Human brain is the wonderful creation of God.

But we loss the knowledge of a brain after the death of man.

Blue brain is the name of world’s first virtual brain.

IBM and EPFL, Switzerland is developing blue brain.

INTRODUCTION3

Page 4: Blue brain

It is a machine that can function as human brain.

Main aim is to upload human brain into machine.

So after the death of a person we will not lose the knowledge which can be used for the development of human society.

BLUE BRAIN4

Page 5: Blue brain

What is virtual brain? Artificial brain which acts as the brain.

It is possible by a super computer and an interface between human brain and this artificial one.

By this interface data stored in human brain can be uploaded into the computer.

5

Page 6: Blue brain

Why we need virtual brain?

Intelligence is an inborn quality.

To keep the brain and intelligence alive even after the death.

Significant impact on medical field.

For people with short memory.

6

Page 7: Blue brain

How it is possible? It is possible by the use of small robots known as the

nanobots.

These robots are small enough to travel throughout our circulatory system.

Will monitor activity of brain by traveling into the spine and brain.

They will provide an interface with computer.

Sensory Input :-

Receiving input such as sound ,image, etcthrough sensory cell .

Interpretation :-

Interpretation of the received input by the brain by defining states of neurons in the brain.

Motor Output:-

Receiving of electric responses from the brain to perform any action .

A COMPARITIVE STUDY

Through the natural neurons.

By different states of the neurons in the brain.

Through the silicon chip or artificial neurons.

By a set of bits in the set of register.

10

Page 11: Blue brain

Through the natural neurons.

Through arithmetic and logical calculations.

Through permanent states of neurons.

Through the silicon chip.

Through arithmetic and logical calculation and artificial intelligence.

Through Secondary memory.

IBM, in partnership with scientists at Switzerland’s Ecole Polytechnique Federal De Lausanne’s(EPFL) Brain and Mind Institute started blue brain project at 2005.

Henry Markram is the director.

Felix Schumann and Sean Hill are co-directors.

Using blue gene super computer running in Michael Hinn’s Neuronsoftware.

BLUE BRAIN PROJECT12

Page 13: Blue brain

Blue gene is a 4-rack system that has 4,096 nodes, equal to 8,192 CPUs with a peak performance of 22.4 TFLOPS.

The Blue Brain simulation uses one microprocessor for each of the 10,000 neurons in the cortical column of a rat's cerebral cortex.

It helps to build a brain microcircuit, in order to scale it in human brain.

13

2002 : Henry Markram founds Brain Mind Institute at EPFL.

2005 : IBM and EPFL agree to launch Blue Brain Project.

2006: Biologically valid simulation of auto-generated cortical column.

2007: Modeling and simulation of 1st rat cortical column.

2008: Cortical column constructions and simulations.

PROJECT TIMELINE14

Page 15: Blue brain

2009 : Blue Gene/L replaced by Blue Gene/P.

2014 : Cellular-level simulation of entire rat brain, Neuron simulation software ported to DEEP(Dynamical Exascale Entry Platform) Cluster-Booster type system.

2020 : Exascale simulation start on DEEP Cluster-Booster production system.

15

2023 : Cellular-level simulation of entire human brain.

ADVANTAGES

Remembering things without any effort.

Making decision without the presence of a person.

Using intelligence of a person after the death .

Understanding the activities of animals .

Allowing the deaf to hear via direct nerve

stimulation. A solution for many psychological diseases.

17

Page 18: Blue brain

DISADVANTAGES

We become dependent upon the computer.

Others may use technical knowledge

against us.

Another fear is found with respect to

human cloning.

A very costly procedure of regaining the

memory back.

Computer viruses will be a threat.

18

Page 19: Blue brain

A model of entire brain at the cellular level will probably take the next decade.

Study in brain function and malfunction from accurate models of brain.

Further in the future, the real dreams would be the realization of the “brain-in-computer and chip-in-brain” arrangement.

This is just ’blink of an eye’…there’s lot more to come…

FUTURE PERSPECTIVES19

Page 20: Blue brain

Gathering and Testing of 100 years of data.

Cracking the neural code.

A novel tool for drug discovery for brain disorders.

APPLICATIONS20

Page 21: Blue brain

We will be able to transfer ourselves into computers at some point.

It will bring both benefits and harm to human society .

Eventually aim of applying terrific computer power to the simulation of an entire brain.

Very soon this technology will be highly accepted whole over the world.
