• The men knew when the King would be at the Houses of Parliament in London.

• They decided to fill the cellars below with barrels of gunpowder and blow the Houses of Parliament up.

Guy Fawkes

• One of the men was called Guy Fawkes.

5th November

• On the 5th November when Guy Fawkes was looking after the barrels and waiting to light the fuse he was found by the guards.

• King James was so pleased he hadn’t been blown up that he said there should be bonfires every year.

• People make models of Guy Fawkes and put on top of the bonfires to burn

Fireworks!

• Fireworks are set off to celebrate.

Page 11: Bonfire Night

• Keep fireworks in a closed box. 

• Stand well back.

• Never go near a firework that has been lit.

Even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still explode.

• Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them.

• Children should always be supervised by an adult around

fireworks.

• Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.

Put sparklers in a bucket of water to make sure they are out!

• Never give sparklers to a child under five.

• Keep pets indoors.
