Created by Leslie and Alvin. Directed by Amy. JENNY DONOVAN (Rachel) is delighted to be part of the Cinder-Rachella ensemble! She is a proud graduate of The Catholic University of America with her BA in Drama. Theatre credits include: National Players: A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Imagination Stage: Mouse on the Move; Washington Rogues: In the Forest, She Grew Fangs; Quotidian Theatre: The Birds; Olney Theatre Center: Witness for the Prosecution; Rorschach Theatre: A Maze; Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre: Peter Pan; Keegan Theatre: The Graduate. IDO RAKOVSKY (David) was born and raised in an agricultural kibbutz in Israel, playing soccer and basketball. While working with teenagers in after-school programs in Israel, and in the Jewish-American summer camp world during the past few years, Ido also acted in performances in the kibbutz's holidays celebrations. He is currently the Jewish Agency Shaliach (emissary) to the JCCNV. CHARLIE RETZLAFF (Ido) is happy to be in his first production with JCCNV playing the buddy to the "Prince.” Former favorite buddy roles include Toad in A Year with Frog and Toad, Le Fou in Beauty and the Beast, and Harold in Bunnicula. Charlie received his BA in Theatre Art from Concordia College, MN and is a graduate of the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory. Thanks go out to friends and family for their support – physical, spiritual and (of course) financial! MANOLO SANTALLA (Beggar) is excited to be working with playwright Leslie Kobylisnki who directed him in Parfumerie at 1 st Stage. Recent stage credits include: Commodore Roseabove in Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma'sHung You In The Closet And I'm Feelin' So Sad with The American Century Theatre; Hugo Kalmar in The Iceman Cometh with Quotidian Theatre Company; and Prospero in The Tempest with PG County’s Shakespeare in the Park 2013. Upcoming: A Midsummer Night’s Dream with PG County’s Shakespeare in the Park 2014. AMANDA SPELLMAN (Hulda) is very pleased to be back working with the JCCNV Performing Arts Series, as she was last seen in Can I Really Date a Guy Who Wears a Yarmulke? Past credits include Cabaret (Sally), Seussical (Mayzie La Bird) and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (Pippi). Education: BA Theatre and Dance from James Madison University. Big hugs to Mom, Dad and Rachel! ERIN WAGNER (Mitzi) is thrilled to be part of this production. Previous credits include Mairead in the Lieutenant of Inishmore (DC Metro Theatre Arts Favorite Actresses of 2013 List) and the London Olympics Closing Ceremony. Erin holds a BA in Theatre from Cornell University and an MA in Shakespeare from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and King’s College London. Upcoming productions include Everyone’s a Critic at Flashpoint and Measure for Measure with the Baltimore Shakespeare Factory. Creative & Production LESLIE A. KOBYLINSKI (Playwright; Producing Partner) is the Artistic Director of First Draft, dedicated to developing new plays alongside audiences, supporting local artists and partnering with theaters looking to produce new work. Leslie made her playwriting debut with The Director: The Third Act of Elia Kazan (Round House Theater) featuring Helen Hayes Award winner Rick Foucheux. A DC native, Leslie has overseen the development of over 30 new plays and guest directed over a dozen professional productions including the JCCNV’s 2012 production of Clever Rachel. She gives special thanks to Jeff Dannick, Yael Ingel and Dan Kirsch for their faith and encouragement. ALVIN SMITHSON (Composer; Accompanist) is a DC pianist, composer, arranger, musical director and teacher. He is the composer of several musicals, including What Kind of Love, Red Suspenders, Mooin Bear Child, a children's musical, and was the arranger for Astra, Super Heroine Manga Musical, written by Jerry Robinson and Sidra Rausch. He was one of the original musical collaborators and performers in the award-winning musical, Danny and Sylvia, at The American Century Theater. His upcoming album will feature new songs for piano and Indian flute as well as selections from his musicals. AMY McWILLIAMS (Director) Previous turns in the director’s chair include On the Verge, Pump Boys and Dinettes and Violet, all with Keegan Theatre. Better known for her work on stage, Amy’s DC appearances include Arena Stage: Good People; Signature Theatre:The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Brother Russia, Les Miserables (Helen Hayes Award, Best Ensemble), The Happy Time, Witches of Eastwick, Nevermore, In the Garden, Working, The Fix, Cabaret and Wall of Water. Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company: Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play, Maria/Stuart and Rocket to the Moon. She has also appeared at Ford’s Theatre in Violet, The Laramie Project, A Christmas Carol, Meet John Doe, Grapes of Wrath and Inherit the Wind, and at The Kennedy Center in Sunday in the Park with George, Merrily We Roll Along and A Streetcar Named Desire. Other local appearances include Theatre J, Round House Theatre, Forum Theatre, Theatre Alliance, Imagination Stage and the Kennedy Center Family Theatre. RICHARD WASHER (Dramaturg) is a playwright, director and dramaturge. He was a founding member of Charter Theater and Playwright in Residence for First Draft (2010-11 season). Productions of his work include Of a Sunday Morning (Charter Theater), Monkeyboy (with Keith Bridges and Chris Stezin; Charter), The Chicken of the Family (a children’s musical, with author Mary Amato; Charter), and Quartet (Hamner Theatre). He enjoys teaching and leads playwriting workshops at the Writer’s Center as well as at other institutions. Richard holds a BA in Music and Anthropology from the University of Virginia, and a MFA in Creative Writing from The American University. YAEL INGEL (JCCNV lsrael Consultant) Yael was born in Israel, on a kibbutz near Haifa, Hazorea and currently resides in Binyamina. Yael served in the army as an officer in the departments for the rehabilitation of disabled IDF veterans and for bereaved families. She attended Hebrew University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Between 2011-2013. Yael was the JCCNV Israeli Shlicha (Emissary), bringing Israel to the Jewish community. The JCCNV is a part of the Shlichut program since 2007. Like her predecessors, Yael engaged herself in the community, educating about Israel and connecting people to it. Yael’s interest in Israeli culture was always a part of her and her work in the community. MARGIE JERVIS (Scene Designer) Margie is the resident Scenic, Costume and Puppet Designer for Creative Cauldron of Falls Church, and is a Teaching Artist for their educational programs for children. Other Design credits: the Washington National Opera's young people's outreach works, Thunder of Horses and Enchantment of Dreams; Ashlawn Opera in Charlottesville: Barber of Seville, The King and I, and Wild Animals for Magic Flute. Margie is on the advisory board of “Uprooted Dance” and designed for their work Go!, performed at the Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage. She is a 2010 Strauss Fellowship recipient from the Arts Council of Fairfax County. CHRIS DALEN (Costumer) With his dance background, Chris is known for creating costumes and apparel that move. He has costumed productions that appeared on stage at The Kennedy Center, Broadway, in San Francisco, Dallas, Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Paris. Most recently he worked on the costumes for National tours of Porgy and Bess, Les Miserables, Billy Elliot and Wicked. He designs and builds costumes for local dance companies Arachne Aerial Artists and The Playground, as well as George Mason University and American University. ELLIOT LANES (Production Stage Manager/Sound Designer) Recent area credits include Normal for Molotov Theatre Group, Our Suburb and The Admission at Theater J and Circle Mirror Transformation at PGCC. For six years each he was the Resident PSM for Negro Ensemble Company and White Horse Theatre Company in NYC. He has worked with the likes of Liza Minnelli and Betty Buckley on the Backstage Bistro Awards and his work has also been seen at NYC's New Perspectives Theatre Company. For Jen P. "Married almost four years and will always be the girl of my dreams." JEFF DANNICK (JCCNV Executive Director) As the JCCNV’s Executive Director, Jeff combines his love for Israel and for Jewish culture and traditions; his commitment to education; his belief in the importance of fitness — physical, mental and spiritual; and his expertise in management and fundraising, to help bring the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia to new heights. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree in performing arts/theatre with a minor in business administration from Alfred University, and earning his Master’s Degree in arts administration and an MBA from Southern Methodist University, he pursued a twenty year career in theatre administration. Prior to joining the Center, Jeff served as the Executive Director of the Israel Children’s Centers, the American fundraising organization which supports the Israel Tennis Centers. DAN KIRSCH (JCCNV Cultural Arts Director) Dan joined the JCCNV in January 2012 after a six-year stint as Executive & Artistic Director of Diversionary Theatre, San Diego’s LGBT Theatre. His work at the JCCNV includes programming, fundraising and marketing for music, theatre, dance, film and literary and visual arts programs. At Diversionary, he commissioned and directed the premiere of the Harvey Milk tribute play Dear Harvey by Patricia Loughrey and Thomas Hodges, also directing the play at the 2010 FringeNYC Festival.
