Two piano books to play children's favourite rhymes!

Each title contains 6 famous tunes children can listen to and try to play on the keyboard.

A booklet features an introduction to the 9-key piano and the music scale, as well as the lyrics of the 6 tunes to sing along to.

40 Revolutionary InventionsMen have always invented things. Some inventors, such as Gutenberg or Volta, have become famous, but many more will remain anonymous forever. The 40 major inventions collected here are also a way to recount the history of mankind, as all of them have marked a turning point: fire allowed socialization, the wheel led to the development of agriculture and trade, and we still make a daily use of the electric battery, which was invented in the 18th century!

All Alike? Fashion & LibertyIs fashion temporary or timeless, superficial or transgressive? “Fashion is spoken by all and unknown to all.” (Roland Barthes). So, what is fashion exactly? A social phenomenon, an attitude, an industry or an art? Is it necessary to mimic someone else to integrate yourself or is it better to singularize yourself? A language under constant strain, fashion mostly reflects what we are, our strength as well as our weaknesses.

by Philippe CABESTAN, ill. by ALFRED

Who Am I?Identity: a quest for everyone. Is it enough or necessary to know the name of a man, his origin, his past actions to know who he is? Wondering “who am I”, it is also wondering what makes our uniqueness and discovering what makes us remain the same throughout time and beyond life circumstances. Far from being a closed system, identity is eminently paradoxical, open and flexible. I am no longer who I was, but I remain the one I was.

sauvage domestique

A thought-provoking book on the captivating theme of hair, beautifully enhanced by an up-and-coming illustrator.

More than just a component of our anatomy, hair (head or body) is also a social marker, used by men and women to claim their belonging to a social or political movement, a religion or a trend. It can also become the exterior sign of a demand or a punishment. What is a hair made of? What is its life expectancy? Where does its colour come from? Science answers these questions, but this book goes beyond with twelve thematic chapters presenting a thorough and global approach through varied areas such as history, gender, anthropology, politics, fashion and art.

The Night of the Animals by René METTLER • 48 pages • 220 x 340mm • 4+ • 19.90€

A spectacular picture book to observe animals in the forest from dusk to dawn.

Evening has come. The swallows are flying to their nest, the blackbird is singing, while the moth reveals its surprising colours… Later at night, the bat appears, along with the owl, the stone marten, the wild boars, the wildcat, the snail, the fox…

When dawn comes, it is time for the night animals to hide again, and for others to wake up: you can now hear the toad and watch the deer! With beautiful naturalist illustrations, René Mettler invites readers of all ages to wonder at the diversity of animals. The six final spreads provide information about the animals met in the story.

Norman Has No Superpower by Kamel BENAOUDA

An inventive and humorous parody, that combines school life and action, but also a subtil praise of the ordinary: no need to be Superman to live an adventurous life!

Usually, in superpower stories, everyone is ordinary, except the one gifted with a super power, such as Batman or Spiderman. This novel is the other way around: everyone has a gift, sometimes a spectacular one, sometimes a painful or ridiculous one. Except for Norman, who has none. And the day comes when he has to pass the test supposed to reveal his superpower...

In order to preserve his quiet life and avoid disappointing his family, he is going to cheat with the help of a few schoolmates: Agathe (gift: telepathy), Franck (gift: manipulating computers with his mind), Jibril (gift: perceiving imperfections and anomalies) and Méli (gift: flying).

This fanciful novel is not only entertaining: the disarray and lack of self-confidence of the young hero moves the reader, and emotion sometimes takes over. Like most teenagers, Norman has to find his place, and the strong support of his friends is precious.322 pages • 10+ • Rights sold: Ru

The Monster’s Daughter by Florence AUBRY

Tess’s world is turned on its head overnight when she is told that her father has had a hunting accident involving a gun. Yet he was meant to be taking a train to Brussels that very morning… And since when did an animal lover like him go around with a hunting weapon?

Things get stranger when she’s not allowed to visit him in the hospital. Amid the lies, silence and secrets, Tess abruptly finds out the truth in the schoolyard: her father tried to commit suicide…

Original and hard-hitting, this is a claustrophobic yet delicate novel on a shocking subject. Recounting the innermost thoughts of a young girl coming to terms with her father’s attempted suicide, this is an understated work that is at once poignant and accessible with the sensitive, precise and sparse writing from an established author.192 pages • 13+

A fourteen-year-old narrator speaks out movingly about her determination to become what she is: a boy. With a cast of original, likeable characters, a spirited tone and plenty of heartwarming humour, this novel tackles a serious subject with ease, simplicity and humanity and heartening relations between parents and their teenage kid.

My whole life, people in shops, people anywhere, have taken me for a boy – and I’ve never put them right.

“At nursery, everything was fine. It was the happiest period of my life, when I could just be a child – a girl and a boy at the same time. I was undefined, unclassifiable. Easy. It was at primary school that things started to get complicated… I could see people pointing at me. I withstood the taunts. I took it on the chin when they sent over a junior or a new kid to ask the question: Are you a boy or a girl? I didn’t understand what I had done to deserve it.”176 pages • 13+ • May 2019

The Rebels of Athens by Mathilde TOURNIER

A razor-sharp historical novel that transports readers into the world of Ancient Greece. Both a coming-of-age story and an adventure novel that muses on freedom and justice, resistance and terror. The Athenians’ rebellion against the Thirty Tyrants: a rich and complex episode in Ancient Greek history retold in a strikingly modern way.

At the close of the 5th century BC, after thirty years of war, the powerful Athenian fleet was burnt to a cinder by the Spartan army. Escaping the massacre, Heraclios, a bewitchingly beautiful sailor 22 years in age, crosses the Peloponnese to return to his city. At Piraeus, he finds his mother and 15-year-old sister Myrto waiting in anguish and misery. Ready to risk everything to save his life and defend democracy, Heraclios defies the cruel tyrant Critias, prostituting himself and going into exile to take up arms. On his journey, he meets a strange old man by the name of Socrates…272 pages • 15+ • April 2019
