The Italian boat builder Capelli has a complete range of vessels, both for racing activities and for professional or leisure use. Today the yard produces about 50 models, including polyester vessels and "Rigid Inflatable Boats" (shortened: RIBS). Recently a number of new Capelli models were introduced: the luxurious TEMPEST 44 and the sporty TEMPEST 650. A special and stylish console aboard the new Capelli T650.

Below the front deck we find a large storage area with a hatch. A market trend that we also see on other brands. The hatch is equipped with a gas spring.

An anchor locker nicely hidden in the front of the storage space. In the cover we see also a gap, to guide your anchor rope.

of the rib we see an extra bench that provides comfort for the passengers. The backrest of this bench can be folded down to make an extra little sun bed. Under the bench there is also a large storage space. One minus point is the lack of a central grip useful for passengers. An improvement compared to the older model is the entrance to the swim ladder, which is standard equipment. A navigation roll bar is unfortunately optional. The tubes of the TEMPEST 650 are made of Neoprene-Hypalon, which is much stronger than PVC and has a longer durability because it is resistant against UV-light. The material of the tubes and the extra features to provide comfort make this Tempest 650 more expensive than some competitors on the market. Still this is not an issue when we look at the benefits such as:the optimal durability and guarantee of a good resale value. We are sure… Anyone who buys this boat will not complain.

When we look closely at the TEMPEST 650 we notice that a lot of attention given to quality and details. In this regard the Capelliyard states that all of their products are of high quality. The attractive shapes and lines make that this New boat fits perfectly between the other Capelli ribs. The 650 features in the front an anchor locker and a big storage space with a hatch. Another positive asset is the reinforced polyester bow with a fixed anchor roller. We also see a stylish steering console equipped with a windscreen surrounded by a handle bar. The console is positioned centrally and doesn’t have an extra seat in the front, something the 625 does have. The complete front of the deck can be equipped with cushions, which gives the ability to sunbathe. To increase the comfort, the back of the pilot seat has been equipped with some bottle holders and a foldable picnic table. In the aft

Top left: The performance with a YAMAHA 200 HP is excellent.

Left: Behind the steering wheel we experienced perfect ergonomic proportions.

Right bottom to top: Our test boat starts planing after less than 4 seconds.

A ‘leaning post’ for the skipper is always an advantage on such a boat. We see also some bottle holders and a foldable table to picnic with style and comfort.

    Our impression

Aboard the TEMPEST 650 we find numerous strategically placed handles to hold on. At the steering post you find adequate shelter. Behind the steering console, we even have a ‘back seat rest’ or‘leaning post’, which is an absolute plus point on this boat. During our test run, we tested the boat equipped with a new 200 HP 4 stroke Yamaha (in-line 4 cylinder)engine. This engine weights 50 kg less than the previous model. According to the manufacturer he is also more economical. The acceleration and maneuverability of the 650 with this engine is sublime. The boat makes at 14 knots and after less than 4 seconds sufficient lift to start planing. After a few seconds we reach at 5500 RPM

a top speed of about 43 knots. At some engine speeds the engine sounds a bit noisy but this is definitely not an issue. Instead, the sound gives us a euphoric feeling. The most economical cruising speed we found at approximately 20 knots with a consumption of 15.2 liters per hour. So with a full fuel tank(220 liters) it must be possible to reach more than 290 nautical miles. The hydraulic steering is not standard but is absolutely necessary on such a boat. The boat length of over 6 meters, the very deep V-shape and a good weight distribution are elements to improve the seaworthiness of this boat. They ensure that you can use this rib without restrictions in open water.

Our conclusion This quality Capelli rib looks elegant and the boat is standard enough equipped. His sailing characteristics in combination with a new 200 HP Yamaha engine are also sublime. A "leaning post" for the skipper is an absolute plus point on this boat. Some minus points are the absence of a handle bar behind the pilot seat and the fact that the steering console has no extra seat in the front. The bow element made from polyester and the gigantic storage space in the front is an added value for this boat. The Neoprene-hypalon tubes and various comfort features make the Tempest 650 relative expensive. Still this is not an issue when we look at the benefits such as: the optimal durability; the good quality and guarantee of a good resale value of thisrib. With a TEMPEST 650 you can have fun on the water in a comfortable way. Furthermore, there are the good performance characteristics and a CE category B that makes sure that you can navigate sporty without restrictions in open water.

On the floor of the cockpit we see nice finished edge. The tubes are standard made of strong Neoprene-Hypalon.
