The vision of MAHATMA, the Father of the Nation was to see India as a socially and economically resurgent country and he looked upon education as an important means to achieve this goal. To fulfill his dream, Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) came into existence in 1980. Gandhiji’s view of education was not narrow or sectarian. He envisaged universities as institutions of higher learning that transcend all linguistic, racial and other barriers. GITAM is committed to imbibe his values and abide by his philosophy. On 13th August, 2007, GITAM was declared as a Deemed to be University u/s 3 of the UGCthe UGC Act, 1956 through a notification issued by MHRD.Along with its impressive progress in the academic arena and in tune with the vision of GITAM, the Institute has quickly expanded its geographic spread by establishing Hyderabad campus in 2009 and Bengaluru campus in 2012, in the state capitals of Telangana and Karnataka respectively. It is a matter of great pride that GITAM was accredited with A+ grade by NAAC. The University Grants Commission has accorded 12(B) status to the University facilitating research funding. UGC also accorded, Category-I graded Autonomy to GITAM. Having completed 39 years of its existence GITAM has now grown to the stature of a premier higher education institute in the country with 190 UG, PG, Doctoral and other programs in diverse disciplines with 22,000 regular students, 85,000 students in distance mode, 1300 faculty members and 1200 research scholars.
