Received a 2016 Summer School Report from Anthony Pizzo and Lisa O’Hern. Approved the field trip request for students to travel to Model United Nations at the University of

Chicago, Chicago, IL from Thursday, February 2 – Sunday, February 5, 2017 and the Model United Nations at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI from Friday March 17– Sunday, March 19, 2017 or the Model United Nations at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, IL from Friday March 10-Sunday March 12, 2017.

Candice Bentley shared the Assessment Report. Mike Cady, Marty Van Hulle, Robin Wilson, Pete Gull, Principal, and Randy Daul shared the

Continuous Improvement Reports from all four schools. The Board discussed the National School Board Convention and presentations as well as Board

and Superintendent goals. The meeting adjourned into closed session at 9:50 p.m.

At the October 24, 2016 Board of Education meeting…

Spotlight on Learning- John Vitale introduced teachers Michaela Bies, Erica Falk, Trish Zahn, Lindsay Krueger, Julie Purney, Dan Duss, and Laura Howard who shared the social and emotional focus for students at PLE and the implementation and components of Responsive Classroom. Responsive classroom is a research-based approach to K-8 teaching that focuses on the strong link between academic success and social-emotional learning.

Approved the field trip request as presented for students to travel to Bemidji, Minnesota from May 18-21, 2017.

Department School Continuous Improvement Reports: Teaching & Learning, Information Technology, Workforce Engagement & Development, Communication & Community Engagement, Facilities & Operations. These reports are from our five key departments that support our strategic plan. Mike Cady, Susan Muenter, Amy Pugh, John Gahan and Wendy Wong presented their respective continuous improvement reports.

Approved ten (10) youth options requests for semester 2 of the 2016-17 school year for students as presented.

Approved a tax levy of $26,440,524 for all funds for 2016-17 as described. Approved the Revised (Original) Budget for 2016-17 school year as presented. Approved the Superintendent and Board Goals for the 2016-17 School Year. The meeting djourned at 9:44 p.m.

At the November 14, 2016 Board of Education meeting…

• SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING – ASA CLARK MIDDLE SCHOOL – Board members saw the

Robotics program in action. Students and teachers shared the evolution of the Robotics Program and how it sparks interest for middle level learners. This learning has successfully carried over to active participation by students in high school and beyond.

• Approved the check registers and financial report. • Mike Cady, Danielle Bosanec, and a team of teachers presented the 2017-18 New Course

Considerations. The proposed courses were: Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles and Exploring Computer Science II / Pewaukee High School; English Language Arts / Pewaukee High School; Insight / Health Occupations / Bio-Medical Project Lead The Way (PLTW); and Middle School Yearbook / Asa Clark Middle School.

• The Board discussed participating in the Pewaukee Scholarship Fund again this year. • The meeting adjourned into closed session at 8:15 p.m.

Robin Wilson introduced teachers Lauree Frett, Tara McNamara, Erin Meisel and Julie Chapman along with a few students. Students Anusha, Charlie, and Noah shared lessons learned at Wisconsin Statewide Math Initiatives (WSMI): Multiple Means of repetition in math.

SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING – HORIZON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - Jodi Swanson, Associate Principal and Pete Gull, Principal shared the transition process and things we do to help transition students from 3rd grade to 4th grade.

RECOGNITION - WASB - John Ashley, Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Executive Director honored John Blask with a Level 5 award for his service and he congratulated JoAnn Sternke on her retirement.

Approved the check registers and financial report. Approved the Wisconsin Adventure Trip (WAT): New Southern Route from June 13-17,

2017 and The National Adventure Trip (NAT): The Civil War Tour from July 11-17, 2017. John Stangler presented the Five Year Capital Projects Plan. This document outlines

facility needs/upgrades for five years. It is a planning system that sequences major cost items such as HVAC and roofs. It also seeks to address key maintenance projects that maintain our building envelope and preserve the critical investment we and the community have in our fine facilities.

John Gahan shared the 2017-18 Budget & Staffing Plan Calendar. Approved a commencement of school year waiver request for the 2017-18 school year. Approved the retirement of Dr. JoAnn Sternke effective June 30, 2017 with great

sadness. Received an election candidate report and a legislative update. The meeting adjourned at 9:03 p.m.

SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING – ASA CLARK MIDDLE SCHOOL – Board members heard from an Asa Clark Middle School student, along with Teacher Jenny Lichte and Technology Coach Melinda Larson-Horne. Information was shared about student-driven Individual Education Plan meetings.

Open Enrollment Seat Designations were determined:

At the February 6, 2017 Board of Education meeting…

SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING – PEWAUKEE HIGH SCHOOL – Special Education Teacher Jill Thomas and Paraprofessional Chris Martin shared a video that describes the Transition program (now named Project LIFE) and included interviews with both students and a parent. Students attended and shared their experiences thus far with Project LIFE.

Approved the check registers and financial report. Approved the field trip request for students to travel to Florida for a Basketball

Tournament in December, 2017. Coaches Mike Basile and Tom Dougherty attended and presented the trip.

Approved a music field trip for students to travel to Scotland and England during Spring Break of 2018. Kate Mitchell and two students presented the trip to the Board.

Approved the field trip for Robotics students to travel to the St. Louis Missouri Regional Competition from March 8th - 11th 2017.

Approved the 2017-18 school calendar. The family calendar is linked HERE. With great sadness and much thanks, the Board approved the following retirements at

the end of the 2016-17 school year: Sue Box, Special Education Teacher Nan Curtis, English Teacher Judy Keefe, 5th Grade Teacher

Approved the employment of Dou Vang as a 1.0 FTE Science Teacher at Pewaukee High School.

Post 9537, along with students Emily Thomas, Izzy Yuskis, and Khadijah Dhoondia shared a spotlight that focused on Asa Clark Middle School's relationship with the Pewaukee VFW and their Patriot's Pen Writing program.

Approved the field trip request for students to travel to Italy in June, 2018. Teachers Ben Lamp and Jeanne Bjork, along with students presented the field trip.

Approved the Waukesha County Special Education Cooperative Contract for the 2017-18 school year as presented.

SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING - Teachers and students from the model innovation classrooms presented the use of seminars in a personalized learning environment. The teachers presenting were from our 5K team (Katie Rumohr, Jackie Elger, Anna Duffin, Shannon Blaesing) and 2nd grade (Amy Eide, Erin Heiman). Students also shared their perceptions and perspective about the use of seminars in their class.

SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING - Valedictorian Callie Bednarek and Salutatorian Riah Vande Zande attended and answered questions from Board members. This is such a celebration of our mission as these two students along with many, many others truly have doors open to a successful future.

Approved the acceptance of 40 open enrollment students and the creation of a waitlist for the remaining students as presented, and deny 15 students due to the program they applied for being closed and deny one student due to an expulsion on their record.

Received a strategic planning update. Approved the hire of:

Jill Reich, as a 1st grade teacher at Pewaukee Lake Elementary School Adam Ebbole, as a Physical Education Teacher at Horizon Elementary School

and Pewaukee High School Karie Hagenbeck, as a 5K Teacher at Pewaukee Lake Elementary School Berkley Wymer, as a 5K Teacher at Pewaukee Lake Elementary School Trina Kalamarz as a 4K Teacher at Pewaukee Lake Elementary School James Morrow III as a 5th grade teacher at Horizon Elementary School Erin Mente, as a Math Teacher at Asa Clark Middle School Robin Apold as a Music Teacher at Pewaukee Lake Elementary School Amy Harris, as a 4th Grade Teacher at Horizon Elementary School
