BMCE Bank of Africa has acquired a reputation as the market leader in this area, driven by a conviction that the financial sector has a fundamental role to play in sustainable economic development.

As a pioneering bank, it was the first financial institution in Morocco to sign the United Nations Global Compact in 2016. The Bank has already incorporated into its day-to- day business all ten fundamental principles which underpin the Global Compact in areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Established in 1995, BMCE Bank Foundation promotes education in rural areas through its Medersat.com programme as well as contributing to environmental protection.

The Medersat.com programme aims to combat illiteracy, make it easier for children in rural areas in Morocco’s sixteen regions to gain access to schooling, support innovation in teaching methods so as to improve the educational system at the pre-school and primarily school levels.

BMCE Bank Foundation for Education and the Environment also assumes responsibility for its decisions and actions and the impact that the latter have on society and on the environment, resulting in a series of practical initiatives which benefit rural areas.

BMCE Bank Foundation action is also entirely consistent with the National Initiative for HumanDevelopment. Particular emphasis is placed on community development by promoting, in particular, income-generating projects and providing drinking water and electricity to village communities under the Medersat.com schools programmes.

The African Entrepreneurship Award was inaugurated by BMCE Bank Group’s Chairman Othman Benjelloun, in November 2014 at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Marrakesh. With an annual USD 1 million prize money, the Award is intended to promote entrepreneurship in Africa by rewarding projects which have a social and sustainable impact.

In addition to the monetary aspect, the AEA also provides a unique post-award feature, which enables the award-winning entrepreneurs to benefit from personalised mentoring at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey.
