Experience life during World War II, with a day of fun family activities at Coventry Cathedral, Coventry Transport Museum and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. Experience life during World War II at this very special event commemorating the anniversary of the Coventry Blitz. On Saturday 17th November, we’ll be turning back the clock at three of Coventry’s most iconic sites, to offer a variety of family activities aimed at giving children a glimpse into the past, to see what their lives might have been like during the 1940s. With different activities at each location, you can spend the whole day enjoying make do and mend, wartime cooking, codebreaking and first aid, collecting stamps on this sheet for each activity you complete – or simply drop in and have a go at one or two. Everyone who collects three or more stamps will receive a special Blitz Family Day badge, and can enter a prize draw to win a Blitz Goody Bag! Ready Steady Rations10.30am to 3.30pm

(every half hour, except 1pm)

Led by a volunteer from the Ministry

of Health, get some great advice on

how to get the most out of your rations.

Vote on which is your favourite!

Lord Woolaton Pie10am to 4pm (drop in any time)

The Lord Woolaton Pie was an

essential recipe to keep the nation

healthy whilst rationing was in place

– now is your chance to invent your

own pie for the war effort!

Ministry of Safety

Air Raid Training10.30am to 3.30pm

(every half hour, except 1pm)

Be prepared and ensure you know

exactly what to do during an air raid.

For training purposes, you will be

handling real wartime objects and

have a visit to the medieval undercroft.

St John’s Ambulance10am to 4pm (drop in any time)

Visit the Casualty Clearing Station,

where members of the St John

Ambulance will be preparing for

casualties. Do your bit for the war

effort by being trained in bandaging

in case of air raids.

do and mend, and make the most of

your everyday items.

Find out about the war artists, and have a go at creating

your own wartime masterpiece.

Learn about the frontline in Stalingrad, through the artworkof a soldier – and recreate his charcoal Mother & Child.
