Upon receipt of your signed reservation form and deposit, we will, subject to availability, reserve your spot on the tour. You may consider your booking confirmed when you receive a confirmation notice and invoice from us.

RATES: Rates are based on the minimum of 10 guests as outlined in this document, plus airfare costs, currency exchange rates, and other factors and are subject to change. Dr. Cin-Ty LeeProfessor and Department Chair of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Science from Rice University

Cin-Ty Lee is one of 173 scholars, artists and scientists — and the only Earth scientist — chosen as a 2017 Guggenheim Fellow. Lee joined Rice in 2002 and is a professor and chair of the Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences Department. He studies the compositions of rocks to reconstruct how Earth’s interior, surface, atmosphere and life have evolved over time. Lee is also a world-renowned field ornithologist who spends much of his spare time painting birds and traveling the world in search of birds.

DAY 1 ~ KOTA KINABALUKOTA KINABALU MARRIOTT HOTEL. (Meals Aloft, D)Arrive in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah. The rest of your day is at leisure to enjoy the amenities of your hotel or explore the city on your own. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner.

DAY 2 ~ KOTA KINABALU/SANDAKAN/SIM SIM WATER VILLAGESEPILOK NATURE RESORT. (B,D)Fly to Sandakan. En route to your hotel, enjoy a visit to Sandakan Market, where the locals come to buy fresh produce, fruits, delicacies, and crafts. Your next stop is Sim Sim Water Village, built on stilts and reachable by plank walkways. Learn about the lives of some of the local fishermen families, their neat wooden houses, and their daily activities.

DAY 3 ~ SANDAKAN ~ LABUK BAY/SUN BEAR CONSERVATION CENTER/SEPILOK ORANGUTAN REHABILITATION CENTERSEPILOK NATURE RESORT. (B,L,D) After breakfast, head to the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. This is a fantastic place to see one of the most distinctive and unusual inhabitants of Borneo – the proboscis monkey. Then, visit another endangered mammal at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Here, rescued sun bears are housed and cared for in a natural setting, with the goal to re-release them back into a healthy forest. Your final stop for today is the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Here, the orangutans undergo a three-step process to learn to integrate socially and independently with the wild population of the forest.

DAY 4 ~ SEPILOK ORANGUTAN CENTER/SUKAUBORNEO NATURE LODGE. (B,L,D)Return to the Orangutan Center for a morning feeding with these magnificent animals and proceed to Sukau village. Relax by the river before embarking on a boat excursion along Kinabatangan, Sabah’s longest river, with an opportunity to view wildlife and birds in the virgin mangrove and rainforest habitat. Search for some of the primate species, including proboscis monkeys as they settle down on treetops.

DAYS 5/6 ~ SUKAU/OX BOW LAKEBORNEO NATURE LODGE. (B,L,D Daily)Enjoy two dynamic and relaxing river cruises on the Kinabatangan River, which is brimming with excellent wildlife viewing both in the water and on the banks. After dinner, board a night safari cruise to try and spot nocturnal mammals, crocodiles, and birds. Next day, experience the early morning ambience of the longest river in Sabah. Oxbow Lake is a crescent shaped body of water lying alongside the Kinabatangan River. Later in the morning, enjoy a special treat sharing tea at one of the village houses.

This is an opportunity to interact with the host and try your hand at playing a local musical instrument. After a tour of the village and a short jungle walk along the lake, return to the lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon depart on another river cruise to observe the flora and fauna of the area.

DAYS 7/8 ~ SUKAU/DANUM VALLEYBORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE. (B,L,D Daily)Your drive takes you to Borneo Rainforest Lodge, located in Sabah’s largest protected lowland forest, Danum Valley Conservation Area, comprised of 108,230 acres of pristine virgin rain forest. Danum Valley supports one of the largest remaining populations of wild orangutans. Next day, trek along the “coffin trail” to an ancient Kadazandusun burial site at Coffin Cliff. Climb 40 minutes to a magnificent lookout point for a bird’s eye view over the Danum Valley and the Borneo lowland forest, and then return to your lodge for lunch. Go water tubing for an hour in the Danum River or trekking along the Segama River (optional activities). In the evening, if weather permits, enjoy a night walk around the lodge in search of nocturnal animals.

DAY 9 ~ DANUM VALLEYBORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE. (B,L,D)In the morning, hike the Serpent Trail and Fairy Trail in search of wildlife. In the afternoon, take another walk on one of your favorite trails in search of more wildlife. After dinner, you will have an option of a night walk or drive (subject to space availability on the vehicles). This evening, join your group for a farewell dinner.

DAY 10 ~ DANUM VALLEY/KOTA KINABALU(B, Meals Aloft)Enjoy your morning at leisure before transferring to Lahad Datu airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. Here, you connect with your flights home, bringing with you the wonderful memories of this exotic destination.

This is a fantastic place to see one of the most distinctive and unusual inhabitants of Borneo – the proboscis monkey. Then, visit another endangered mammal at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Here, rescued sun bears are housed and cared for in a natural setting, with the goal to re-release them back into a healthy forest. Your final stop for today is the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Here, the orangutans undergo a three-step process to learn to integrate socially and independently with the wild population of the forest.

DAY 4 ~ SEPILOK ORANGUTAN CENTER/SUKAUBORNEO NATURE LODGE. (B,L,D)Return to the Orangutan Center for a morning feeding with these magnificent animals and proceed to Sukau village. Relax by the river before embarking on a boat excursion along Kinabatangan, Sabah’s longest river, with an opportunity to view wildlife and birds in the virgin mangrove and rainforest habitat. Search for some of the primate species, including proboscis monkeys as they settle down on treetops.

DAYS 5/6 ~ SUKAU/OX BOW LAKEBORNEO NATURE LODGE. (B,L,D Daily)Enjoy two dynamic and relaxing river cruises on the Kinabatangan River, which is brimming with excellent wildlife viewing both in the water and on the banks. After dinner, board a night safari cruise to try and spot nocturnal mammals, crocodiles, and birds. Next day, experience the early morning ambience of the longest river in Sabah. Oxbow Lake is a crescent shaped body of water lying alongside the Kinabatangan River. Later in the morning, enjoy a special treat sharing tea at one of the village houses.

This is an opportunity to interact with the host and try your hand at playing a local musical instrument. After a tour of the village and a short jungle walk along the lake, return to the lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon depart on another river cruise to observe the flora and fauna of the area.

DAYS 7/8 ~ SUKAU/DANUM VALLEYBORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE. (B,L,D Daily)Your drive takes you to Borneo Rainforest Lodge, located in Sabah’s largest protected lowland forest, Danum Valley Conservation Area, comprised of 108,230 acres of pristine virgin rain forest. Danum Valley supports one of the largest remaining populations of wild orangutans. Next day, trek along the “coffin trail” to an ancient Kadazandusun burial site at Coffin Cliff. Climb 40 minutes to a magnificent lookout point for a bird’s eye view over the Danum Valley and the Borneo lowland forest, and then return to your lodge for lunch. Go water tubing for an hour in the Danum River or trekking along the Segama River (optional activities). In the evening, if weather permits, enjoy a night walk around the lodge in search of nocturnal animals.

DAY 9 ~ DANUM VALLEYBORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE. (B,L,D)In the morning, hike the Serpent Trail and Fairy Trail in search of wildlife. In the afternoon, take another walk on one of your favorite trails in search of more wildlife. After dinner, you will have an option of a night walk or drive (subject to space availability on the vehicles). This evening, join your group for a farewell dinner.

Dr. Cin-Ty LeeProfessor and Department Chair of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Science from Rice University

Cin-Ty Lee is one of 173 scholars, artists and scientists — and the only Earth scientist — chosen as a 2017 Guggenheim Fellow. Lee joined Rice in 2002 and is a professor and chair of the Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences Department. He studies the compositions of rocks to reconstruct how Earth’s interior, surface, atmosphere and life have evolved over time. Lee is also a world-renowned field ornithologist who spends much of his spare time painting birds and traveling the world in search of birds.

En route to your hotel, enjoy a visit to Sandakan Market, where the locals come to buy fresh produce, fruits, delicacies, and crafts. Your next stop is Sim Sim Water Village, built on stilts and reachable by plank walkways. RATES: Rates are based on the minimum of 10 guests as outlined in this document, plus airfare costs, currency exchange rates, and other factors and are subject to change. HOW TO BOOK: Fill out and sign the enclosed reservation form and send it, along with the relevant deposit of $1,800 per person for the main trip and $600 for each extension, to: Classic Escapes Inc. 58-25 Queens Blvd., Woodside NY, 11377. Upon receipt of your signed reservation form and deposit, we will, subject to availability, reserve your spot on the tour. You may consider your booking confirmed when you receive a confirmation notice and invoice from us.

RATES: Rates are based on the minimum of 10 guests as outlined in this document, plus airfare costs, currency exchange rates, and other factors and are subject to change. Classic Escapes reserves the right to assess a surcharge if the minimum is not met, or if increases are forced upon us by airlines or other partners or because of changes in currency exchange rates.

INSURANCE: It is a condition of booking that the sole responsibility lies with the guest to ensure that they carry the correct comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover themselves, as well as any dependents /traveling companions for the duration of their trip. Classic Escapes, including their representatives, employees and agents will take no responsibility for any costs, losses incurred or suffered by the guest, or guest’s dependents or traveling companions.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Neither Classic Escapes (the Company) nor any person or agent acting for, through or on behalf of the Company shall be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever arising from any cause whatsoever, and without restricting the

generality of the aforegoing shall particularly not be responsible for loss or damage arising from any errors or omissions contained in its brochure or other literature, as well as loss or damage caused by delays, sickness, theft, injury or death. In addition the Company shall have the right at any time at its discretion to cancel any trip or the remainder thereof or make any alteration in route, accommodation, price or other details and, in the event of any trip being rendered impossible, illegal or inadvisable by weather, strike, war, government or interference or any other cause whatsoever, the extra expenses incurred as a result thereof shall be the responsibility of the passenger. The Company may at its discretion and without liability or cost to itself at any time cancel or terminate the guest’s booking, and in particular without limiting the generality of the aforegoing it shall be entitled to do so in the event of the illness or the illegal or incompatible behavior of the guest, who shall in such circumstances not be entitled to any refund.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: You must be in good physical and mental health. It shall be your duty to inform us in case you have any medical condition that may affect your ability to enjoy and pursue fully the services of Classic Escapes. By registering for a Classic Escapes service/program, you certify that you do not have any mental, physical, or other condition or disability that would create a hazard for yourself or others.

CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations are only effective on receipt of written notification. The following per person fees are applicable on this tour:• Up to April 27, 2020, $300 per person administrative fee, plus $500

non-refundable deposits given to overseas suppliers.• April 28 to May 7, 2020, deposit is forfeited.• May 8 to May 17, 2020 less 75% of tour cost.• After May 17, 2020, no refund is possible.

These cancellation fees are also in addition to any fees imposed by airlines.
