: A comparative Analysis

Blog, initially known as weblog, has emerged as a democratic medium for the people across the world. Scribes of print and electronic media are exploring this new media too. Since, Hindi journalists are concerned as agenda setters in this country, it is important to know what is their view point, expressed in blogs. For this, researchers conducted qualitative content analysis of the Hindi media journalists, of prominent media houses. This research compares the blogs of Print and electronic media journalists and presents its findings.

Abstract

Amitabh Srivastava, Agya Itam Pandey and Pashyanti Shukla(January, 2013) ‘A Content Analysis of Journalists' Blogs with Special Reference to Driving Forces for Blog Writing’ in which they have told the modern world considers blogs a democratic podium for the common masses because weblogs have provided common masses a forum in which to express their concerns the question arises of why mainstream journalists are showing keen interest in blogs because they already have their own media such as newspapers and television. What are the driving forces responsible behind this interest?

Marcos Palacios (2003), online journalism by journalist, in this marcus said public access to a global medium without publishers and the resulting popularization of the blogs have meant that one of the central debates has been about the relation between weblogs and journalism.

Qualitative Content AnalysisCriteria : Sr. Journalists (Editorial Positions)2 from electronic media and two from print

media, Randomley selection of two each from top ten medium based on TRP & IRS

Sample Size : 60 (15 current blogs of every journalist)

Time duration : 6 months

All the blogs of Print & Electronic Media (Hindi)journalists are focusing on Political issues. Reason might be that their respective media houses are not giving them enough opportunity to express their political opinion.

Coverage on Social issues is almost half of the political news. It is an alarming trend as journalism is having its base in society rather than politics.

Conclusion

Almost all the Hindi journalists are avoiding to write on personal issues. Normally it is just opposite to common men blogs.

Hindi Electronic Media journalists are more focused on political issues than Hindi Print media journalists, who still showed their concern about society in their blogs. It means situation is more challenging for electronic media journalists
