Dear Grandma Ruth,
It was great being home and seeing everyone at the Strawberry Festival. I love our Summer gatherings with kin folk and the great meals that accompany them. I am working to get Aunt Greta’s cast iron buttermilk cornbread on the menu at the ACC, but I don’t believe they will go for the collard greens. Summer at the ACC moves at a slower pace, but we have a big party coming up called “Summer Whites.” They have great tasting white wines with hors d’oeuvres (small yummy bites), the perfect way to celebrate a nice summer evening with friends.
I still remember the “rest period” on Grandma Lily’s farm and Doc Minton talking about the importance of rest for the animals and the buildings. The Athletic Club has a rest period each August for the same purpose. Doctor Angel Mitchell, who manages the ACC Clubhouse (the old girl), gives great care to her. Besides restoring the ceiling in the basketball court, Doc Angel and her team will be performing maintenance on a number of items that often go unnoticed. We are very blessed to have Doc and her team care for the old girl.
LD and I look forward to seeing you and Uncle Russ for the big fireworks show coming to town. We will have to stop by the Club and see the “Queen of Cocktails” Jodie Hlavachek (not related to the basketball player). She makes a great refreshing drink and it is a darn bit better than Cousin Johnny’s drink slinging at the VFW.
Before we know it, Fall will be here and we will be in full swing at the ACC. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. I have come to realize that there are good people in our village and here in the Big City…we just need to take a minute to slow down and visit.
See you in a couple of weeks.

We are thrilled to announce that The ACC has recently been awarded the status of Distinguished Club by Board Room Magazine.
We are particularly proud of this award as the Distinguished Club designation is the only merit-based award program in the private club industry, and because of that, one of the most prestigious and valuable designations a private club can achieve. The ACC’s Distinguished Club status was earned through a process where every aspect of our club was evaluated. The sum of the evaluation positioned the ACC among clubs in the country with the highest levels of member experience.
As defined by Distinguished Clubs, “Member Experience” is that special combination of “Qualities” that a private club provides its members. It is not just the quality of service, health of the membership roster, the facilities, or of the product provided; it is also the quality of the staff, as well as the overall club governance that is delivered. The most important quality, however, is the quality of the intangible. While difficult to measure, the latter is comprised of those meaningful moments experienced, the members befriended, and the memorable events attended.
In addition to the pride of being recognized as a Distinguished Club, there are other benefits for ACC management and membership. Staff and committees will have access to industry best standards that have been collected from over several thousand club visits throughout the world, which will enhance our ability to offer an even better member experience. In the coming months, we plan to announce another benefit that will allow you, as an ACC member, to access some of the top clubs in the country through an expanded reciprocal club network only available to Distinguished Club members.

July is Member Appreciation Month at the ACC! We are so thankful for our members, from those that have been at the Club for 40 years to those who have just joined and are jumping right in. We have an engaged and thoughtful membership that keeps the Club moving forward. It’s time to say “thank you” for all that you do to make the ACC a great place to be!
Throughout this issue of the magazine, you’ll find a few perks to enjoy throughout the month of July. Check out page 7 for features in Carmichael’s Bar and Lounge and read more about the Athletics fitness challenge on page 10 that is complimentary for members to participate in. Plus, the ACC Spa and the ACC Cafe are partnering together to help you relax and refresh during the month.
On the membership side of things, it’s your chance to “double your rewards” for sponsoring new members to join the ACC. The Sponsor Reward program works like this: every time a current member sponsors a new member to join, that current member receives a $100 ACC gift card. During the month of July, the Sponsor Reward is doubled, giving current members the chance to earn a $200 ACC gift card for sponsoring a new member to join the Club! The new member must apply and be approved for membership during the month of July. We look forward to welcoming your friends and family to the Club during this exciting time!
