to D$D and uses phase change recording technology to provide the storage

necessitates a new type of disk construction with a !1mm cover layer to
protect the data surface! .s with existing 9 technology, >D uses non
contact recording to provide roust and reliale performance!

"he Bin-ray Disc using Hlue-violet laser achieves over %-hour
digital high definition video recording on a 1%cm diameter 0DD$D sie
phase change optical disc!
"he Blu-ray Disc enales the recording, rewriting and play ack of
up to %* gigaytes (+B) of data on a single sided single layer 1%cm
0DD$4) sie disc using a :nm lue-violet laser! By employing a short
wavelength lue violet laser, the Blu Disc successfully minimies its eam
spot sie y making@ the numerical aperture (2.) on a field lens that
converges the laser !;! 4n addition, y using a disc structure with a !1mm
optical transmittance protection layer, the Blu-ray Disc diminishes
aerration caused y disc tilt! "his also allows for disc etter readout and an
increased recording density! "he Blu-ray Disc@s tracking pitch is reduced to
!&%um, almost half of that of a regular D$D, achieving up to %* +B high-
density recording on a single sided disc!
Because the Blu-ray Disc utilies gloal standard A9/3+-%
