SUSTAINING THE MIND: SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIPS Did you know that Alzheimer's disease alone affects 15 million people worldwide? Maybe you or a family member or friend is one of those people. As the population ages and this number increases, the need for neurological and neurodegenerative disease research becomes increasingly important. Brandeis University researchers in over 50 laboratories are already pioneering strides in the Eield of brainrelated disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Scientists in the areas of neurodevelopment, neurodevelopment disorders and neurodegeneration are trying to understand the fundamental biological processes underlying brain function. These Brandeis professors and students are dedicated to the basic research that has already led to breakthroughs in our understanding of neurological diseases. Educating tomorrow's scientists is important; that's why investing in scientiEic research and scholarships at Brandeis is an investment in the future. Plus Brandeis is committed to ensuring that it meets the Einancial needs of students doing outstanding work in science's fastestgrowing arena. We invite you to join the Brandeis National Committee's "Sustaining the Mind: ScientiEic Research and Scholarships" campaign to establish an important fund to foster research in neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases, and to establish an endowed scholarship fund for students in the sciences. Study  Group  21  Play  In  the  Dirt  with  Ed    (Friday,  April  5,  2013    

Time:  10:00-­‐  12:00)

Even  if  your  thumb  is  not  green,  a4er  a5ending  this  study  group  

with  our  own  Ed  Feldstein,  you  will  leave  understanding  the  

basics  of  container  gardening  and  have  your  own  herb  and  

vegetable  garden  to  take  home  with  you.  We  will  get  our  hands  

dirty,  so  schedule  your  manicure  for  a4er  this  study  group!  

 Study  Group  22  Spring  Time  At  Gibbs  Gardens  (Wednesday,  April  

10,  2013    Time:  10:00  a.m.  -­‐if  you  need  to  come  later  that’s  

OK….just  catch  up  with  the  group)

April  should  be  a  perfect  Ame  to  visit  Gibbs  Gardens!    We  Amed  

this  excursion  so  that  our  visit  will  coincide  with  the  mulA-­‐million  

bulb  Daffodil  FesAval  and  to  see  the  azaleas  and  dogwoods  in  

bloom.  We  will  walk  the  Valley  and  Oriental  gardens  together  and  

have  a  dutch  treat  lunch  at  the  Arbor  Café.    You  are  welcome  to  

conAnue  to  enjoy  the  gardens,  including  the  Upper  Manor  area  

gardens,  unAl  the  gardens  close  at  5:00  p.m.    If  you  prefer  a  

slower  pace,  there  is  a  tram.    We  will  try  to  arrange  carpools.

increase  your  well  being.    At  this  study  group,  Lynn  Oves,  will  

share  her  easy  Aps  to  use  super  foods  to  elevate  your  nutriAonal  

intake.  Of  course,  we  will  snack  on  some,  too.
