Our homes are full of great stories. About ourselves. What we love. And
what we enjoy doing. We surround ourselves with our favorite things.

Denmark is BoConcept's home and it's where we've been designing and
manufacturing design furniture for almost 60 years. That is our history.
And right from the beginning, our ambition has always been to create
furniture that not only looks good, but is functional and good value for
money too. We do this by always thinking smarter and looking for a better
solution. To this day, we continue to produce furniture in Denmark, as
well as in other parts of the world, where we have chosen to work closely
with a few, select suppliers to ensure that our heritage and years of
experience are carried through in everything we do.
We have come a long way since 1952, and now have more than 250 stores
around the world. But our commitment to creating good, honest and
practical design remains the same. It is a commitment that is shared in
all our stores. Our modular designs can be customized to suit your style
and needs and with expert advice, we can help you achieve the perfect
solution. We take pride in offering you a highly professional service

Urban Danish Design since 1952You have to start small to go big! And BoConcept would not exist today
had it not been for two gifted Danish craftsmen, Jens Ærthøj Jensen and
Tage Mølholm, who decided to open a furniture factory in 1952 in the
small town of Herning, Denmark. Their goal was not only to make great
quality furniture that looked good, but also make it functional and provide
good value for money. Jensen and Mølholm got it right. Their vision
transformed BoConcept from a small furniture factory into Denmark's
most global retail furniture chain with more than 250 successful
franchise-driven Brand Stores and 80 Studios in more than 50 countries.

1952 Wood was the prevalent material for dining chairs.
2011 Modern production techniques allow for new details and shapes
that turn the classic dining chair into a refined and expressive
piece of design.

OUR HISTORY IS SUCH A BIG PART OF WHO WE ARE TODAY. IT'S A STORY THAT SHOULD BE SHARED.

The world has changed dramatically since
1952, but some things remain the same. Like
our customer's basic need for functionality
and comfort combined with beauty, simplicity
and price. That certainly hasn't changed and
probably never will. And we stay true to this
great heritage established by Jensen and
Mølholm while focusing on new designs, colors
and styles.
One other thing that hasn't changed since 1952
— we still design and manufacture furniture
in Denmark. Our team consists of Danish and
international designers, and we work with a
few, hand-picked certified suppliers in other
parts of the world. Our goal is still the same —
to create good, honest and useful design.

URBAN DANISH DESIGN
ANDERS NØRGAARDMasters in Architecture, Aarhus School of Architecture 1989. Owner,
Nørgaard Design in Aarhus, Denmark. For over two decades he has
designed modular sofa concepts and chairs for BoConcept.
Space optimization... Having worked with BoConcept for many
years, Anders Nørgaard knows that this is essential in urban homes
where space is definitely a luxury. 'When you have a compact space,
functionality often overrules beauty. Although my starting point for
the new Arco sofa was functionality, beauty was also key. Achieving
as many seats as possible without taking up too much space in
the room, was the functional element. But for beauty I tried to
think outside the box and worked carefully with small details, like
curvaceous armrests and piping details, so the sofa has a refined
look with lots of character.'
Anders Nørgaard starts out with freehand sketches. 'It's playtime
really. In the sense that at this stage there are no limits to what
you can try. Of course, I have certain guidelines for dimensions and
proportions based on experience, but a freehand sketch gives you
a really good idea of what each little detail can do for the overall
appearance.'
The work continues with 3D visuals before the first prototype is
made. 'Having a prototype in front of you and a close dialog with
the production engineers, we are able to make the final adjustments
together. So everything is optimized to ensure that the final result is
perfect in terms of look, function and quality.'

HENRIK PEDERSENFashion Designer from Teko Center, Denmark 1990. Now works
with interior design and has created unique furniture and lamps
for BoConcept.
Let's make a chair for Dad. A wide, generous recliner that is
extremely comfortable. This may sound like a recipe for a chair
that offers comfort, but is not very beautiful or unique. But for
Henrik Pedersen, this was exactly the challenge he had when he
drew the first sketches of the new Seto chair.
'I started designing the chair without thinking about the
limitations of the recline function. This is not to say that form
overrules function. I strongly believe that they must go hand-in-
hand. That is also why I quickly move from paper to computer
drawings. The 3D visuals can show the design from all angles
and give me a very clear overview of whether the proportions
are right in terms of comfort as well as look.'
Once Henrik Pedersen was happy with the form of the Seto
chair, the task was to integrate the recline mechanism without
compromising the look. Instead of attempting to hide the
obvious, the mechanics became an integrated part of the visual
expression. The result is a distinctive, retro chair that will fit into
any home where design and function are welcome.
MORTEN GEORGSENBachelor of Commerce, Aarhus University, Denmark 1982. Owner,
Futhark Design based in Valencia, Spain. Morten has a special
aptitude for designing multifunctional pieces, including storage,
tables and beds.
The challenge of designing a piece of furniture that has multiple
purposes has always been a passion of Morten Georgsen. 'My
inspiration tends to be very fact-based and I enjoy reading
newspapers, business reviews, trend reports, as well as lifestyle
magazines. In my opinion having an in-depth understanding of
how people live and use furniture is an integral part of the design
process.'
While Morten Georgsen is completely up-to-date with the latest
trends, he has taken a journey back in time with one of his latest
creations, the new 'highboard' cabinet. 'I was raised with the Danish
design traditions of simplistic and functional design. The old cabinets,
which were used in formal dining rooms in the 50's, are great
examples of how dimensions can work beautifully together. The tall
legs make the large cabinets look light. And even more importantly
you get a very spacious cabinet without taking up too much floor
space. So I decided to revive an old classic and put it into a new
context with functionalities, colors and materials that fit today's
modern lifestyle.'
The result is a highboard designed for multiple purposes. You can use
it as a classic sideboard for storing your dinnerware. As a small home
office with space for your laptop. Or as a beautiful, spacious cabinet
in your living room. Style and function – a true classic!

INITIATIVES FOR LIFE
INITIATIVE 16: RECYCLED MDF AND FURNITURE BOARDWe constantly research ways to make more out of less. That is also why
we have chosen to mainly use MDF and furniture board instead of solid
wood in our production. They are made from wood waste in the form of
sawdust, reclaimed wood or small wood pieces. A choice that effectively
cuts down the need for raw materials.
INITIATIVE 8: HELPING THE LESS FORTUNATEOur business is furnishing homes. But some are not fortunate enough
to have a home. We have a policy that encourages our stores and
warehouses to donate floor samples, discontinued products or designs
with minor flaws to organizations that help the less fortunate. For
example, we have donated mattresses to churches in New Jersey, and
furniture to a nationwide youth organization in Denmark that helps
children and young adults who do not have a home of their own.

It’s in our nature at BoConcept to think smarter. Not just about
furniture design, but also about everything we do that affects the
people and environment around us. We don’t pretend to have

must never give up on. Here’s just a few of the initiatives we
have already undertaken. And we plan to keep going. For life.

INITIATIVE 13: GLOBAL COMPACTBoConcept supports the UN Global Compact, which is a strategic policy
initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations
and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of
human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

INITIATIVE 4: ECO-FRIENDLY LACQUERWe use UV-based lacquer for the majority of our lacquered furniture.
This type of lacquer hardens when exposed to ultraviolet light so we
avoid using chemicals. During the last decade, we have saved 425 tons
of chemicals by changing our lacquer to UV-based. Another benefit of the
UV-based lacquer is that it effectively seals in formaldehyde found in the
majority of furniture board and MDF, thus making a piece of lacquered
furniture safer for you, our employees and the environment.
INITIATIVE 21: REDUCTION IN CO2 EMISSIONSWe have regional distribution centers in Europe, the US and now in Asia
to reduce the distance that our products have to travel to reach our
customers. In April 2010, we opened our Asian Distribution Centre to cut
down on the transportation distance for this region, resulting in a 15%
reduction in transportation and CO2 emissions in Asia.
INITIATIVE 10: THE BOCONCEPT CATALOGThe BoConcept catalog has been printed by Mohn Media in Germany
who works actively to reduce the environmental impact of their printed
products. Their innovative use of combined heat and power technology
has reduced CO2 emissions by up to 52% in comparison to conventional
print methods in Germany. In 2008, we also moved from 196 pages
to 164 pages. This has effectively reduced paper consumption and
transportation needs, thereby cutting CO2 emissions by 16%.

For the first 6–8 weeks, when the item is
absorbing the surrounding light, keep the
surfaces clear of any objects or decorations
to avoid uneven light absorption resulting in
permanent marks and circles. At first, new
furniture will also need time to absorb light
before it will match the tone of your existing
furniture
Water is only to be used in small quantities •
and only in the form of a damp cloth. After
wiping, always wipe dry with a dry cloth
No polish or oil treatment of any form should •
be used
Wood and veneer are very sensitive to liquids. •
Therefore, wipe up spilled liquids immediately
Always try to remove stains with the mildest •
cleaning materials
Upholstery in generalIf possible, switch the seat and back cushions •
on a regular basis to extend the life of your
cushions and to ensure even wear over the

Cushions with a filling of foam• l feather should
be shaken regularly to ensure form stability
Expect a 'breaking in' period for your new •

Almost 60 years of experience and know-how
provide invaluable insights that benefit our
production facility in Denmark, as well as our close
cooperation with our global suppliers. We have
chosen to work with only a few select suppliers
that share our commitment to high quality. This is
how we remain in control of the entire production
process ensuring the highest quality every step of
the way.
We take quality seriously and believe that it is not
achieved through random, but rather consistent
and dedicated, work. We have implemented a
comprehensive quality control program based on
the ISO 9000 standard and our own production
experience with all our suppliers. Furthermore,
we always have our own quality control engineers
working on site with our suppliers. They ensure
that our detailed guidelines are followed all the way
through the production process and make sure that
the final products are checked before leaving the
factory.
All our furniture is made from high-quality
components and based on our passionate regard
for functional and affordable design. To achieve
this, we work on finding the right balance between
carefully selected materials, beautiful design and
deliberate simplicity. Below, you will find more
details about the materials we use in our furniture.
Wood furnitureYou will find veneer surfaces on most of our
board furniture, such as wall systems, tables and
bed frames. Veneer is just like wood ― a natural
material ― and variations in the grain must
be expected. This is what makes each piece of
wood furniture unique. The majority of our wood
parts are UV-lacquered 3–4 times to ensure a
very durable surface. Our surfaces are tested
continuously to ensure that the resistance to
scratches and liquid spills, and the color fastness
meet our standards for normal, everyday use.
GlassMost of our glass tabletops are made of tempered
glass to ensure our customers' safety. Colored
glass plates receive a heat treatment that burns
the color pigment into the glass. This process
ensures that the color is resistant to scratches. All
edges are finished to highest standard.
Metal partsThe majority of our metal parts are made from
the highest quality metal, reducing the risk
of impurities. Our chromed metal parts are
treated with two layers of nickel underneath the
chrome that results in a very smooth surface
with minimum risk of rust. Other metal parts are
powder coated which produces a tougher surface
than when using conventional paint. Powder
coating is also an eco-friendly surface treatment
as the lacquer does not contain any solvents and
excess paint can be re-used.
Upholstered furnitureWe are dedicated to ensuring that every single
piece of our upholstery provides you with perfect
seating comfort. That's why we primarily use high
resilient foam in our seat cushions. High resilient
foam is very structurally stable, ensuring optimum
comfort and a long lifetime. The back cushions
are channel sewn on the inside keeping the filling
material in place. We do always recommend that
you shake your cushions regularly to ensure form
stability too. With time and use, foam and cushion
filling will stabilize so your sofa or chair will feel
smooth and comfortable.
The selection and application of hardwearing
materials, which contribute to the lifetime of
our products, is a key factor for us ― as is the
widespread use of solid wood where strength
and stability are required. Our products are
upholstered with high quality foam that ensures
both soft and rounded edges and corners, and
means that our fabrics and leathers wear less and
last longer.
Leathers and fabricsWe select our leather and fabrics based on the
design and function of the individual products
they are to be used for. We guarantee no color
difference between different pieces of furniture
when commissioned as one order. Our only
requirement is that all the pieces of furniture are
ordered at the same time.
All leathers and fabrics will stretch during use.
To achieve the best comfort covers cannot fit too
tightly. Therefore, some creasing may occur, but
this adds character to the sofa or chair.
All our furniture fabrics and leathers are tested
at internationally recognized and accredited
institutions.
The following types of leather are
available:Rio and Santos leathers are made from buffalo
hide and Bahia and Salto leathers are made from
cowhide that have been treated to provide a
consistent structure and protection against spills
and stains. All four leathers are comfortable yet
hardwearing and able to retain their appearance
over a long period of time. Because of their
different thicknesses Rio, Bahia and Salto
leathers are recommended for the majority of
our upholstery. They are easy to maintain and
especially recommended for homes with children
and pets. Santos is a thicker leather so its use is
limited to large, soft surfaces so it creates an even
more exclusive look.
Estoril leather is made from cowhide, and is known
for its natural grain characteristics and exclusive
feel. Soft and flexible, Estoril leather is classified
as a high-quality slightly corrected semi-aniline
treated leather that ensures maximum seating
comfort. Through use, Estoril leather will receive a
beautiful patina that adds character to the product.
Salvador is top grain leather and classified as
aniline leather. The best selection of hides is
used for aniline leather. The natural softness
of the leather is preserved to ensure exclusive
seating comfort. Visible natural markings will add
character to the material.
