Parks help to fulfill people’s needs and engage residents’ support for their community. The Blackburn park, although underutilized due to lack of development, is a prime place to make this happen. Our bike park design and funding are geared toward all ages use, and includes a well thought out maintenance and sustainability plan that will offer a clean and comfortable environment for all. This would not be possible without city endorsement and support as well as the leadership and hard work of the long standing BCA, project volunteers and community support.
Parks are a catalyst for enhancing communities and neighborhoods ...... .
In 2016 the BCA was stuggling, but thanks to a swell of new board members, all volunteers, the BCA is here today and eager to support our community. The BCA completed the Interior Enhancement Project due in large part to Northern Inititiaves Trust Recreation Hall Funding Program, and renovated our main hall and lobby area, with new paint, flooring and furnishing to increase rentals to support the operation and maintance of the hall.

Developing the 58m x 26m park space into a Skills Bike Park that is designed for use of all ages, from the strider bikes to more intermediate riders we can help the community and the city reach this goal.
Our goal is directly in line with the recently released Jan 2017, City of Prince George Park Strategy, specifically Page 22.
Goal
Ample square footage Excellent visibility and accessibility Parallels Blackburn Road, main artery of the community Adjacent to community center, Elementary school, and to
other park amenities, such as public restroom facilities maintained by the City of Prince George, also including Existing (4) City light posts around the proposed footprint
Why this space is a prime ocale for a bike park:
The BCA has contacted Jay Hoots of Hoots Inc. who built the
Dutches Park bike park and have received preliminary budget numbers.
We have submitted an application to Yellowhead Rotary for funding and we are looking into other funding options.
The Bca has proven its ability to successfully complete a project of this caliber, based on our long track record of community involvement and continued desire to make Blackburn a great place to live.
The skills park would be a great addition to the current amenities that serve as a hub for the Blackburn Community and surrounding areas, such as Ferndale Tabor Lake area, Pineview, and Shelley (highlighted in yellow).

A Skills park will offer a risk management solution to unauthorized jumps and unsafe riding in our neighborhoods; taking the youth in our community and surrounding areas off of the streets and provide everyone with a safe place to ride
It would provide a free opportunity to educate and increase experience for bike riders, especially children, in safe and managed area.
It would offer our growing community a gathering point for neighbors and members of the community to take part in healthy activity.
The park is already serviced by the City and initial discussions would indicate that city services would be in support of this project.
B n fits
The BCA has consulted with Jay Hoots of Hoots Inc, who developed the Dutches bike park, to discuss the type of park and budget requirements.
The success of this project will be a showcase of community partnerships, volunteerism, support and dedication. The Blackburn Community Association has proven its ability to successfully complete a project of this caliber, based on our long track record of community involvement and continued desire to make Blackburn a great place to live.
Not only will this project be an exercise in community building but community enhancement-the building of this bike park will result in visitors to the Blackburn Park and area. There are possibilities of attracting regional visitors and creating a community sponsored event.
Though this is just the beginning, it represents a plan that has been developed that will eventually end with a fabulous park that will serve the people of Blackburn, Prince George and beyond.

The Community is ready and eager to embark on our next community enhancement.
