Nicaragua claims first win at AFECAVOL Boy’s U21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 13, 2013.‐ Nicaragua claimed their first win at the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship defeating Honduras by 3‐0 (23‐25, 27‐29, 22‐25). Nicaragua didn’t allow Honduras strong middle players take charge detaining their kills. The winners had a more confidence performing with an effective defense. Nicaragua improves to 1‐1 record while Honduras drops to 0‐2.

Nicaragua’s offensive line in the net held a huge advantage over Honduras by 40‐28. Honduras was better in blocking by 9‐6. Opposite Christofer Lazo was Nicaragua’s top scorer with 17 points, including 2 blocks. For Honduras, opposite William Thompson was their best with 13 points and middle blocker Ornello Watler contributed with 12 points. Nicaraguan captain Bryan Orozco was glad with his team’s triumph “this was the result of team effort and the desire to put our flag in high.” “The scores were very close, which is satisfying because we haven’t practice much together which isn’t the case of most teams here. Nicaragua obtiene primer triunfo en Centroamericano Sub 21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 13 de noviembre de 2013.‐ Nicaragua obtuvo su primer triunfo en el XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 21 Masculino derrotando a Honduras por 3‐0 (23‐25, 27‐29, 22‐25). Nicaragua no permitió que los jugadores centrales de Honduras tomaran el mando al detener sus ataques. Los ganadores tuvieron mayor confianza con buen desempeño en su defensa. Nicaragua mejora su record a 1‐1, en tanto que Honduras cae a 0‐2.

La línea ofensiva nicaragüense sobre la red tuvo una gran ventaja sobre Honduras por 40‐28. Honduras fue mejor en el bloqueo 9‐6. El opuesto Christofer Lazo encabezó Nicaragua con 17 puntos, incluyendo 2 bloqueos. Por Honduras, el opuesto William Thompson fue su mejor anotador con 13 puntos y el central Ornello Watler contribuyó con 12 puntos. Costa Rica dominates Belize SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 13, 2013. ‐ Costa Rica dominated Belize in four sets 25‐19, 22‐25, 25‐14, 25‐20 at the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship. Belize blocked Costa Rica in many occasions and forced long rallies during the match. Costa Rica held back Belize as much as they could to defend their attacks. Costa Rica has a 2‐0 win‐loss record and Belize remains winless with 0‐2 mark.

Despites Belize’s superior blocking with advantage of 12‐8, Costa Rica performed better in digging 32‐15 showing a strong defense. The winners held advantage in spikes 37‐30. From Costa Rica Cesar Gomez recorded a match high with 17 points and Meyson Garcia added 15 points to the wining cause. Raluni Bernardez of Belize scored 11 points. “As we began to enjoy more the match, things began to get better. Our attitude wasn’t as it should have been and we were over confident. Belize has players who are well‐built physically and they made things complicated for us” expressed captain Andres Araya. For Yserri Palacio, his team is building as the tournament develops “each day Belize is getting stronger, our minor mental mistakes need to be less”. “Belize played well, they have tall players with higher reach over the net than us and my boys weren’t careful enough in neither blocking nor attacking, performing in advance. The team was able to concentrate better and make the correct decisions in the right moments” indicated coach Mauricio Prado. Belizian coach Leslie Leon said “we still don’t have consistency and some faults in our execution went to the guy’s head. It was a good fight and we hope to do well tomorrow against Honduras, playing hard”.

Belize bloqueo a Costa Rica en muchas ocasiones y forzó rallies largos en el transcurso del juego. Costa Rica pudo contener a Belize lo más que pudo defendiendo sus ataques. Costa Rica tiene un record de juegos ganados de 2‐0 y Belize se mantiene sin triunfos con marca de

0‐2. A pesar de la superioridad de Belize en el bloqueo, con ventaja de 12‐8, Costa Rica se desempeñó mejor en la defensa por 32‐15. Los ganadores tuvieron ventaja en el ataque por 37‐30. El costarricense César Gómez fue el máximo anotador del juego con 17 puntos y Meyson García agregó 15 puntos a la causa. Valdez carries El Salvador to second victory

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 13, 2013.‐ Captain Samuel Valdez scored a tournament high (25 points) to carry El Salvador to its second victory at the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship, beating Guatemala 3‐1 (20‐25, 28‐26, 23‐25, 20‐25). An outstanding performance from Valdez was Wednesday’s night cap for the home team to down defending champions Guatemala. Valdez scored 25 points, 22 in kills, joined by teammates Oscar Gil with 14 points, Mauricio Rivas and with Erick Menjívar with 13 points apiece.

Things came down hill for Guatemala after suffering the loss in the second set of opposite player John Leon after a knee injury. Top scorer for Guatemala was opposite Luis Ovalle with 14 points and Juan Rodas contributed with 11 points. El Salvador held a huge advantage in blocking by 14‐4 and 7‐1 in aces, dismantling Guatemala’s offensive over the net. El Salvador stands with a 2‐0 record and Guatemala with 1‐1. Samuel Valdez expressed his gratitude for the crowd “they were our motivation in this difficult and battled match; Guatemala is a tough opponent and we gave our maximum effort to beat them.” “El Salvador played excellent, they deserved to win. As for us, we lost concentration after John was carried out the court and we hope he gets better soon. The tournament hasn’t finished for us yet” expressed captain Juan Jose Gonzalez.
