St. John captures the essence of what kind of love is expected from us toward our neighbor and those in need as he opens our Second Reading with “Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” Jesus made that point several times in His own teachings. It follows the old adage that “Actions speak louder than words.”
We have pointed out numerous times that being a good steward requires action. It may be easy for us come to an understanding of what it means to love one another; and additionally, we may speak of doing it; but the true measure is what we do, how we live our lives.
The best examples of stewardship of that we may be aware in our parishes and community involve what we see and experience in others. That is the most effective way to be taught and it is the best way to teach others. Do it and live it.
That is John’s point is it not? He continues his instructions in the Second Reading by saying, “We should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded us.” The Norwegian playwright and poet Henrik Ibsen, who had a great appreciation for the written word, once stated, “A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as one deed.”
The point of Jesus’ Parable of the Two Sons (Mt 21) in which one son says he will do his father’s will but does not while the other says he will not obey, but repents and does what his father asked, is quite clear that deeds mean more than intentions. Copyright © 2018www.THECATHOLICSTEWARD.com

Children’s Book of the week: “Saint Francis and Brother Duck” “Fun and informative! See the life of Francis come to life as never before in this colorfully illustrated graphic novel based on the real-life events of the saint’s life. Set in the mountains of Italy, Francis saves the life of an innocent duck, the only fictitious character in the story, and the two become each other’s inspiration. As they grow in faith and friendship, Francis recognizes in Br. Duck everything that he desires in living the Gospel life: humility, poverty, and a childlike imagination. Readers of all ages will enjoy the humor as well as the ageless wisdom offered as the story of Francis’s life is vividly told, scene-by-scene.” The Blessed Trinity Gift Store Hours: Wednesday* 3:00pm – 6:00pm *10% off all regular priced items. Please email [email protected] to register and reserve your spot for training or if you have any questions. Space is limited to 12 students and attendance is required for each of the 4 training sessions. THANK YOU I would like to thank all of the people who donated time, talents, candy, eggs, and breakfast with the bunny decorations. It takes a lot of people to put on this egg hunt and Breakfast with the Bunny. We were very grateful this year for all of your generous donations of candy to fill the eggs. This year our team didn’t have to buy any candy as it was all donated. Also I am especially very grateful for those parishioners who helped fill our 3000 plus eggs!! SLA again donated the food for the breakfast, so take time to thank SLA. For the fourth year in a row, Ms. Amy Fouchea from SLA donated her time and talent to make and help serve the breakfast. She is always a cheerful giver and we are grateful to her. And a big thank you to our Life Teen, Edge and Catholic Heart Teens who helped with the Friday night set up, Holy Saturday’s egg hunt, Breakfast with the Bunny and set up for Easter Sunday Mass. Thank you to Liz Cook for making sure the sound system worked in the parish hall. It truly takes a parish family to put on an event like this. Jane Hoesterey
