Farewell to a Dedicated Employee

Over the last six years, our parish has changed

size, shape and mission. We merged and

unmerged. We lost parishioners and gained some.

Our school merged and then closed. We almost

opened a discount store and then we didn’t. We

began new ministries. Job descriptions changed

along the way, especially for Katie and Carol.

Katie was working a day and a half a week at

WPCA. Now she does PSR, mobile pantry, visits

the elderly and more in addition to her other

duties. Linda does finances now in addition to

being office manager. Carol took over Virtus

training, meet and greet, renewal, marketing at

local hotels, ministry to the LGBTQ community,

the bulletin and general office help when Linda

was doing bills and payroll.

The ripple effect of these changes has been a

challenge. Job descriptions continue to change.

Our budget does not allow for us to keep so much

full time staff. Regrettably we have to say

goodbye to Carol.

Carol has been a faithful, loyal and

conscientious employee. Often she would stay

long after her hours were in to complete a project

or finish up her work. Her attention to detail will

be missed. She made Renewal happen, designing

a format to fit our parish needs. That was such a

galvanizing force when we first merged. Under

her leadership Renewal called forth gifts from this

new parish and team members built new and

lasting relationships.

Nurturing relationships and extending

hospitality are Carol trademarks. Many of you

will say that she is the person who sat next to you

and welcomed you when you first walked into

Blessed Trinity. She is the one who greeted you

by name the next week and introduced you to

others. She is the one who followed up with a

phone call to you when she missed seeing you on

weekends.

Carol is a valued parishioner. Although she

and her family live in Wadsworth (yes, that

Wadsworth, the one that is an hour away!) she

tells me that she will continue to belong to

Blessed Trinity although maybe not every week.

It is quite the drive. But Blessed Trinity is home

for her. She and her family have many friends

here. That is a tribute to all of you as much as it is

to Carol’s commitment to our parish ministry and

mission statement.

Our parish will have a farewell reception for

Carol next Sunday, June 26 after the 9:00am

and 11:00am Masses in Fogarty Hall. Please

plan to stop by and extend your gratitude to her

for her many years of service and ministry to our

parish. Carol hopes to continue volunteering as a

facilitator for the Pray and Chat sessions with

young parents on Sunday mornings. We will

continue to see her around.

Cardinal Blasé Cupich of Chicago, said in a statement about Orlando:

Our prayers and hearts are with the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando, their families and our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.

We are grateful to the first responders and civilians who heroically put themselves in harm’s way, providing an enduring reminder of what compassion and bravery look like–even in the face of such horror and danger.

In response to hatred, we are called to sow love. In response to violence, peace. And, in response to intol-erance, tolerance.

The people of the Archdiocese of Chicago stand with the victims and their loved ones, and reaffirm our com-mitment, with Pope Francis, to address the causes of such tragedy, including easy access to deadly weap-ons. We can no longer stand by and do nothing.
