Detailed Guide:BMW M5 & M6 Launch ControlIf you are in D1 you ne ed topush the gear lever to theright to switch fromAutomatic D mode tomanual S mode.

You should now be in Smode and the display shouldbe showing a large number1. Press the gear selectbutton

to select S5 as shown in theimage to the right.

You now need to switc h from400bhp mode to 500bhpmode by pressing the PowerButton

The power button light should now be illuminated.

Next you need to disa bletraction control (DSC) bypressing the DSC button.

You will be presented with awarning on the dash toindicate that the DSC is nowswitched OFF.

Once you have disabl edDSC you will notice that a6th gear change speedsettings now appears on thedash as a selectable option.

Press the up side of th e gearselection button to switchfrom S5 to the newlyavailable S6.

Your dash should now looklike this, with a warning forDSC off (the smallexclamation mark !) andyou should be in 1st gear inS6 (count the little volumebars...1..2..3..4..5..6!!)

Make sure you are in S6otherwise Launch Control willnot work.

s pretty much all youneed to do at this stage.

Personally I like to put theElectronic DampeningControl on hardest settingbut some people debatewhether its better to haveEDC set to comfort to allowthe car " s weight to shifttowards the rear hencegiving more down force overthe back wheels which willbe ghting for grip.no lights = comfort / soft1 light = normal / rm2 lights = sport / hard

OK you need to nd y ourselfa clear stretch of tarmac.

DO NOT DO THIS ONPUBLIC ROADS!!!

When you are ready bringthe car to a complete stop.

Grab the gear level rmlywith one hand and thesteering wheel with the other.

With your foot on the b rake,press and hold the gear leverforwards.

That has now engagedlaunch control.....

Whilst keeping the ge ar leverpressed forwards, take yourfoot off the brake and pressthe accelerator (gas) pedal tothe oor.

If you done everythingcorrectly your revs shouldstart to rise but you shouldn " tmove anywhere. If the carengages the clutch andbegins moving forwardsyou " ve gone wrongsomewhere.

NOTE:You must press the pedaldown all the way! You cansee in the two lower imagesalongside, if you think you " vepressed the pedal all the way

down you should feel aclick. If you " ve not felt theclick press a little harderuntil you feel it.

If you have a USA spe c " d M5I" m afraid you have acrippled version of launchcontrol and the revs will onlyrise to and should sit on1500rpm.

For the rest of the world, therevs will rise to 4000 and sitthere waiting....

READY TO LAUNCH..!!!

RELEASE THE GEARLEVER!!!

...we have lift off!

USA - you need to changegear manually at the redline.

UK & others - keep your footplanted, launch control willtake care of perfect shifts foryou at the redline.

US version

UK & rest of the world.

NOTE for non-USA m odels:

The revs for launch controldefault to 4000rpm, if youwant to higher or lower thelaunch rpm (wet tarmac,experiments, etc) you canpress forwards or backwardson the cruise control leveland the rpm will rise of fall bya few hundred each time.

Form memory I think you can

choose between 3000rpmand 5000rpm.

The Easy WayNow for those who think all that all seems to complicated or time consuming, keep reading. If youwant to access Launch Control in a hurry then you can preset all the settings above to yourmagical M-button on the steering wheel, here " s what you need to do:

On the iDrive home pa gepress the controller down toselect the informationsections i.

Along the top you will see asection called MDrive. If thisoption is not available itmight be because you needthe ignition in stage II oralternatively the engine on.

Select MDrive and then click.

Now move the iDrivecontroller to select the DSCsetting rst.

Once you click on DS C youare present with a sub menuasking you to select:UnchangedOff (you want this one)OnM Dynamic mode.

You want to select OFF.

Next you want to mov e theiDrive controller to selectSMG Drivelogic mode.

In here you can select D orS mode along with gearchange speed:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6Option 6 may be grayed outand unavailable until you " veset the DSC setting to OFF.

You want to select S - 6 inhere.

You can also select th e EDCsettings for the suspension toyour preference, you have afew choices:

UnchangedComfortNormalSport

I personally choose Sport forthe hardest ride.

You can now exit the i Drivesettings menu.

To start launch control now isa 4 step process:

1. Press M-button on wheel

2. Hold gear lever forward3. Bury throttle4. Release gear lever.......LAUNCH!!!!
