Industry safety standards are high, but ours are higher.Safety is of course our number one priority with the BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment range. Only the nest-quality materials are used, such as GORE-TEX ®Armacor ™ or specially treated, tear-resistant leather, while we are constantly working to further develop existing technology and create wholly new fabrics. That way, we ensure each and every one of our products meets BMW Motorrad’s exemplary safety standards – which are generally far more stringent than industry norms – and receives the C.A.R.E. stamp of approval.
Fantastic riding, whatever the weather.Products bearing the C.A.R.E. stamp make weather worries a thing of the past. Intelligently designed down to the very last detail, they feature windproof zips, gaiters and waterproof seams. Fabrics keep rain out, while allowing body heat and moisture to escape, and special, intelligent textiles actively regulate body temperature. Together, they ensure the optimum riding conditions whatever the weather. Because a comfortable rider is a safer rider.

Look great, feel even better. It’s absolutely essential that motorcyclists aren’t distracted by poorly- tting equipment, which is why all BMW Motorrad products are designed to offer the ultimate in comfort. The materials used are of the highest quality, being both tough and offering freedom of movement, and most of our gloves feature ngers that are curved forwards and specially stitched to minimize pressure on the hand. Similarly, the new NP protectors are soft and exible yet deliver outstanding safety performance.
Quality that lasts and lasts. And lasts.BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment is like a trusty riding companion that can be relied on for years. Over time, the products become almost as unique as the rider that wears them, with their exceptional durability a result of the quality of the materials and manufacturing processes employed. Every single fabric and bre undergoes extensive testing in a range of realistic conditions, while each individual component is subjected to the most thorough practical and virtual testing and analysis imaginable.

AirTexThis resistant, net-like Dyna l structure allows air to ow freely, keeping you cool even at higher temperatures. It is extremely light, yet offers all the safety you’d expect from a motorcycling jacket, and is ideal for hot-weather riding.
Azo dyesThese may not be used in coloured outer materials since they can break down into carcinogenic amines.
BreathabilityTechnically de ned as resistance to evaporating heat transfer (RET). The lower the RET, the more permeable the material is to air.
Carbon bre Heat-resistant chemical bre, lighter than glass bre. Characterized by high strength and rigidity.
c_change ™Elasticated, abrasion-resistant Dynatec, employed as a three-layer laminate. The intelligent c_change ™ membrane adapts the size of its pores according to the exterior temperature, thus allowing the skin to breathe in hot weather, and locking in heat on colder days.
CE test mark The CE (Communauté Européenne) mark indicates that the product complies with European Union safety directives.
Cordura ® 500 / 700Nylon yarn consisting of 100% polyamide. The manufacturing pro-cess involves respinning and weaving the cut polyamide bres. Has a melting point of 210°C. Cordura ® 700 is even more tear-resistant.
DesignThe characteristics of BMW design include the use of classic shapes and colours. The guiding principle is “Form follows function.”
DuPont Coolmax ®
DuPont Coolmax ® consists of hollow bres which transport humid-ity to the outside very quickly by capillary action, making the material dry 50% faster than cotton.
Dyna lA highly tear-resistant polyamide yarn that is even more robust than Cordura ® 500 / 700 and resistant to high temperatures.
DynatecFabric made of Dyna l. Tear-resistant and extremely robust, with a melting point of 290°C.
Expanding pleatsThe upper material is sewn onto the stretch fabric in a corrugated form. This allows the compound to stretch, making the tear-resistant outer material even safer.
Glass- bre reinforced plastic (GFRP)/carbon- bre rein-forced plastic (CFRP)The individual bres (aramid, carbon, glass bre) can be mixed in varying proportions as required. By changing the orientation and position of the bres, different characteristics can be achieved – for example low weight, high strength, high rigidity, low heat expansion and good insulating properties.
GORE-TEX®
A membrane made of te on (polytetra uorethylene). Countless microscopic pores prevent the penetration of large water droplets while allowing the much smaller water vapour molecules to pass through. The branch-like structure of the membrane means that it is also windproof.
GORE-TEX ® Armacor™An extremely tough, non-tear fabric with Kevlar ® and Cordura ®, that offers the breathability of GORE-TEX ® in a three-layer laminate.
GORE-TEX® Performance ShellA combination of soft fabrics, a GORE-TEX® membrane, and a spe-cial lining which provides lasting protection against cold and damp.
GORE-TEX® ProShellThe GORE-TEX® ProShell three-layer laminate is 25 per cent more breathable than standard GORE-TEX® three-layer laminates. It is also wind and waterproof, and so provides optimum temperature and moisture regulation – it keeps wearers warm when the weather is cold, and ensures they do not overheat when the temperature rises.
GORE-TEX ®X-TRAFIT ™GORE-TEX ®X-TRAFIT ™ is a three-layer construction employed in motorcycling gloves. It is windproof, waterproof and breathable, with the layers being glued or laminated together. The lining of the gloves is bonded to the membrane, which in turn is bonded to the leather, ensuring they are easy to put on and take off (even when wet) and offer rst-rate grip.
Hydrophobic treatmentA treatment which renders leather water-repellent. BMW uses the vat immersion technique, with 3M Scotchguard™ as the active agent. The best results are obtained when only the leather bres are encapsulated and the pores are left open, thereby maintaining breathability.
Integral helmetA helmet that encloses the head completely.
Jet helmetAn open-face helmet with no chinguard or visor.
Kangaroo leatherFiner, more closely woven bres and a tighter structure make this leather even more durable than cowhide.
Keprotec ®
A blend of Kevlar ® and PA bres which enhances Kevlar’s ® already excellent stretchability and abrasion resistance. Used to reinforce those areas most at risk in a fall, such as the elbows, shoulders, knees and thumbs.
Laminate A layered structure of various materials created by thermal adhesion (the adhesive is usually applied in spots), and particularly suited for use with all-weather membranes. Can also take the form of a lining laminate or three-ply laminate, and does not always need to be thermally attached to the outer material.
Motorcycle-speci c cutThis pattern takes account of the body’s contours in the riding position. The tops of the sleeves are further forwards, the sleeves and legs are angled, and there are numerous other special design details.

Nappa leather The upper surface of the hide. Smooth and slightly shiny, worked to a soft leather with a ne grain.
Nickel-free accessoriesAll BMW Motorrad buttons and zips are nickel-free to protect the skin.
Nomex ®
A heat-resistant material made of re-retardant aramid bres.
Nubuck leatherA highly breathable leather with a slightly roughened surface, result-ing in a velvety feel.
Off-road helmetA helmet with a chinguard and sunshield but no visor.
PCP/CPPentachlorphenol (PCP) is banned under the German prohibited chemicals order of 14 October 1993, though it may be used in concentrations of up to 5 mg/kg in leather processing.
ProFoamA viscoelastic foam which hardens on impact, providing excellent shock absorption at all temperatures.
ProSafeAn integral polyurethane foam with an open-cell structure and a closed-cell outer skin that resists weathering and is used in protec-tors.
Safety, active and passiveActive safety measures are designed to prevent accidents, for example by using re ective material for good visibility. Passive safety features aim to minimize the effects of an accident, for instance by employing impact-resistant protectors and outermaterials.
schoeller ® PCM ™ Derived from space research, this material features special paraf n capsules that allow it to store heat when warm and release it when the temperature drops. It is thus able to minimize uctuations in body temperature, keeping the rider comfortable. The material is at its most effective between temperatures of 5°C and 25°C.
Sera l Highly tear-resistant safety yarn used in all BMW Motorrad motor-cycle suits.
Silver functionA textile treated with silver via an ionizing process that has a long-term antibacterial effect, minimizing odour and moderating body temperature. The material has anti-static properties and wicks moisture away particularly effectively.
Storm cuffA sleeve inlay which forms a waterproof closure around the wrist.
TaslanA group of materials in which the polyamide bres are altered by steaming. This causes them to swell and soften while retaining their wind and water-resistance and breathability.
TFL® Cool System Cool technology is used in dark leather and textile garments. Thanks to a special manufacturing process, sunlight is re ected from the dark surface of the leather or fabric in the same way as from a light surface, making the outer material much less likely to overheat.
VenturiThis breathable wind and waterproof membrane is used as a laminate in BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment. Its main advantage is its low weight, and it can also withstand water pressure at depths of up to 10 metres.
x-static ®
A textile containing silver which prevents bacteria, odours and static, and regulates the temperature.
Z-linerHere, the membrane is like a lining “suspended” between the outer material and the lining itself.
GORE-TEX ® and WINDSTOPPER ® are registered trademarks of W.L. Gore & Associates. schoeller ® PCM™ is a registered trademark of Schoeller & Frisby Technologies. DuPont Coolmax®,Cordura®, Nomex® and Kevlar® are registered trademarks of DuPont.

See how you measure up
It’s essential that a motorcycling suit should t properly. If it’s uncom-fortably tight, it can affect concentration while riding, and the same goes if it’s apping loose.
Either way, it’s an irritation that will take your mind off the road, and so compro-mise your safety.
Jackets and trousers also have to sit right on the wearer. Sleeves and trouser legs should never ride up, because if they do, it’s not just a safety issue – it also means you’re not properly protected against the ele-ments.
That’s why the cut of all BMW Motorrad suits is specially designed for motorcycling use, and why they all feature a wealth of adjustments, expandable sections and clever details.
However, the most import-ant factor in ensuring a glove-like t is still making sure that you get the right size. BMW Motorrad knows that riders come in all different body shapes, and so its suits are available in a choice of over 40 different sizes. To nd the one that’s right for you, grab your tape measure and follow these simple instructions.
A Height Stand barefoot with your back to a door frame. Place a book on your head and use it to make a mark on the door frame. Measure the height from the oor to this mark.
B Chest Take this measurement while wearing a shirt or lightweight pullover. Pass the tape measure under your arms, and take the measurement around the broadest part of the chest and over the shoulder blades.
C Waist Measure around the shirt, just above the top of your trousers. Please ensure you are in a relaxed and natural position, and do not hold in your stomach – that way you’ll ensure the trousers later sit comfortably.
D Hips Measure the distance around the body over the hips and the fullest part of the backside.
E Outside leg Measure the distance down the outside of your leg, from the waist of your trousers to the sole of your foot.
F Inside leg Measure the distance down the inside of your leg, from the crotch seam to the sole of your foot.
