Principal’s Message

Term 3, Weeks 3 and 4

It’s hard to believe another fortnight has passed and with it, another fortnight of learning. Students have continued to

embrace what is being taught and thrived across multiple environments, including learning as individuals, in small groups and within

much larger contexts. They have continued to learn in classrooms, outside environments and within other town settings. Each and

every time I am impressed with their maturity, kindness and respect.

I had the privilege of listening to Mr Mark Scott (Secretary of the NSW Department of Education) at a Principal’s

meeting in Armidale earlier in the year and quote him as saying “the days are long, but the years are short.” It’s important to

reflect on this and acknowledge that we can achieve so much in one day if we put our minds to it. We need to focus on the big

things, because the years will pass us quicker than we like. On a more literal note, the days are becoming longer and for the most

part, warmer. I hope some of you got to experience the snow that fell around the region over the past week or so. Hopefully the

upcoming weeks will bring rain, and lots of it. Until then keep learning, enjoy the warmer days and take the time to appreciate

what is important.

Crazy Hair Day

On Thursday 8th August, students matched the crazy winds blowing

throughout the Liverpool Plains with even crazier hair in support of children with

cystic fibrosis. We had hairspray, hair chalk, crimping, spiking and hair building to

name but a few of the masterpieces on show. Thanks to everyone who donated

to this very worthwhile cause.

P and C meeting

We had another good turn up of people for our P and C meeting this term,

which is always pleasing to see. There were many things discussed including contributions by the P and C towards our school, both

in time and finances. Thank you to the amazing team we have that form the Blackville Public School P and C for the tireless work

you put into making sure our children receive the very best. Keep an eye out for many upcoming events that will raise money for

our school. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th September in the main classroom. Everyone is welcome.

The Twits

Thank you to the Quirindi Rotary Club who provided a donation earlier in the year which allowed our ten students to travel

into the Quirindi Royal Theatre on Friday 10th August at no cost to their families. Students loved hearing the always hysterical, but

sometimes gross story of Mr and Mrs Twit, Mugglewump and the Roly Poly bird. Students were treated to puppetry, props and a

world class performance. Thanks to Mr Ireland who allowed us to take part in the Quirindi Public School assembly for Education

week after we headed to the park for a quick lunch and play. Thanks also to Mrs Bell for transporting us safely to and from the

event.

Spelling Bee

On Tuesday of Week 4, approximately 90 students and 70 supporters

from the surrounding small schools travelled to Blackville, to take part in the

annual Small Schools Spelling Bee. Thank you to all those people who

contributed to the day. To the staff from the small schools who assisted on

the day by leading the groups and to Mrs Bell who collated all the emails over

the last few weeks and put them into a very efficient spreadsheet, ensuring

the day ran smoothly. Thanks to our amazing P and C who once again rose to

the challenge of catering for 160 people and accomplished this with

resounding success. Special mention to Phil, George, Krystal and Jess who

ensured everyone left with a full stomach, working like machines in our

kitchen.

Congratulations to Digby (Willow Tree), Alister (Curlewis), Chase (Wallabadah), Patricia (Curlewis) Zac (Willow Tree), Robin

(Spring Ridge) and Latoyah (Willow Tree) on being the Year winners on the day.

Science Week - STEM afternoon

To celebrate Science Week, students swapped places for the day and become leaders of learning as they taught their

parents about the various aspects of STEM they have been learning with Mrs Davis this year. Parent’s eyes were opened to the

amazing world of robotics as they were taught how to operate ozobots, spheros, dash the robot and saw a quick glimpse of how to

create motion through lego and movie making. Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the afternoon and to our

students who did a wonderful job of passing on their knowledge.

Zone Athletics

Congratulations to all our students who are competing in Zone athletics today. We wish you all the very best and know you

will represent yourselves with pride and integrity. A report of the day will be in next fortnights newsletter.

Lake Keepit

Children are already getting excited and talking about the Small Schools Camp coming up in Week 6 at Lake Keepit. It is

always an enjoyable five days, packed with activities that promote responsibility, team work and generally having fun. Please

ensure you label everything that is packed and pack a spare set of clothes and shoes that may become muddy. Thanks to Mrs Davis

who will be attending the camp with our students and Rose and Krystal who will be assisting with transport.
