In what ways does your media product

use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real media products?

Page 2: Blhasjdas

My magazine has used conventions such as the page layout a masthead with a model layered over the masthead, a list of bands on the front

cover, sell line, exclusive information. My masthead looked very professional.

Mise-en-Scene

• I think the Mise-en-scene of my images are similar to the conventions of other music magazines. I used different backgrounds such as putting my model live on stage, similar to those used in magazines like “Kerrang!”. The backgrounds I used fit in well with the concept of my magazine because they give off a very ‘Rock’ feeling as a outrageous and rebellious attitude. Also this adds to the fact that the majority of my images follow the conventions of magazines by displaying the band as moody, serious and care-free, rebellious and outrageous. This is portrayed by them as they’re not looking directly at the camera in the majority of the photos showing their ‘don’t care’ attitude but also in my DPS my model is staring right at the camera and looking down as I used a low angle shot, this show his dominance and power, which other magazines such as “Kerrang!” use for the same effect.

Costume and Props

• The costumes and props used throughout “Hells Throne” are conventional. This is because the artists and bands in my magazine had costumes which included guitars, most models had long hair a convention in rock magazine for rock artists(stereotypical view). All of these items could be found in real music magazines. In addition to this, the props features are commonly used in existing magazines as they are staples of the rock star image - for example the black fender guitar I used on my front cover.

Language Used

• The language used in my magazine follows conventions of a real music magazine by covering similar topics in the questions like exclusive content, interviews, how bands/artists came to their success, the weeks top news etc. All of these topics could be found in a real music magazine aimed at people in the late teens and early 20’s.

Layout Design• The layout of my music magazine is

very conventional. This is evident on the front cover and contents page which displays many things which other music magazines conventionally d, for example a main image is used in my contents page which is the highlight of the magazine with other page numbers below with titles above them on top of a black banner. As well as this, my front cover follows layout conventions by having the masthead at the top of the page, a list of bands down the right-hand side and a main headline across the middle.

How my magazine fits into the music genre.

• The genre of my music magazine is ‘Classic Rock. This is quite clear throughout my magazine but especially because of the props I used such as the electric Guitar and of course my models. My masthead especially made it very clear what type of genre my music magazine covered as the name ‘Hells Throne’ relates to Classic Rock as most songs in this genre are either about Hell or Sex, also the fact that it is used in a flaming font adds to the fact that it is a classic Rock magazine. In addition to this, the bands listed on the front cover and in the contents page are of the same genre. As well as this, the use of Orange, Red, Black and White throughout my magazine (Classic rock Colours) and the mise-en-scene of the images justifies that “Hells Throne” is a Classic Rock magazine.
