After the great success of Z1 and Z3, BMW has decided to introduce the Z4 in 2002 to replace the Z3. The Z4 was produced in two versions to suit our custom-ers’ different tastes needs and seeked requirements in a sports car.

The first model is a coupe and the second one is a roadster. The Z4 won the Automobile Magazine “Design of the year”. In 2009, we introduced the second generation of the Z4 and it won the Red Dot Design Award. Through creating and building this car, our objectives were to keep the spirit of the Z series and to fos-ter its ever-growing number of fans.

For more power and greater performance tuning we introduce the M version of the Z4. The Z4M is considered to be the height of power, performance, handling, comfort and luxury. It’s a multipurpose machine that ensures you the maximum experience and performance on the road. In other words the Z4 is the “essence of sheer driving pleasure.”

A roadster designed the way only BMW can: the classic proportions of the stretched bonnet and short overhangs are complimented by the low seats near to the rear axle to grant the driver a perfect feel for the road. The mod-ern shape, an interplay of striking contours and soft mergers, fully captures the character of this vehicle from its characteristic kidney grille to the power-ful wheelarches at the rear. However, it's the way this roadster effortlessly negotiates straights and bends that makes it truly like no other.

Right to continue, left for back and turn to select: you've now learned how to operate the new iDrive* which gives you full control over all of the BMW Z4 Roadster's functions from the navigation system to the internet. You can access the most important functions directly using the assigned buttons. Information is displayed on the Control Display posi-tioned above the centre console. The storage concept in the BMW Z4 Roadster.

Whether it be your mobile phone, credit card, keys, sunglasses, cough sweets, maps or mug of fresh coffee, in the BMW Z4 Roadster there is space for everything and everything has a place: in the door panels, the centre console, the glove compartment and the instrument panel. And larger items can be conveniently stored behind the seats. Additional storage options are also available as part of the optional storage package.

The retractable hardtop of the BMW Z4 Roadster.

The first BMW roadster with a hardtop. Its sophisticated design means the characteristic low-slung appearance remains unaltered even with the top down. This is possible thanks to the optimal folding of the two aluminium roof shells in approximately 20 seconds. With the top closed, the roof line of the roadster adopts a coupé-style silhouette, and the generous side and rear windows ensure captivating panorama views. Whether you choose to drive with the roof open or closed, it's never a question of style but always of the moment.

Variable boot loading system on the BMW Z4 Roadster.

Golf in the summer, skiing in the winter, with the BMW Z4 Roadster you never have to leave your equipment behind. The boot can hold up to four drink crates or a 46-inch golf bag and even a second if you choose the optional through-loading system. Alternatively, you can take two pairs of skis with you. In the cockpit a transportation bag is used to secure your equipment, and in the boot there are specially constructed ski rests. To load bulky items easily, the roof package is moved out of the rear sec-tion when the hardtop is closed.* *Only available in combination with the optional comfort access.

Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribu-tion on the BMW Z4 Roadster.

On a winding road at night, Adaptive Headlights move in harmony with the bend ahead: the beams of the BMW Z4 Roadster's headlights stay on the road and the light beam is adapted according to the vehicle's speed. When driving in the city, a low beam is used to better illuminate the road immediately ahead without daz-zling oncoming drivers. And when driving at higher speeds, the Xenon headlights are raised to increase visibility. The result: outstanding illumination and a more relaxed driving experience.

The straight six-cylinder petrol engines in the BMW Z4 sDrive23i, sDrive30i and sDrive35i.

Why does a roadster have an elongated bonnet? To accommodate six cylinders in a row. This is because only straight six-cylinder engines provide the perfect combination of weight and power coupled with dynamic balance and sophisticated smoothness. Con-structed from a combination of magnesium and aluminium, the BMW Z4 sDrive23i (150 kW/204 hp) and sDrive30i (190 kW/258 hp) set new standards in dynamic engineering. And in the BMW Z4 sDrive35i, High Precision Injection and Twin Turbo help release up to 225 kW (306 hp) on command.

The seven-speed sport automatic double-clutch transmission in the BMW Z4 Roadster.

Taking your breath away but not your speed, the seven-speed sport automatic transmission* transfers engine power to the road without the slightest disrup-tion to tractive force. With two transmission structures the system is able to switch simply between the two, thus providing constant power to the rear wheels. Gears can be changed without the transmission of power being inter-rupted using either the paddles on the steering wheel, the shift lever or the automatic mode for even more dynamic comfort. The Driving Dynamic Con-trol is used to effortlessly switch between the Normal, Sport und Sport+ op-tions. *Only available for the BMW Z4 sDrive35i.

Safety systems in the BMW Z4 Roadster.

A precisely-designed network of suspension, engine management, brakes and tyres, plus Dynamic Stability Control - all with one single objective: to keep the BMW Z4 Roadster safely on track, even in the most demanding situations. The head-thorax airbags are ide-ally positioned in the seats and are deployed as needed to deliver split-second protection for the vehicle's occupants, should a collision be unavoidable. And the particularly rigid side sills efficiently distribute energy in the case of a side impact.

Thanks to spe-cial side-wall reinforcement, the BMW Z4 Roadster's standard run-flat tyres are capable of being driven a further 250 km even after a puncture. The benefits make themselves felt far beyond that. The need for a spare tyre is eliminated, reducing weight and free-ing boot space on every single journey. In addition, the standard Tyre Pressure Indicator (TPI) warns the driver whenever there is a fall in tyre pressure17
