Second Quarter 2008

President’s Corner We need you to send us an e-mail! Our neighborhood currently hosts a group site on Yahoo! Groups. This is a great place to stay current on the events that are happening in our neighborhood, and you can also find important documents in-cluding a copy of our Request for Architectural Approval form. Requesting access to the site is easy. E-mail [email protected] and then look for the return e-mail granting you access to the site. We would like to increase the number of members so please send us your e-mail!

At our most recent Annual Meeting in November, the topic of additional street lighting in our neighbor-hood was discussed. A number of our neighbors feel that our streets are too dark at night. Do you share this concern? We would like to study this topic more and see what kind of options we have and better understand the cost for the options proposed. We are currently seeking four volunteers from the neighborhood to serve on a committee to research the options and bring back a recommendation for the Board to consider. Please contact me at 704-664-2879 if you would like to participate.

Brad Jones

Yard of the Month It’s Back!! We all take pride in having a neighborhood we can be proud of. Having a nice looking yard is a huge part of how visitors to our neighborhood perceive The Woodlands. Let your neighbors know how much you appreciate all their hard work by nominating their lawn. Or nominate yourself!

The rules are: • Contest runs from 04/01/08 to 9/30/08 • Based on curb appeal of front yard • May only win once per calendar year • Board members not eligible

Board members make the final decision. A photo from each winner will appear in the newsletter. Our Yard of the Month sign will be in your front lawn that month. Winners receive a $50 gift certificate to Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.

Nominations may be submitted to any Block Captain and must be received by the 25th of each month.

Architectural Approvals Any time you are going to change the outside of your home, you must seek approval from your HOA Board as stated in the protective covenants. These changes include but are not limited to: additions, porches, decks, patios, sheds, fences, swimming pools, and major landscaping.

The Architectural Approval form is available from your Block Captain or any board member. The Archi-tectural Review Committee (ARC) will review your request and respond within 30 days.

February Reviews/Approvals Tom George | 289 River Birch Circle 16 x 32 pool/water fall. Will submit for a fence at a later date.

March Reviews/Approvals Mike Oliva | 194 River Birch Circle Install brick around existing front windows that now just have wood. Add three rows of brick and a solar glove to existing brick mailbox.

Brad Burry | 341 River Birch Circle 14 x 18 wood deck with rock pillars and rod iron railing.

Covenants & Restrictions These guidelines were put in place by the developer of The Woodlands to protect all of us and uphold the value of our homes. You should have received a copy when you took possession of your home. If not, please contact Brad Jones and he will make sure you receive one. In every issue we will highlight one or two guidelines.

Fences may be a maximum height of four feet. No chain link fences are allowed and your fence may not extend past the front façade of your home.

WARNING! Hunting within the city limits is against the law. It has been brought to the attention of the H.O.A. board that someone sat up a deer stand and is bow hunting in the wooded area of our neighbor-hood. Not only is this against the law, but it is a potential danger to the children and pets that live and play near by.

Way to Go! Kurt and Beth Kahne are excited about the upcoming arri-val of their second grandchild in September.

Alexia Martin made the A Honor Roll two quarters in a row at Mt. Ulla Elementary.

Grayson Fleming received two platinum’s and three high gold’s competing as a Star Chaser for Absolutely Stars.

Joel and Sherry Freeze love golf so much that they named their new family member Putter. Putter is an adorable Shih Tzu and Pomeranian mix puppy.

Carter Gamble was named student of the month for kind-ness at South Elementary.

Taylor Born was promoted to Monkee Maniacs at the Gym Company.

Maggie and Riley Jones Odyssey of the Mind team fin-ished 3rd in their division in the most recent competition held at Wingate University on March 8th.

James Robustelli received his black belt from Lake Norman ATA Leadership Academy.

Send us your good news! Deadline is May 15th. Please send to [email protected].
