What’s New in BusinessObjects 6.5 Service Pack 2What’s New in Business Objects1
What’s New in Business ObjectsThe BusinessObjects 6.5 Service Pack 2 release, integrates several new features in addition to more than 200 bug fixes and 18 enhancement requests.
New product featuresThe new product features are:• Ability to perform multiple authentication
If you are using Windows authentication, you can enable authentication mode override. When the override is set, you can switch the authentication mode on local desktop client machines. This means that the switched machine can have a different authentication mode than the mode set for the repository. If the override is not set, all machines in the cluster must use the same authentication mode as the one set for the repository.
• Maintenance of WebIntelligence and BusinessObjects document security after migrating to 6.5. SP2
• Performance enhancements for Broadcast Agent• Application Foundation can be installed with the cumulative hotfix
application for 6.5 SP2
Critical enhancement requestsThere are 18 enhancement requests that have been accepted for integration into Business Objects 6.5 SP2. See, “Critical enhancement requests” on page 8, for a detailed description of each CER.
New installation procedure for bug fixesUpdating your BusinessObjects 6.5 version is easy using the new Cumulative Hotfix Application. Rather than reinstalling the entire BusinessObjects suite, you install the sum of bug fixes since 6.5.1, using the new installer.
! How does the installation differ from previous releases of Business Objects? This release of Business Objects is distributed as a cumulative hotfix or patch. That means that if you have already installed BusinessObjects 6.5.1, you simply need to apply the cumulative hotfix for 6.5 SP2. If you have not
4 What’s New in BusinessObjects 6.5 Service Pack 2

installed previous versions of BusinessObjects, you need to first install BusinessObjects 6.5.1, then apply the 6.5 SP2 Cumulative Hotfix as a second step. • For details on installing BusinessObjects 6.5.1, see the Installation and
Configuration Guide for Windows or the Installation and Configuration Guide for UNIX.
• For information on installing the cumulative hotfix for BusinessObjects 6.5 SP2, see, Business Objects Cumulative Hotfix Application Guide.
• For information on all bugs fixed see the Cumulative Hotfix Application or the Release notes that are included with the package.
Where to install BusinessObjects 6.5 SP2To install BusinessObjects 6.5 SP2, log in to Business Objects Online Customer Support website at www.techsupport.businessobjects.com, click the Electronic Software Delivery icon on the left menu. 1082397-C Designer Online help designer.chmpage = Setting database options for strategiesheading = Set the number of database rows to be retrieved by a query
n/a Modifying the default value for number of returned rows:You cannot restrict the physical number of rows retrieved from the database, but you can modify the default value for the number of rows viewed at any one time when you view table or column values. This can be useful if you want to view only a small sample of the values in a table, so you can restrict the returned values to a smaller number.

Chapter 2
Clarification to the section under the heading:What happens if a Scheduler shuts down or fails? The documentation states that If one machine fails, the other Scheduler automatically takes over the failed Scheduler's jobs. This is misleading. The document should read as follows:When one Broadcast Agent server fails any BCA jobs currently running on that server will not get reprocessed until the maximum time-out is reached. At that point the backup BCA will see the job as failed and restart it if the retry value has not yet been exceeded.

Chapter 3
New information: Restriction of join condition when shortcut join is used. When two tables are joined by shortcut joins between two different column pairs, only one join condition is generated when both joins are included in a query. For example, there are two shortcut joins between tables 'SCJoin1' and 'SCJoin3'. You create a report with the universe. When you check the generated SQL, it only contains one join condition,(SCJoin1.col1=SCJoin3.col1).The join of col2 is missing. This is due to shortcut joins being considered individually, and when several are available, the shortcut join that eliminates the maximum number of tables is used.In the example above, shortcut joins 1 and 2 are equal, so the application takes the first in the list, for example Shortcut 1. This effectively removes the intermediate table T2, so Shortcut 2 is eliminated as T2 does not exist anymore. The second join is not included in the SQL statement. This can lead to users creating queries that return a Cartesian product, for example if the generated SQL contains only one join(T1.col1=T3.col2).

When you use the Configuration Tool to configure the cluster’s ORB, you set the range of ports to be used by the processes on each primary or secondary node. At server startup, each of the processes on the primary or secondary node is allocated a fixed port within the range you specified, through which it listens for incoming requests coming from other nodes, or the application or web server. Allocated ports remain the same throughout the server session. Depending on your deployment scenario, you may need to open specific ports in the firewall to allow communication through the firewall. The range of ports you set for secondary nodes must be the same as those you set for the primary node. Depending on your deployment scenario, you may need to open specific ports in the firewall to allow communication through the firewall.
