Blue Moon Crescent

by Cath Ward

A crescent shaped shawl with a garter stitch ground, based on a bead pattern and a Vandyke

3.5 mm needles

1 skein 2 ply lace weight. (Skein Vintage Lace in Pastel Sky used here - now sadly

discontinued).

All-over Bead section:

Cast on 7 stitches.

Work rows 1-11 from chart 1, then repeat rows 8-11 three times. The edging stitches at each

side increase the piece by 6 stitches every 2 rows. You will have worked 23 rows in total and

have 5 complete 'beads' up the centre of the piece.

Knit 4 rows, maintaining the increases at either end.

Row 1: K2, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2.

Row 2: K2, (k, yo, k) in 1, k to last 3 sts, (k, yo, k) in 1, k2.

Row 3: K2, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2.

Row 4: K2, (k, yo, k) in 1, k to last 3 sts, (k, yo, k) in 1, k2.

Work all-over bead pattern another 28 rows, starting from row 8, until you have 7 complete

beads up the centre.

Knit 4 rows, including increases at either end, as above.

Work all-over bead pattern another 36 rows, starting from row 8, until there are 9 beads up the

centre.

Bead Motif Border section:

Using chart 2, work the 12 rows. The bead motif is worked 25 times in total.

Lace section:

Continuing on from the end of the previous row, turn and loosely cast on 17 stitches. Work chart

2, noting that with the final stitch on each pattern row, k2tog tbl, knit one lace stitch and one

border stitch together. Repeat chart 2 from row 6 to the end 14 times. Work chart 2 once more

casting off loosely on the row after the final k2tog tbl. There are 16 points to the lace in total.

Block into shape.
