BLUE ZEBRA Art&English Workshops for 3-7 year-old children in PARIS BLUE ZEBRA Art&English Workshops are Montessori inspired workshops created by Camila Salame, artist and Art&English teacher (Native English Speaker) ifwith more than 10 years of teaching experience mainly in Bilingual Montessori Schools in Paris as well and in Art Museums and Art Summer Camps in the United States. Coming from and artistic background and developing a unique artistic practice, Camila embraces the Maria Montessori view on creativity in her workshops as a natural ability that is established through the process of the child’s development of intelligence, sense of self and personality. In every workshop art and creativity are incorporated into English language learning activities focused on a subject introduced to the children through a story.

Workshops are divided in 3 parts:

1 - Mime & Movement

For Maria Montessori, movement and intellectual development are inseparable, provided that the action that occurs is connected with the mental activity going on in the child. Every BLUE ZEBRA workshop starts with a full Head to Toes Body Warm up continued by fun Actions-Verbs Games such as Miming animals, performing Action Songs, group games, lead breathing exercises and dance, to teach children to connect words to actions through movement, allow an energetic release as well as first interaction social skills to build self-

2 - Circle Time - Vocabulary, Singing & Story Time

In Montessori, phonemic awareness, ability to hear sounds in spoken words (phonemes) is critical to learning to read and communicate successfully and it is greatly transmitted through singing.Counting Songs and Nursery Rhymes are a very important part of Circle Time.

In every BLUE ZEBRA workshop there will be new songs to discover and learn. With the use of colorful and attractive visuals, Circle Times introduce the songs and all the vocabulary that the children will discover later when reading the story focusing on sounds. This will help them prepare their full understanding through repetition while enriching the child’ vocabulary while working in their recognition of phonemes.

Children do not have to be able to read in order to learn a song, for songs are both spoken and heard. Filled with rhymes, alliteration, and different sound patterns, they actually celebrate the sounds of language. Singing songs over and over again helps children become consciously aware of sounds. All of these skills are essential when learning to read and write.Each workshops will introduce a new fundamental theme songs and vocabulary inspired in the story; Colors, Numbers, Animal Names, Feelings, Clothes, Parts of the house, Nature, Days of the Week and much more!

3 - Arts Works - Creativity & Imagination

In Montessori, Art activities teach children how to develop fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination. In fact the role of art in the Montessori pedagogy is to develop creativity through practical application, and knowledge of the real.Creating time is a very special one for Camila so BLUE ZEBRA’s artistic approach is a fundamental part of the workshop. Inspired in the story that was read during Circle Time, each child will develop a unique artwork with beautiful quality and carefully selected material. Through the use of natural materials, up-cycled ones and well as varied sensory textures, each workshop will try to introduce a difference sensory experience, very important in Montessori learning.

Painting, constructing, cutting, gluing, making collages with different materials, folding, using clay, beads or threads, awakens in children different sensory experiences that boost their hand skills.In CLASSROOM WORKSHOPS, each child has its own working space, either an individual table or a big table shared with another child is set in an orderly manner in the room. Materials are laid separately on another table and children are invited to help give them out and participate actively in the preparation of the activity. Having a neat creative space is very important in Montessori and gives perfect condition for imagination to flow.

Furthermore, in BLUE ZEBRA’s workshops children will develop independence, concentration, and sense of curiosity.

Last by not least; Camila’s philosophy of learning and creating is FUN! FUN! FUN! Children who are having fun in the workshops will be happy to continue learning and creating. BLUE ZEBRA’s workshops are playful and arty time sharing with other kids either learning English as a foreign language or expressing in their mother tongue.

Following the workshops, parents will receive a full feedback with photos and links for you to feel involved and able to share and participate in your child’s learning process as well.

GROUP CLASSROOM WORKSHOPS

2 hours Workshops in small groups up to 10 children 3-7 years old. If there are children older than 6 , the group can welcome 11-12 children max.

Take place in Private schools in Paris.

VISIO 1 TO 1 or SMALL GROUP VISIO LESSONS via GOOGLE MEET

At home lessons based in active interaction with the child /children by the use of visuals, songs, games using material that the children can easily to find home and more, these lessons will follow a Lesson Planning carefully conceived to introduce new underpinning themes and vocabulary while reviewing all the previous ones though the use of simple questions. This helps children remember what they learned during the previous lesson and use it in a simple interaction with me. These lessons will follow the BLUE ZEBRA VISIO Lesson Planning communicated to the parents of the children who sign up for these lessons.

AT HOME WORKSHOPS ~1 hour , 1-1 lesson at your home, with resources + materials.~1 hour, SMALL GROUP (min 2 up to 5 max) at a family home with resources + materials

BLUE ZEBRA BIRTHDAY WORKSHOPS1h30 Games & Creation activity. Take place at your house or the place you rent to celebrate your child’s birthday. Min 5 and up to 10 children. The cost of the workshop depends on the number of children participating.

MEET BLUE ZEBRAMeet Camila

I am a very motivated, creative and dynamic teacher and have been teaching children for the last 10 years to children between the ages of 3 and 7. I have lived and taught in the United States where I partly grew up in and in France, where I live since 2010. I started teaching children back when I lived in Colombia. I have worked in the Art Museums as the head of children workshops, especially created for each exhibition. I enjoyed teaching to be sensitive to an artistic expression and was captivated by children’s amazing capacity of amazement and awe. Their way of looking at art and the world was so enriching! I understood then that teaching children was also learning from them, and in that sense, teaching is sharing and bonding. This is what motivates me the most. I love to share what I know with children and to learn from them. Soon after teaching art and English together I realized that my way of teaching through creative and fun and always changing activities, was much enjoyed by the children who would do my workshops and always come back with great joy. Children’s happiness is key in teaching for me. A good learning environment and a caring teaching make children feel at home and I believe that it is this feeling of protection along of course, the limits that they need to learn, what help them to grow and learn in a healthy and caring atmosphere. Children who are happy are happy to learn too!
