has just returned fromAmerica, where he hasbeen f i l m i n g m a j o rrecording artistes — likeDavid Cassidy. TheOsmonds, and Rod Stew-art — for future "Top ofthe Pops" TV shows.

Today Nash is the most pdw^erful man in British pop, though with his grey hair, impeccable diction, Paisleybow tie. and w e l l - c u tclothes, he looks more like atrendy politician than theman who sits at the controlsof this weekly TV show.

"T.O.T.P." still attracts anaudience of over 13 millionafter 12 years on the screen, and each week more than100 new records arrive ir|Nash's office in the B.B.C.TV centre at Shepherd'sBush

He may use just half-a-do/en.' Most records take three listen-

ings to get into." he says.Nash's telephone never stops

ringing with calls from fast-talking record pluggers. Theindustry believes that if arecord is a chart-breaker,his show can boost salesenough to put it in the TopTen. "I don't believe it,"says Nash, "records that areactually going to happenwill happen

"Top Of The Pops" is abonus. I t ' s guarantee ofsuccess. '

Nash a 48-vear-old bachelor, began his working life as ajunior in the Norfolk Educa-tion Office at 55 pounds a-year tefore turning to thetheatre as stage manager

" and actor. He was shrewd enough to see

the potential televisionoffered and in 1955, at theage of 26. he became theB.B.C's youngest studiomanager.

Now. at the top of the popshimself, he confesses: "Idon't have any particulartaste in music.

"There seems to be somethingfrom every area of music —Wagner to Pink Floyd --that I f ind pleasing andattractive "

The concert put on byTastees Ltd., in co-oper-ation with the JamaicaFederation of Musicians,at their open air theatrelast Thursday evening, was indeed the best intheir series of monthlyconcerts, flavoured withsome of Jamaica's bestyoung talent.

The crowd of over 700 demon-strated their appreciation byloud applauses to a perform-ance that more than com-pensated for the over fortyfive minutes delay before

^he start of 'the show.Seating the pace, the Mighty

Titans band gave some somepopular numbers, and hadthe crowd going w i l d .Shades Dance Group LittleLimbo and Flim Flam Flirtthen added their piece ofcolour to the evening.

However it was the SonnyBradshaw .Seven and theMighty Diamonds that reallyhad the crowd rocking andraving, in addition to JoyRoberts who really brought

the house down.Tne older folks too had their

share of entertainment inthe ever Green Kidd Haroldwho made his v a l u a b l econtribution

This was ce r t a in ly a commendable and successfuleffort by the management ofTastees and the Jamaica Federation of Musicians.
