BMW Headers Known For Power & Performance:When it comes the “Ultimate Driving Machine”, one of the first modifications are BMW headers. An aftermarket set of headers that has limited restrictions will increase flow and improve performance greatly when compared to the factory setup. The most important factor is to identify a set of headers that will not only create additional power, but will improve the overall performance of the BMW.

E36 3-Series Headers

Improving performance is all about gaining the slightest edge wherever possible. When it comes to the performance of E36 models, a set of headers will gain more than just a slight edge. Most variations of E36 headers are designed to optimize exhaust flow which helps the engine run more efficiently and creates additional horsepower. It is also common for the installation of BMW headers to greatly improve upon throttle response as well. Additionally, most aftermarket headers are reserved for off-road or racing applications only.

E46 3-Series Headers (Non-M)

When it comes to E46 non-M models, a set of headers is essential for improving performance. The factory set of headers is highly-restrictive and creates a great deal of extremely-high heat. This excess heat robs the BMW of valuable horsepower. With the addition of aftermarket headers, this bottleneck-like design is eliminated, allowing exhaust gases to flow more freely. Due to the increased exhaust flow, overall performance is improved and the additional horsepower is much more accessible. What makes a non-M E46 set of headers so great is its ability to suit naturally aspirated as well as forced induction

applications.

E46 M3 Headers

One of the most common modifications for an E46 M3 is a pair of BMW headers. Much like the non-M E46, the factory headers are inherently restrictive. To eliminate this issue, the better

aftermarket headers create optimum flow by mimicking the famed design of E46 M3 CSL headers. This design requires the use of equal-length individual header runners to ensure consistent exhaust scavenging. Not to mention, when matched up with a free-flowing, unrestrictive exhaust – the difference in performance is unmatched. Unfortunately, like most other aftermarket BMW headers, the E46 M3 applications are meant for off road and/or race use only.

N52 Header

The header for one of BMW’s latest inline 6-cylinder variations, the N52, is actually quite different from some of the older headers. Instead of being comprised of two separate pieces, the N52 header is one complete unit. One of the most difficult things to do with the N52 is gain additional power. With an aftermarket BMW header for the N52, making power is difficult no more. What makes this header unique is its versatility to fit on not only 128i and 328i N52 applications, but the 528i as well.

Conclusion

Luckily, a nice set of free-flowing headers no longer costs an arm, leg and first born child. As newer model BMW are released, prices of aftermarket parts like BMW headers fall in relation to the car’s current value. Now, take this inside information on aftermarket headers and apply it.
