• Analysing a 30 sec soundless video of physician-patient interaction can tell if that physician will be sued or not.

• Judgement of political candidates faces for just 1 sec can predict their chances of winning.

• Emoticons if used appropriately can give a boost to the digital communication and become a game changer.

We are also influenced by OUR non-verbals!

So what is power posing?Any pose in which your body is opened up.

Animals do it!!

So do humans for that matter!!!

In low power situations they wrap themselves up in an act of defence.

But can our body language affect how we perceive ourselves?

An experiment was performed by Dr Cuddy to answer this question. She and her colleagues put together a test in which they asked people to assume a "high-power pose" for 2 minutes, and another set to assume a “low power pose” for the same duration.

THE RESULTS WERE ASTOUNDING!!

• After just a 2-minute "high power pose," the risk tolerance of the high-power posers soared. The risk tolerance of the low-power posers, meanwhile, shrank.

• After a mere 2-minute pose, the testosterone levels of the "high power" posers rose 20%. Testosterone levels for the "low power" group, meanwhile, fell 10%.

A profound change in body chemistry was also observed.

• Testosterone is one key chemical for "power." The other is cortisol. When cortisol levels drop, people are better able to handle stressful situations (a good thing in a leader).

So YES!!

But can power posing for a few minutes really change your life in meaningful ways?

For example, if you assumed a "high power pose" in a job interview, would that help you get the job?

LOL!

!Hell

NO!

!

But think about how people "pose" when they're waiting for job interviews. They "close up" and assume low-power poses. So, what if, in the bathroom or something, you prepared for an interview by assuming a high-power pose?

To reduce the impact of interpersonal feedback, they trained the "interviewers" to be completely passive during the interviews, giving no responses whatsoever (quite dreadful).

The results? You guessed it.

The "high-power" posers were overwhelmingly the ones that non-partial judges who viewed the interviews wanted to hire. Importantly, what these people actually said in the interviews was irrelevant. It was all about "presence."

A real life story:Professor Cuddy suffered from an accident at the age of 19, her IQ dropped 2 standard deviations and took her 4 years longer to complete college. She worked and worked and finally landed up as a lecturer at Princeton. She felt undeserving and guilty of this fact.

But she kept on moving and faked it till she had herself forgotten she was faking it!

Today she is a renowned personnel in this field and a respected teacher at Harvard Business School.

So what we can learn:

Fake it till you become it!

Kindly observe you posture again and I am sure you will notice a change.
