric patterns, wood textures, and vibrant colors support the park feel. To reduce the feeling of exposure, sail like canopies hang to create an interesting ceiling at a more comfortable height in the common spaces.

Page 13: Boose Interior Design Portfolio

Concept: Inspired by chic minimalistic boutiques like Chanel, I incorporated quality woods, metals, and stone with streamlined design to create a high-end experience for the customer. A galley layout draws customers to the back of the store to browse the entire selection. Sephora’s modern black and white palette is warmed up with rich creams and bronzes of the stone panels and metal supports employed. Velvety black walls ground the space and contrast the pop of the product’s color. The simple lines of the design bring forth the vibrancy of the products rather than overtake the space. Defined areas for products by their use and brand make the store easy to navigate.

Objective: Create a shelter system that can be quickly shipped and assembled in a building like a warehouse for families after a natural disaster. Make the space accessible for visiting community members and volunteers.

The small yet efficient pod provides a private bath per family as well as connecting to 4 family pods to provide structural stability.

The separate “wings” of the pod designates the sleeping areas and creates more privacy while keeping floor space open.

Limiting the size of the private spaces, allowed for more open and usable spaces for everyone. The pods create designated common spaces without wasting square footage.

- To maximize efficiency in the space every piece of furniture is custom built for the space.

- In longterm shelters storage is a major issue. I incorporated in every piece of furniture to house salvaged possessions and items collected as the people rebuilt their lives.

- The cool colors within the pod are calming and happy to provide a comfortable resting place for survivors of such trauma.

- Area to display personal pieces allows the users to connect with space and make it their own.

- The tree graphic ties with the park concept and creates interest with it’s pop art quality and varying textures.

- Wood textures in the furnishings gives warmth and character to the space.

A warmer and more vibrant color palette in the community area encourages action within the space.

Vertical light fixtures integrated to the exterior of the pods illuminate the community spaces underneath the canopies and add height.
