A group of executives from the call
center Sitel visited, in January,
APROQUEN's Burn Unit as part of a
project on their social responsibility
with the community. The company
as a whole made formal delivery of
a television and each employee
donated personal vacation days
destined as funds for the Cleft Lip
and Palate Clinic that was recently
opened by APROQUEN inside the
Burn Unit.

Metropolitano Vivian Pellas during
Social Responsibility Week where
more than 30 hospital workers' kids
participated voluntarily, will be
destined for play therapy, a
longterm work that supports the
psychological and physical
rehabilitation of our patients. In
2011, all the funds were destined to
strengthen the Campaign on the
Prevention of Burn Injuries held in
Elementary Schools.

Ronald McDonald returns
As part of the Regional Program
that APROQUEN manages since
the year 2003 in order to promote
and replicate the comprehensive
care and attention model, we
received from the 11th to the 14th
of January a special training with
US nurse Barbara Mclean, to
which nurses from El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras and
national hospitals from Managua,
Granada, Matagalpa and Masaya assisted. Mclean, especialist in critical care
from Grady Memorial Hospital of Atlanta, Georgia, offered theoretical and
practical training on the care of burn patients.
This past August 26th Ronald
McDonald visited APROQUEN's
Burn Unit for the first time and
promised to come back. This past
January he kept his word with a
surprise visit that brighten the day
of all the children waiting to be
seen by the doctors as well as those
that were also hospitalized.

APROQUEN recently held the
second talk on the Prevention Plan
on Oral Health directed to patients
born with this congenital
malformation. This activity is
supported by the Dentistry Faculty
of Universidad Americana, UAM,
and the voluntary work of Pediatric
Dentist, Dr. Daisy Masis, and
orthodontist, Dr. Jorge Castillo.
This particular training was directed
to the pre-adolescents that have
already received several surgeries
and years of treatment and that are
ready to wear braces or are already
wearing them, a service that is also
offered completely free at
APROQUEN.

The Mobile Optical Clinic from
Ópticas Münkel made it all the way
to APROQUEN's Burn Unit this past
January 20th as a ways of
completing their visual mission that
offers free optical care to our
children and their families. This also
forms part of the sponsoring
agreement that such company has
with APROQUEN since several
years back. More than 25 people
from various parts of the country,
amongst them patients and family
members, were serviced.

A multidisciplinary medical team took part in the surgery of young Oscar Gutierrez
APROQUEN's operating room was
witness to the first maxillofacial
surgery on patient with cleft lip and
palate that took place this past
thursday, January 26th in which a
multidisciplinary team composed
of Dr. Jorge Castillo, orthodontist;
Dr. Daysi Masis, pediatric dentist
and Dr. Gilberto Martínez,
maxillofacial surgeon, participated.
The entire team, besides being a
highly qualified medical team, are
also volunteers. The operation was
performed on young Oscar
Gutiérrez of 16 years of age,
originally from Masaya, and who
has been a patient of APROQUEN
since he was just a few months old.
Óscar is part of a group of patients
with this congenital malformation
that is being attended in a
comprehensive and complimentary
form that Aproquen offers under
their Cleft Lip and Palate Program.
