Base Drawing Competency

“Girl in hat and one piece bathing suit

One of the lessons that I taught in my life drawing class at Sheridan College is that some people over emphasize the need to spend hours and hours on a drawing or painting…

To paint or draw quickly isn’t determined by how fast you physically put down marks on to a page. It’s determined by how much correct information you can put down at what rate.

If you can talk about 100 different points with 10 strokes, you are drawing faster than a person that puts down 60 strokes talking about 60 different points.

That’s why there is so much beauty in simplicity

The Dude’s Open Nature “I meet a lot of people that tell me that they would love to be a concept artist but they think it's too hard or there's not enough jobs. It's not true. If you are truly passionate, the work will find you.Sending you all positive vibes! ”

“Do you ever feel like you're an average person trying to do art? Pretending like you know what your doing? We have all thought this. Don't worry, you're normal.”

“Leaps in learning comes from working through great frustration. Gotta keep going!”

“The best way to improve is to love what you do! Concentrate on why you enjoy art!”

“If you want to be successful, a great habit to do is aim to be a good role model even when no one is looking.”

“Today, concentrate on enjoying the process of art more than the result, you will become more productive.Sending positive vibes to everyone!”

“The best thing my favorite teacher taught me is the desire to search for knowledge on my own - beyond all the information given in class. Most successful people will search out the knowledge they seek, even if it's knowledge that no one possesses at the moment.”

“Identify the important things in your life. Urgent doesn't always mean important. Not urgent doesn't always mean not important.”

“Question everything. This doesn't mean to question other people and bother them. Most of the time I just quietly question things to myself. It'll keep you creative and it's the best way to advance and evolve. Sending positive vibes to everyone!”

“The 'secret' freedom we all have is the choice to feel how we want to feel no matter what happens or how anyone treats us. Have you ever been made fun of and you pretended to laugh about it and then they stopped? Have you ever kept a positive attitude when you were going through tough times? You can let your environment tell you how to feel or you can choose for yourself. Many times, your attitude is the determining factor between a positive outcome or a negative one.”
