of Sphinx. !roughout that summer while he lived in the chapter house, he interned with the city manager of Manhattan. “Growing up, my parents instilled in me a passion for giving back to our community and serving others,” Spriggs said. “My involvement at K-State, within Delta Sig and in the Manhattan community is simply my way of living out this passion to serve, and I am tremendously thankful to my brothers at AY who have made these experiences possible.”On March 2, just %ve days before the general election, Nate Spriggs was selected by AIPAC, a public advocacy

group, to attend its annual policy conference in the nation’s capital. Spriggs said it was a privilege to participate in a gathering of leaders as they shared ideas on preventing a nuclear war. “At AIPAC, I had the opportunity to meet with fellow student leaders from across the country and engage in conversations about issues facing our global community today,” he said. “AIPAC represents a forum where people from di#erent backgrounds get together and exchange views through healthy, civil debate.”

!e College of Business Administration brought John P. Bilbrey, president and CEO of Hershey Co., to campus February 13, 2012, to speak for its Distinguished Lecture Series. !e event, sponsored by Commerce Bank and the William T. Kemper Foundation, was open to students and the public. Bilbrey, a successful business professional, discussed his career experiences and gave his insights for success. Before the presentation, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Dr. Pat Bosco, AY 1970, hosted a breakfast for the accomplished Delta Sig alum and eight Delta Sig undergraduates. !e undergraduates are all campus leaders, and several are members of the K-State Student Foundation. Part of Bilbrey’s advice to the younger Delta Sigs was to take opportunities to visit other countries and learn their cultures. Before he was named to the top position at Hershey, he worked in more than 50 nations in North America, Latin America, North Africa and Asia. He is now guiding the expansion of Hershey’s overseas markets, particularly in India, China and Mexico. John, referred to as J.P. at Hershey, was initiated into the bonds of Delta Sigma Phi at K-State in 1976, and enjoyed his years

in the chapter. He is a past member of the Business Advisory Council of the College of Business Administration and was named a Fellow of the College. He now resides in Hershey, Pennsylvania where the company, a world leader in the candy industry, has its headquarters.

Nate Spriggs Re-Elected as Student Body President PURCHASE OFADJACENT LOTSIn a special achievement of unity, our loyal alumni rose to the challenge and contributed more than $170,000 to secure Alpha Upsilon’s future. With that down payment, our alumni housing corporation purchased the two lots west of us at 1124-1126 Fremont Street. !e closing was Nov. 30, 2012, creating a historic moment for Delta Sigma Phi. A true joint e#ort, 100 alumni members donated, each proving his gratitude for the bene%ts we all gained from our fraternity. !e additional land is the basis of our long-term plan to keep our chapter 'ourishing along Fremont, helping us nurture and mature many more generations of the best K-State men.We express gratitude for this outstanding support for the ideals and bonds of our fraternity. Stop by the chapter house, where you lived as a student, and meet the undergraduates, tell them about your experience and get a tour of the house.

For decades, Kansas State University has been widely acknowledged to have perhaps the most positive and e#ective Greek-letter system among U.S. colleges. Encouraged by the university’s administration, fraternities and sororities thrive on our campus. According to the Greek A#airs o"ce, 81 percent of these groups have won national awards for excellence, and 10 of them have been selected as the best chapter within their national organization. Some of them have won that honor several times. Considering the other outstanding Greek-letter societies on campus, Delta Sigma Phi takes special pride in the latest award from K-State, the President’s Award for Fraternal Excellence. A relatively recent distinction, the award is granted to the top all-around chapters on campus. !is year, just three of the 24 IFC fraternities received the honor. We were also honored in 2012 with another Pyramid of Excellence, the highest award granted by our national fraternity to a chapter, previously won in 2006 and 2010. Furthermore, the chapter brought home the 2012 Greek Week championship. Working with four other fraternal

groups, Delta Sig participated in a variety of athletic and talent-based competitions. In addition to student body president, we have seven student senators, including both College of Architecture senators. Ten members volunteer as orientation leaders or counselors for incoming freshmen. Eight Delta Sigs are members of KSU Student Foundation, and three of its %ve executive o"cers are Delta Sigs. We also have the two co-chairs of the Union Program Council. !ese members, plus many other Alpha Upsilon leaders of student groups, give us widespread representation in what many consider the three major campus organizations: student government, the student foundation and Union Program Council. In addition to the auxiliary activities of athletics, social events, campus leadership, and community service, we concentrate on individual leadership development and academic success. As a result, our chapter earned a 3.17 grade point average for the spring semester.
