golf team,” said Scarborough, who took three years off after graduation and worked as a club pro at the Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood and the River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst.

DEPAUL REPRESENTS AT 35TH ANNUAL CHICAGO MARATHON A brisk temperature of 42 degrees and a 7:20 a.m. start time didn’t deter former DePaul athletes from racing in this year’s 35th an-nual Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 7. At least 25 former Blue Demon athletes and staff members competed in the 26.2-mile race.

One of the most memorable moments oc-curred when former track athlete Stephanie Hughes finished in 71st place overall in the women’s field---57th among American women and 11th in her age group. She finished with a time of 2:59:33.

“Crossing the finish line and seeing that 2:59 on the clock made every struggle, every pain just disappear,” Hughes said. “The best part of it all was getting a big hug from coach Pat Savage just after crossing the line, knowing I made him proud.”

NATE BLACKMAN FIRST AMSTRONG AWARD WINNER

DePaul Track Hall of Famer Nate Blackman was honored with first ever James Armstrong award from Retired Teachers Associa-tion of Chicago.

Named for the first president of RTAC, the award is pre-sented for outstanding service to the organization. “I am proud to be the first recipient,” Nate said. He retired from

his RTAC directorship earlier this year.

DEPAUL SOCCER ALUM JACK CUMMINS PROFILED

CBR News spoke with Jack Cummins -- a co-owner and until recently VP of Business Affairs at the company who has just been named Archaia’s President and COO. In that post, he takes over for P.J. Bickett who is shifting to a role as Chairman of the company.

DEPAUL BASKETBALL ALUMNI ERIC WALLACE PROFILED

Eric Wallace is in Melbourne, Australia, where he just took home “Best International Performer” honors at the AFL combine. He never did get the offer to play overseas basketball, but he was chosen by Draft Express founder Jonathan Givony -- who was brought on as a consultant by the league to help identify American prospects -- to attend a camp in Los Angeles for potential

Aussie football players.Wallace, 23, didn’t know anything about the AFL. He had flipped through the channels and seen it once or twice, but he didn’t know the rules. Wallace had some experience back in middle school playing football and he messed around a bit with soccer, but this was foreign territory. It was an oval field with 18 players on each side. There was plenty of kicking, no shortage of contact. No pads.“I didn’t know the rules,” Wallace said. “I was confused.” But Wallace stayed up until the wee hours of the morning watching games on his computer, try-ing to learn the rules. He studied the players, the history -- in preparation for the late-August Los Angeles tryout.

BOOTH NAMED DIRECTOR OF SCOUTING FOR NEW ORLEANS HORNETS

David Booth, the No. 2 career scorer in DePaul University history, was recently named the Director of Scouting for the New Orleans Hornets.He worked four seasons as a scout for the Memphis Grizzlies, returned to DePaul for two years on the coaching staff, then spent the

past two seasons as the Hornets’ Midwest regional scout, based in Chi-cago. “It’s a natural progression for me, and I’m excited about it,” Booth said of the promotion.He will oversee all of the Hornets’ player-evaluation staff, dealing with American college players, overseas talent and potential aquisitions active in the NBA.

OCTOBER 23, 2012 Today In Blue Demon History:On October 23rd, 2007 The DePaul volleyball team had an impressive 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-17) victory over Chicago State. Setter Christy Landschoot piloted DePaul to a season-high .345 attack percentage as she dished out 43 assists and found her favorite targets in Fielder and Drabant. Fiedler directed the Blue Demon’s offensive with a .688 hitting percentage on 12 kills and added a team-high four total blocks to the cause. Click Here for the full story. Men’s Soccer: When David Leverentz and Antonio Aguilar walk onto! Wish Field on Friday for the final time in their careers, each will be a far cry from the soccer players that first set foot there four seasons ago. Along with Brian Schultz and Austin Toth, Leverentz and Aguilar will be honored on Senior Day as DePaul faces USF in a BIG EAST Conference match.

DE PAUL ON-LINE AUCTION RANKS IN THE TOP 10 In February, 2012, DePaul Athletic Development kicked-off an on-line auction to support scholarship donations.The auction is a partnership between DePaul Athletics and its website provider: cbssports.com. After finishing last year ranked No. 24 in sales in less than half of a year of operations, the on-line auction site ranks No. 9 in items sold in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012-13. Each week seven-to-eight new “Blue Demon Treasures” are posted for the auction. In all, more than $10,000 has been distributed to DePaul Athletics Scholarship funds.
