• At the turn of the millennium, some traditional media outfits introduced their respective online affiliates.

• Personal blogs were merely online diaries or means of expressing opinions.

“independent” online media outfits.• Eventually, some other passionate bloggers and

journos co-founded “indie” news sites.

Challenges

• “What kind of blog is this?”• “Blog lang yung sa’yo.”• “We are just a startup. Theirs is already established.”• “Should we bloggers follow media ethics too?”

Solution to the fourth challenge

• While it’s not a requirement for them to abide with the rules for traditional publications, bloggers should follow media ethics too.

• Blogs have indeed emerged as the new wave of news outfits, but aligned with that is the same responsibility the bloggers inherited which was bestowed on the trad media reporters.
