Recommended Action:

I RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BOARD) APPROVE THE STATUTORILY REQUIRED CONVEYANCE OF ESCHEATED PROPERTIES TO THE RESPECTIVE CITIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH FLORIDA STATUTES §197.592 (3), AND AUTHORIZE THE CHAIRMAN TO EXECUTE AND THE CLERK TO ATTEST THE COUNTY DEEDS.

Summary Explanation/Background:

The Board action conveys properties, escheated to the County, to their respective City.

Per Statute, if the County has no current or future statutorily prescribed use, the County is mandated to convey the properties to the municipality where the land is located.

In 2014, thirty--five (35) properties in the City of St. Petersburg, two (2) properties in the City of Tarpon Springs, one (1) property in the City of Largo and three (3) properties in the City of Clearwater escheated to Pinellas County by Tax Escheat Deed as provided in Florida Statutes, Section §197.502 (8). Staff has confirmed the escheated properties are within prescribed city limits.

The County has no statutorily prescribed current or future use for the properties and County Departments have no objection to the properties being declared surplus and conveyed. Upon approval, the properties and mineral rights will be conveyed to the Cities by County Deed.
